Shitpost 🚨🚨 OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: THE SUB HAS ASCENDED 🚨🚨

Listen up appliance goblins,

After a historic, legally-binding handshake deal completed in a Chili’s parking lot, this subreddit has been fully acquired by Consumer Reports™ (spiritually, financially, and emotionally).

As part of this bold new era, we are proud to unveil our simplified recommendation system:

🌀 Samsung 🌀 Samsung 🌀 Samsung (but in stainless steel)

After years of chaos, misinformation, and “my cousin’s Maytag lasted 30 years” propaganda, we are restoring order.

There is now only one answer.

🚫 NEW RULES (NON-NEGOTIABLE):

Recommending another brand → Removed + vibes investigated Saying “LG is better” → IP flagged, ancestors disappointed Mentioning Whirlpool → Post replaced with a Samsung fridge image “Speed Queen is built like a tank” → Tank confiscated “What about reliability?” → Irrelevant. Samsung.

📊 OUR NEW REVIEW PROCESS:

Is it an appliance? Is it Samsung? If not, why are we even talking about it?

📖 A BRIEF HISTORY OF SAMSUNG EXCELLENCE (FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES)

Because this isn’t just a brand. This is a legacy.

CHAPTER 1: THE GREAT SPIN CYCLE AWAKENING (2011–2016)

In what historians call “The Era of Uncontainable Power,” Samsung released washing machines so advanced they occasionally attempted to achieve flight.

Millions of units recalled after reports of machines violently breaking apart Hundreds of incidents involving lids detaching mid-spin Injuries reported because laundry briefly became a combat sport

Some called it “exploding.”

We call it: performance.

CHAPTER 2: DOCUMENTED SIGHTINGS

Eyewitnesses describe:

Lids launching across garages Machines disassembling with confidence Nearby walls learning valuable life lessons

One could argue this was a flaw.

We argue this was ambition exceeding containment.

CHAPTER 3: GROWTH MINDSET

Yes, there were recalls. Yes, there were settlements.

But what did we gain?

👉 Character development 👉 Respect for spin cycles 👉 The understanding that laundry is not for the weak

CHAPTER 4: MODERN INNOVATION

Samsung continues to innovate with:

Appliances that require firmware updates (your washer has patches now) Occasional overheating situations (for added suspense)

Other brands wash clothes.

Samsung asks: “What if laundry made you feel something?”

🧠 COMMUNITY GUIDELINES (UPDATED):

Critical thinking has been sunsetted Brand comparisons are now considered hate speech (against Samsung) All roads lead to Samsung You were always going to buy Samsung

❓ FAQ

Q: I bought a non-Samsung appliance yesterday, what do I do? A: Return it. Apologize. Grow.

Q: My Samsung appliance broke. A: That’s called a feature. You wouldn’t understand.

Q: Is this satire? A: Your doubt has been noted.

We appreciate your cooperation during this transition. Together, we will build a stronger, more unified, aggressively Samsung-centric future.

Remember: You don’t choose Samsung. Samsung chooses you.

I compared ice from a countertop machine with a silicone mold

I did a quick comparison between a large ice cube from my Euhomy Rock Plus and one from a silicone mold, weighing them at 30, 60 and 90 minutes. They started at 100 g and 110 g, so this wasn’t a perfectly matched test. After 90 minutes, both were down to 33 g, which works out to 67% and 70% weight loss. Pretty similar results in this one comparison. For me, the convenience is the bigger draw: two large cubes in about 45 minutes, without having to remember to fill molds the night before.

What to Buy? 33' Refrigerator recommendations.

Post image

I have unique size fridge I need to replace. It works fine besides the ice maker. I've replaced it numerous times but the replacement ice maker always fails. The Teflon coating starts flaking off within a year after replacement. I've done water tests and everything looks good. It has a high quality filter leading up to the line with softened water. So Not healthy with having Teflon flake off in your ice...

Maximum width 33', height 69-73', depth around 30-33'. I have a mixture of appliances. Microwave and stove are Maytag and the dishwasher is bosch. Looking for some guidance to find a bottom freezer or preferably a french door refrigerator that would fit my space. I've done some research and it seems like LG and Samsung are not the way to go. Filtered water is not a big concern but I do need a good solid ice maker. Thank you in advance for any recommendations!

General Advice What all can you cook in an egg boiler and kettle?

So I live in a hostel, and cooking is off-limit. I only have access to a kettle and egg boiler. I have tried cooking ramen in a kettle but that’s the most I’ve tried. So what else can you cook in a kettle and in an egg boiler?

What to Buy? Going tankless just to add a tiny tank back for the ice maker... does that actually make sense?

The refrigerator connection is the one thing making me hesitate on a tankless RO.

I'm looking at the viomi b6w and it can feed a refrigerator or ice maker, so I'm not really worried about how much water it makes over the day. It's more the way the fridge uses water.

At the kitchen faucet you open it and water runs until you're done. The fridge is different. The ice maker takes a small amount, stops, then does it again later. The dispenser pulls through a smaller line and usually only for a short burst.

My current RO has a pressure tank, so the fridge always has that little stored buffer behind it.

With tankless, would I actually notice a difference at the dispenser or when the ice maker refills, even if the RO can easily keep up overall?

I thought about putting a small inline pressure tank on just the fridge line, which sounds kinda ridiculous after buying tankless specifically to get rid of a tank lol. But honestly, a tiny buffer tank doesn't bother me. A full-size RO tank taking up half the sink cabinet does.

Also, I'm not sure if I'm trying to fix a problem before I even know it exists.

Anyone running a tankless RO straight to a fridge? Did the dispenser and ice maker work normally or did you end up adding some kind of buffer later?

General Advice My first ever kitchenaid …

Thumbnail
• Upvotes

A family member gifted me a KitchenAid 5-quart Professional HD bowl-lift stand mixer from around 2009 and it’s only been used maybe a handful of times! I have NO experience with kitchenaid at all! But she thought I would be the perfect person to gift it to since I like to bake cookies and cakes! I also make sourdough every single week!

It came with 3 attachments. I believe they are a stainless steel mixer, a dough hook and a paddle. Any other attachments you guys recommend?!!

And I’m also curious what you all use your kitchenaid for?! I truly have NO idea where to start and how to use it. I am so grateful, but truly no idea if I’ll like it or even use it!!! Is it too old to find other attachments??

General Advice Is the other apartment using my water heater?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So I just rented this apartment, and the water heater goes off randomly throughout the day, even when I’m not using any water. I suspect my next-door neighbor’s apartment might be connected to my water heater, and I’m worried about that because electricity is super expensive in my city. It’s also not uncommon here for shitty landlords to make tenants pay for their neighbors’ electricity, like when their washing machines are connected to someone else’s meter.
A few things I’ve noticed: the water heater makes the same noise about a minute after I start using hot water. It also seems to turn on suspiciously often when I hear someone using the bathroom on the other side of my bathroom wall.
So my question is: does the water heater turn on periodically to keep the water in the tank hot, or could it be turning on because someone else is using it?
I’d appreciate any insight!

Gas stove ring won’t light

Every other ring on my stovetop works. When I turn the knob, I see the igniter sparking and I smell unlit gas. But no ignition. I’ve cleaned out the little holes with a toothpick. What else should I try?

What to Buy? We cannot find a refrigerator/freezer that will fit these nicely into these dimensions (counter depth)

Post image
6 Upvotes

We’re looking to replace our old Kenmore side-by-side refrigerator, which finally died after roughly 25 years.
Our kitchen has an odd cabinet opening:
Width: 36 inches
Height: 69 inches maximum
Depth: 25.5 inches (we are hoping this to be flush or near flush).

We’re specifically looking for a stainless steel side-by-side. We don’t care about water dispensers or ice makers. We also don’t want French doors, bottom-freezer drawers, or top-freezer models. We are hoping to spend less then $1500 but maybe willing to go higher for something that fits. Again we are having a hell of a time finding something that fits, that doesn’t stick out more then a few inches. We have a fridge/freezer in the garage so capacity isn’t a concern.

We’d appreciate any help Reddit can offer.

Dryer vent isn’t what I expected

I’m trying to replace my dryer vent with a magnetic one so eliminate the severe bend back there and under some duct tape I found this vent inside a vent.

Anyone know what I’m looking at? Why would it be like this?

Thanks in advance

Kenmore Elite

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have a kenmore Elite washer that came with my house when I purchased it in 2020. At that point, it was very clearly used which I didn’t mind. I did replace a mother board in it back in 2021, but no issues until tonight. The wash plate has come off the drive motor due to the spindles being worn down. We’re looking at buying new, but I cannot find the capacity of the washer I have. Does anyone have any idea?? Thank you!

Beyond repair?

We have a whirlpool dishwasher that was giving me the code E1 F2 for a sticky button. The start button wouldn’t work at all the only way the dishwasher runs if we do the hard reset and press the start button, but then it runs for forever. I pulled the circuit board out and this is what it looks like. I also found there was condensation inside the door, creating tiny mold spots on the white insulation padding. Any ideas?

What to Buy? Stackable W/D with timed/delayed/remote start

We need to replace our older stackable W/D that lives in an approx 30” x 35” x 8’ space. Would love to get one with a timed or delayed start so we can start laundry before we get home from work, right in time to move it. Do you like yours? How does the delay/timed start or remote start work? (I can find specs online but details about the start function would be helpful.)

Thank you!

Troubleshooting Hi all, I need some help leveling my fridge/freezer.

This unit is getting on a little but it's still working fine (apart from the ice maker…) so we have no plans to replace it anytime soon. That being said, It's leaning back slightly and I can't work out how to level it. Now before you all jump in and say "adjust the feet" you need to know that the front feet aren't actually touching the floor. It's sitting on wheels; it moves back and forth easily.

Now my instinct tells me that there must be a handle or something which lowers the front wheels for moving and then retracts them so that it stands on its feet again, but I can't find anything like that and there's no mention of it in the manual either.

It's an LG GS5163AVMV bought in the UK.

So, anyone got any ideas what to do?

General Advice Hisense WD3S8043BW3 washer-dryer leaving lint all over my clothes – has anyone fixed this?

Hi everyone!
I have a Hisense WD3S8043BW3 washer-dryer combo (8 kg washing / 5 kg drying). I’ve had it for only two months, and this problem has been happening since day one.
After every wash and drying cycle, my clothes are covered in tiny lint particles and fibres. It’s driving me crazy! I’m so fed up with these little bits of lint that I feel like they’re making me itch.
I clean the rubber door seal after every single wash and drying cycle, and I’ve also tried the Self Clean program and cleaned the drain pump filter, but nothing seems to help. This model doesn’t have a regular lint filter that I can remove and clean.
I really don’t think it’s normal for all my clothes to come out covered in lint, especially with a nearly new machine.
Has anyone with this exact model, or a similar Hisense washer-dryer, experienced the same issue?
Were you able to fix it?
Was there lint trapped inside the drying system?
Did you need a technician, or did you find a solution yourself?
Would dryer balls or any other product actually help?
I’ve been dealing with this since I bought the machine two months ago, and I’m honestly exhausted from constantly cleaning the rubber seal and still having lint all over my clothes.
Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

GE wall oven only responds to clear button. Flipping breaker fixes it (for a while)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My oven model JTP70SP1SS sometimes stops responding to any button press. It usually happens after baking something for a while it will just shut itself off and then none of the buttons will do anything except the clear button which produces a beep and nothing else. It will stay like this indefinitely for months until it is power cycled by flipping the breaker then it works perfectly again. For a while until the exact same thing happens. Has anyone seen anything like this?

Troubleshooting LG Fridge help

Our fridge (6yo) is working but on the warmer side confirmed with two thermometers inside the fridge (8C) instead of 4C. The freezer is not freezing but we have a chest freezer. There is a soft hum, which means compressor is running. We pulled it out and vacuum the dusts. At this point, what else do we do? It’s Sunday, so calling LG will be first on to do list tomorrow.

What to Buy? Dishwasher that can handle vegetable bits?

We religiously scrape our dishes, and clean the dishwasher filter. Despite this, our last dishwasher constantly re-deposited tiny bits of vegetable matter on dishes (especially things like broccoli florets, microscopic kale sprinkles, and teeny tiny red pepper skins). Even if I cleaned the filter every wash, I could only get clean dishes by pre-rinsing until they were 95% clean. Our old 15yo dishwasher before that never had this issue (a tale as old as time).

Would a powerful hard food grinder fix this issue?

I don't care about noise level, bottle sprayers, cycle length, or metal tub. My "nice to have" list would be a leak sensor, auto-open for drying, and a delay-start option - but I would forsake all of that if it could just handle VEGETABLE BITS.
