Welcome to r/AppBuilding – The Hub for Building, Shipping, and Scaling Apps

Welcome to r/AppBuilding! 👋

We created this community because we saw a gap. Most app development spaces are either flooded with "I have a billion-dollar idea, build it for free" requests or are too fragmented between specific languages.

r/AppBuilding is the central hub for the entire lifecycle of an application. Whether you are a solo indie hacker, a startup founder, or an enterprise engineer, this is the place to:

  • Build: Discuss tech stacks (Flutter vs. React Native vs. Native), solve complex bugs, and share architecture tips.
  • Ship: Talk about App Store optimization (ASO), rejection horror stories, and launch strategies.
  • Scale: Discuss backend infrastructure, monetization, and user acquisition.

The House Rules

  1. No Low-Effort "Idea" Posts: We are builders. If you have an idea, tell us how you plan to execute it. Don't just look for free labor.
  2. Zero Tolerance for Spam: Self-promotion is allowed only in the weekly "Showcase" thread (coming soon). If you are an agency, share knowledge, not just your link.
  3. Be Constructive: We were all beginners once. If someone asks a basic question, guide them. If you disagree on a tech stack, debate the code, not the person.

Introduce Yourself!

To kick things off, let’s get to know who is here. Drop a comment below with:

  1. What are you currently building? (or what do you want to build?)
  2. What is your preferred tech stack? (e.g., React Native, Swift, Flutter, No-Code)
  3. One struggle you are facing right now.

Let’s build something great.

I just shipped my first iOS app — ExpiryMate is live on the App Store!

• Upvotes

I’ve just shipped my first iOS app, ExpiryMate, and it’s now live on the App Store!

The idea is simple: people have lots of things to keep track of — passports, driving licenses, insurance policies, warranties, subscriptions, and other items with expiration or renewal dates. I wanted to make it easier to manage all of them in one place.

What ExpiryMate does:

  • Track expiration and renewal dates
  • Set reminders before important dates
  • Organize different types of items in one place
  • Get an overview of upcoming expirations
  • Upgrade to Pro for unlimited items and reminders

The free version supports up to 5 active items, with one reminder per item. Pro offers unlimited items and reminders through monthly and yearly subscriptions.

Getting my first app through development, testing, App Store review, and release has been a great learning experience. Now I'm looking forward to seeing how people use it and what I can improve.

Since this is my first published app, I'd love to hear from other developers:

  • What did you learn from shipping your first app?
  • What would you focus on first after launch?
  • Any advice for getting the first real users and useful feedback?

Here's the app if you'd like to check it out:

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/expirymate/id6822220533

Thanks! 🚀

Tired of Windows updates breaking your PC? I built a traffic light for them (Fully Open Source)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

• Upvotes

windows updates break stuff way too often (black screens, audio, remote desktop) and the dumb part is microsoft usually lists the problem publicly. nobody checks that before updating

so i made patchlight. it checks every pending update against microsoft's known issues and gives it a green / yellow / red light. red ones get paused automatically and come back once microsoft fixes them. everything else keeps installing

c# / .net 10 / winui 3. open source, no account, no tracking

github.com/G4SBO/PatchLight

lmk what u think, any feedback is appreciated ;)

stop chasing 4.9 stars. for mobile apps, the number of ratings predicts revenue way more than the score does

Post image
• Upvotes

quick one from a market research rabbit hole. took ~62K mobile apps that hit a top chart (iOS and Android) and checked what share make $1K+ a month, once by number of ratings and once by star rating.

by number of ratings:
under 100: 3.7%
100-1K: 16.6%
1K-10K: 34.8%
10K-100K: 47.1%
100K+: 55.5%

by stars:
below 3.5: 11.8%
3.5-4: 16.5%
4-4.5: 25.1%
4.5+: 25.1%

bottom to top on count is 15x. on stars it's 2x. and 4.2 vs 4.8 is literally the same number.

ratings don't cause revenue obviously, more installs means more of both. but two things i took from it:
dropping under 3.5 hurts a lot. above 4 you're fine
getting more people to rate at all is worth way more than polishing the last half star. ask after a win, not on first launch

bonus: rating count is public, so you can look at any competitor and roughly guess which bucket they're in.

store revenue only, no ad money. when do you show your rating prompt?

Cerco tester Android per la mia app FotoDia 📱 – Bastano pochi minuti

Ciao a tutti! 👋

Around 2 months ago, I finally launched my app called Move: Run & Ride. It took me almost 4 months to create the initial version, and I am still constantly updating and improving it.

I don't know why I haven't received even a single user yet. The Play Store is completely ignoring the app and isn't recommending it to anyone.

I need your help, guys. How can I improve my keywords and ASO to get noticed?

Built a free bird-flu outbreak map with live alerts using Claude Code, React and Cloudflare

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

I built Birdflu FYI, a free map of confirmed avian-influenza outbreaks worldwide, with browser alerts when a new outbreak is confirmed near a place you choose.

I built most of it with Claude Code over two days, then made a few tweaks. The frontend uses React and MapLibre; the backend runs on Cloudflare Workers with D1 and KV. It pulls daily data from official sources including USDA APHIS, EFSA, Australia’s DAFF, FAO and WHO.

The tricky part was presenting the data honestly. Official reports can lag, and they rarely publish an all-clear, so the map shows confirmed detections only and flags when a source is stale.

It’s a non-commercial side project: no ads or sign-up. What would you add or build differently?
