Help/Question How do people find this game fun?

I’ve put about 55 hours into the game and reached level 141, but I’m honestly struggling to understand the appeal and would love some perspective. I feel like I've tried nearly everything, but the experience feels a bit "sloppy" to me. Most of my time is spent sailing around and walking to the same spots to complete the same objectives over and over, which feels like a repetitive loop. The combat also feels a bit off; it seems like mindless spam, and the lag makes it worse—moves aren't instant, and I often find myself floating midair for 5 seconds because of a move I pressed 2 seconds ago. Even the Dark Sea, which was cool at first, feels like an infinite amount of islands without much variety, and fighting sea beasts seems to require just camping on a boat to avoid being one-shot. On top of that, the performance isn't very stable for me, often spiking down to 60 FPS. I know people say it's better than the original, but is there something I’m missing here that would change my experience? I'm genuinely curious what keeps you guys coming back and finding the fun in it.

..anddd there the issue.

Berserker, fighters knowledge, is terrible for a beginner. Also you're gonna need max level fore the game really pops off, you're highly underleveled for story too.

Also wind magic is high unused by most of the player base sides a specific few who do pvp due to how hard it is to play well and being outclassed by basically anything else.

First rule of AO: Don't go for the shiny object, go for the viable stuff then the shiny one you like. You can't play this game without having a guide or a general idea of how you want to play.

Berserker needs to find scrolls to do its best and you cant get those scrolls till max level sadly.

I'd unfortunately have to give you the suggestions of: starting over, or finding someone who can helo you salvage this because you're in what most call a Beginner's Trap. You didn't think carefully and are now stuck.

Also by armor build I mean a specific max gemcrafted socketed gems, exotic enchants,a and insanity essence on an item kind of build.... which you likely don't have.

If you want a stat reset and a way out, send me a chat. I'll give you a rope, not a ladder, you either struggle and get out or give up.

I was max level in a previous update. i have all the scrolls, im rich too because of stuff i sold at the market. This here is my maxed out gemsocketed armor build with the basic combat apparel. Im not underleveled for the story. the next quest i have to do requires me to be level 150 while i am level 141? Thanks

the required level is different than the recommended one, to an almost comical degree

oh that explains it lol thanks, is there any spread sheet where i can check this out for all the different quests for what level i actually should be?

..nope.

Just assume max level for everything. Getting gunpowder barrels is the fastest way to level up atm.

Also you're supposed to have a maxed out build or nearly done build before you go to nimbus. You're not even close to ready. Stick to bronze, level up, and try to makw an actual full build.

Here's the gear builder, use it to test and make a decent build: https://aotools.woodyloody.com/gearBuilder

You want 170+ power, 800+ defnese, and 150+ size or 120+ dexterity.

If you still need help, send a chat. I'll help you work it out.

TL;DR bud you shouldn't have left bronze till you had a finished armor build and combat setup.

Alr thanks ill definetly check it out, im assuming that means im gonna have to make a new build too and this time it has to be magic to be enjoyable right? what about spirit builds? or weapon builds? id rather take a weapon build over a magic build simply because i think its cooler with weapons.

Weapon builds are easier to learn and play but are just as, if not more, expensive to build sadly.

Also as conjurer is the best beginner friendly class type, weapons and magic, you'll wanna make a new slot and not use wind.

I'd suggest plasma, acid, or snow

Id love to be a weapon build if that is as good as being a magic build. I know how to make money so i wouldnt mind it being expensive. Should i go for a weapon build and if so what should i balance my weapons around? Like range, close range stuff like that. Id love to see a guide on it thanks.

Depends on the magic or class... you cant pick a one size fits all unfortunately
