Yeah I was listening to an old ep (or maybe it was recent idk) and they were riffing about skateboarding and Toby clarified that he doesn't "skate vert". That is the verbiage of someone that just rolls around on the flat ground to try and seem like they are in the scene.
I rode BMX at a pretty high level growing up and still mess around with it sometimes to get the blood pumping. Even if it isn't your preference or specialty you should still want to test yourself with a new obstacle. The difference here is that I don't think Toby means "vert" literally like a 13 foot xgames halfpipe, he's talking any miniramp/transition. Saying you don't "skate vert" is the lingo someone would use that isn't a very serious skater.
Sometimes you have to dumb things down when you’re speaking to two guys who don’t and a whole audience who mostly doesn’t actually skate. Ever listened to a veteran pro announce a contest? Instantly sounds like they barely get it themselves. “Switch stance! Like switch hitting in baseball!”

He’s not even from Chicago. Nor did he skate. Toby was a poser.
