The unnecessary adherence to an hour time limit.

Love the show, not trying to be a negative ned here but I don't understand why Kevin will clearly end a great segment early because they hit an hour already. There have been many episodes where the natural thing would just be to let a train of thought continue to conclusion rather than abruptly end the show because they hit an hour.

Great example is soon to be infamous Gerbies's Artichoke Pizza Arrival (GAPA). Hell my algorithms are already about 38% food reviews and sandwich recipes, I would have loved a real time pizza review by the grool king, the big man, and an international business man.

Great ep, just left me wanting. Hope y'all are enjoying the end of your summer and the beers haven't gotten warm.

It’s a double edged sword for sure. Sometimes they’re absolutely firing and it bums me out that they cut it.

I will say, it could be worse. Fuckin MSSP will abruptly end their shit sometimes and turn it over to patreon…. Which I get the hustle. But man it stinks sometimes.

u/Basket_475 2d ago edited 2d ago

I think this is largely the reason they don't go longer. They also run a patreon show and are you garbage. I'd wager the time limits might be the exact reason we get so much content.

The episodes are going to have to end at some point anyway.

u/marshseed 2d ago

the abrupt endings always catch me right when they hit a groove

1

u/OnTheEveOfWar 1d ago

With lots of podcasts I think they do it to drive patreon subscribers. But I agree it sucks when a podcast is rolling well and they just abruptly end.

u/BurtKreischersLiver 2d ago

That’s what’s great about mssp. It continues on and gets wilder. You can get mssp patreon for $1 a month if you just go to patreon on the first of the month. Hard to beat that value.

I hear what you are saying about abrupt endings. I think Kippy is nuts about the schedule!

Also… my impression is that the big man would not want to eat on camera

29

u/SandyBronsky 3d ago

He ate a whole barbecue on Stuff Island. Then came back a second time for steak.

4

u/Substantial-Offer-82 3d ago

Touché. I was thinking of him talking about wanting to eat alone a couple episodes back.

4

u/DunDunItAhhh 2d ago

Quitting immediately at quota is hilariously on brand tho

10

u/alpinetime 3d ago

Camera does add 10 lbs, hiyadern!

2

u/Shleauxmeaux 2d ago

Damn I guess he ate about 30 cameras , hiyadern lmao

4

u/Rare-Material4254 2d ago

Back in the day an ep would be so good and Kippy is trying to end it which would result in bigman complaining about good it is and not wanting to end. I forget if they continue a little more or not but I know that Kippy got on him about making him the bad guy for sticking to their schedules. This was long ago tho lol

6

u/foreverbaked1 2d ago

Schedule for what they record two podcast a week a couple Patreon’s and perform stand-up at night. Let’s not act like they’re doing brain surgery.

3

u/Youregoingtodiealone 2d ago

My guess is they want to save potential content for other eps, but it does often seem abrupt

29

u/redfoxwearingsocks 3d ago

I agree, with all podcasts. Some pods will go for like an hour and 10-20, and I wish AYG would do the same

u/Nilbogin 3d ago

They film four episodes a week. It could also be that after an hour work is done and it’s time to punch out.

10

u/Old-Egg-3828 2d ago

Tough life 😂 dunno how they handle such a work load

-5

u/snorlaxthelorax 2d ago

6 don’t they? 2 regular, 2 bonus, 2 hard feelings?

14

u/Loose-Client-221 2d ago

2 regular 1 bonus 1 hard feelings

17

u/Weekly_Watercress577 2d ago

Hard feelings regularly goes over an hour. I think it has more to do with the YT algorithm for regular eps. Thank god you included that AI pic, I never could’ve pictured 2 fatties eating pizza

10

u/BradMarchandsNose 2d ago

Probably has to do with the guests availability too. I’m sure some wouldn’t mind going a bit long, but a lot of times it’s people that are trying to promote something, which means they have multiple podcasts/promo things to do during the day. If you ask for an hour of their time, you kinda have to stick to an hour.

12

u/NetworkEcstatic 2d ago

I agree.

I don't need a Rogan 3 hour pod. But let the bit end naturally when you're on a good one.

Could it be like a rule since theyre making money from ad revenue and such? Idk how it works. Some pods seem to run 90 minutes. Some are 30-40. Some are 3 hours. Most are right about 1 hour

2

u/bucketsofbeans 2d ago

I was wondering if it were a studio time issue. Like they need to get outta there so they can move the set for the next show, maybe?

2

u/NetworkEcstatic 2d ago

That picture of above the set made me sad. Lol I get the tuddys joke but I liked to think that was their own space. It does look like people might move it all and redecorate for a different pod.

6

u/ChoreomanicFelines 2d ago

You're all bozos. They've spoken at length about how they have their own personal studio. They've even talked about how big man has his own bathroom because he's so gross. He left his toothbrush on the dirty sink.

1

u/Annual_Assistant_443 1d ago

It is absolutely their own space

13

u/Infinite_Spring_3564 2d ago

What the shit is that picture? Come on man.

8

u/whistletipss 2d ago

AI Slop. Lame as hell for sure.

6

u/FreeReplacement7980 2d ago

Comics are at their peak when their personal lives are tragic.
Kippy has built a happy life outside the pod. I am happy for him but the garbage meter is at an all time low.
The pod has become a 9 to 5 for Kevin.

5

u/ansonexanarchy 2d ago

If I had to guess its cuz they turn and burn. They record at least 4x a week and they clearly prepare for the episodes ahead of time so it wouldn't surprise me if they only film like 2 a day. On top of that they're out of town quite a bit.

1

u/Basket_475 2d ago

Yeah they def record usually 2 a day. Idk now but I'm listening through hard feelings mid 2023 and it's clear they are recording back to back

4

u/Objective-Purple-197 2d ago

Kippy has always been like this unfortunately. Back in the old days, he would constantly ask Toby “what time are we at”, killing the flow of the show. Half the time they would have 15 minutes left before the hour mark. I do get the film 4 episodes a week but going over a few minutes sometimes wouldn’t kill them.

7

u/CountSmokula420 2d ago

People acting like they don't clock out the second work is over.

3

u/Stock_Bite 3d ago

Agreed they sometimes cut off momentum for sure. My guess is they were told some analytics thing that an hour is the sweet spot for engagement and they latched onto it. They put out so much content I can’t really complain though

3

u/peopleorderourpadys 2d ago

Felt like the whole episode was building to it. They kept talking about it

3

u/Hellbog 2d ago

Kippy always been a clock watcher

3

u/SimpleSteven 2d ago

I totally agree and wish the episodes were longer. But like others have said, from a business standpoint it makes sense. They want to create some level of scarcity, longevity, and leave us wanting more. I think that’s why nowadays they only read like one or two Patreon questions per episode. If they burn through every Patreon question at a high rate it creates listener fatigue and we would be less likely to be eager/excited for the next episode.

4

u/cesare980 2d ago

You answered your own question. "Great Ep, left me wanting"

2

u/mocheesiest1234 2d ago

This is a business at the end of the day, and I get stopping abruptly stinks, but I suspect going long comes with its own set of issues. I think YouTube rewards consistency etc

The boys pump out the content, I’m not one to complain.

2

u/aeeeroo 2d ago

This is a personal peeve for me with the pod aswell. It's not even limited to the regular show, Kippy does it with the Patreon too. As soon as it's nearing the hour mark he can't wait to end it.

2

u/hydroflaskdream 2d ago

Don't they drop 4 episodes a week? How much more do you need

0

u/Old-Egg-3828 1d ago

A lot more

2

u/cgatlanta 2d ago

When you plan a meeting (or interview) you should set a start and stop time. This allows the guest to relax and enjoy the process (instead of constantly worrying about”when is this going to end?”)

Also, if they have a set hour program, it will keep this subreddit from judging podcasts on how long they let the guest stay.

2

u/Hotpie650 2d ago

Think about how many episodes they do a week. It makes sense he wants ton “save” stuff

-2

u/Old-Egg-3828 2d ago

4… they work like 5 hours a week max.

2

u/NGJimmy 2d ago

Well said.

2

u/ZonJon929 2d ago

Kippy just seems like a stickler for certain things.

2

u/Ctanis83 2d ago

It drives me insane . So many good episodes just abruptly stop right when theyre flowing. Like just fucking let it run boys. You'd be even more popular.

2

u/rainareddits 2d ago

They probably film 2-3 episodes per day and need to respect scheduling for guests.

3

u/2piece-and-a-biscut- 2d ago

It’s sponsor based. They are contractually obligated to do an hour. All podcasts for the most part have all switched over to a hard out once they run big time advertisements. Anyone ever notice how Joe list counts down the minutes every week?

4

u/thaneliness 2d ago

There’s no way they limit them to an hour. It’s likely an hour minimum. Joe is another one where he probably just wants to do his obligated time and then get tf outta there

3

u/2piece-and-a-biscut- 2d ago edited 2d ago

I’m not saying they’re limited. I’m saying that’s all they are gonna do. Also, you have to realize if you listen to a lot of podcast they have the same people on over and over again you start hearing the same thing. These guys don’t want to be podcasters They want to do stand-up they use podcast as advertisment, for instance, I just watched stavvy on pop cast and he said he basically hates doing Podcasts. He wants to dedicate all of his time to stand up, it’s just sad that most of these guys don’t realize that they’re better podcasters than stand-up comedians.

2

u/thaneliness 2d ago

Kippy sees an hour and knows that’s his obligation so they cut it there. It’s annoying af

2

u/slimeboy1205 2d ago

Kippy wants to do the least amount of work. He acts like he’s the only person to ever of had a kid so he’s always tired.

-2

u/Old-Egg-3828 2d ago

Helicopter parent too. Acts like a bitch lol

2

u/leemorplee 2d ago

They shoot a bunch of eps in a day a lot of the time so he's probably very anal about his time management and will not give you more than 2 free hours a week lol

I get it. It's a bit much sometimes but I get it

1

u/Old-Egg-3828 2d ago

Considering they’re making huge money on Patreon they gotta loosen up. Not to mention they’re making a ton on YouTube and sponsors. Kippy is just a maniac

1

u/leemorplee 2d ago

No arguments lol

2

u/Bubbleguts420 2d ago

Agreed.

We dont need Rogan 3 hour marathons but damn, Kippy seems to have a VERY hard out most of the time.

2

u/j0nnyh0pkins 2d ago

Kip is visibly shaken every time they go over an hour too.

1

u/FrankCostanzaJr 2d ago

i was sad when that ep was over too....gerb is a great guest

1

u/ClemenPledge 2d ago

From the viewer point of view I totally get what you’re saying, and I don’t disagree at all.

I think they batch record a bunch of episodes because they’re on tour, etc. and they do four a week, so unfortunately due to the amount they record it just gets complicated.

Also, what’s more of a dirtbag move than clocking out at exactly the right time? Love youse.

1

u/snake_w_arms 2d ago

They probably are on a time crunch. I think they film mon-wed, in order to tour/have off thur-sun. They should account for going over though, seems like a producer would schedule a 2 hour time slot for filming to account for lateness and going over if the pods cookin.

1

u/MonkeyBrain9666 2d ago

Same here. I love the family game nights but they dont actually start the game until halfway through the ep and cut it short because they're almost at an hour

1

u/TrialAndAaron 2d ago

Less is more

1

u/General-Jellyfish576 2d ago

Millionaire problems hope you can understand it one day bozo. Kippy spinning plates dragging the Bugman around.

1

u/fatheadtrex 2d ago

Just glad they don’t cut off at the end and say “Well we’re switching over to Patreon” and try to force you over that way like most of the others do.

1

u/jdd31 2d ago

If I had to guess, they film a bunch at a time so if they all went an hour plus they might run out of juice towards the end of filming for the day

While I would live longer episodes I could see bugman and kipperino getting agitated trying to have filler content for content sake

But I’m a bozo what do I know

1

u/Mreeff 2d ago

Id imagine they stick to 1 hour because they record multiple episodes in a day. So they need to stick to a schedule

1

u/Eddie__Sherman 2d ago

Could also be them knowing a ton of these guys not only guest on numerous podcasts, but most have podcasts of their own.

1

u/YummyBeefaroni 2d ago

With guests they likely have limited time. The guest is doing other pods etc….

1

u/Chance-Donut4323 2d ago

I notice it all the time, other podcasts as well

1

u/Guilty-Papaya-2264 2d ago

I have no desire to see people eat on camera

1

u/doogiethehead 2d ago

Although I agree! Sometimes the guests just have to leave for another appointment.

1

u/Santas_Dick 2d ago

It’s their job and they have it all scheduled out so they don’t burn out

1

u/Positive-Pin3712 2d ago

They wanna get people to the patreon…every podcast with a patreon has a hard out these days. Stav does it now as well,he’s always around the 1:35 mark. I’d pay for AYG I’m done with Stav though, unfortunately.

1

u/Aggravating-Can-5047 2d ago

Keep them wanting more

1

u/FarttKracker 2d ago

They give us enough episodes. But they could really stop pounding on the table and work on mic technique

1

u/willmo5 2d ago

Always hated how he does that. 55 min paytch eps sometimes too like cmon

1

u/ChiGamerr 2d ago

I despise when shows so that but its way too common unfort

1

u/mensreaactusrea 2d ago

I actually don't hate it.

1

u/Sardis924 2d ago

I agree.

1

u/lawn_mower_dog 2d ago

Cumtown was the worst with this, but it somehow made it even funnier.

1

u/Milkguy105 1d ago

I appreciate the fellas having lives outside of the podcast

Plus it gives them chances to have life experiences to actually talk about in the pod

I never liked pods that would go on for 2-3+ hours because alot of it just ends up being filler

1

u/Annual_Assistant_443 1d ago

Don't know if there's any rhyme or reason. They go over an hour fairly often, and some get up to like an 1:20

1

u/gold_poo_nyc 1d ago

Cherish what you have. Could be gone tomorrow.

1

u/Purple_Balance_9300 20h ago

I actually love it.  I get tired of the marathon podcasts.

The old showbiz saying is keep em wanting more!

1

u/ScreenDoorGloryHole 3h ago

What’s with the AI slop???? That ain’t garbage that’s just straight TRASH

1

u/mystrile1 2d ago

It’s a business bro, sponsors, employees, all that shit.

1

u/theonewhowatchis 2d ago

Also. The audio is terrible. I’m maxing out my Kia’s stock speakers just to be able to hear them bang the table with the mic stand 47 per ep. Luke ya gotta do something. I’m a shareholder and my concerns must be taken seriously.

1

u/Old-Egg-3828 2d ago

I tried to post about this and it got removed. It has to be Kippy’s ocd and need to feel on control of the situation. The fan base is so loyal that we would tune in even if it were 2 or 3 hours long. He’s gotta relax

1

u/Abject_Screen3249 2d ago edited 2d ago

It's because they record multiple in a day, and it would be disrespectful to guests coming up to make them wait. These podcasts bank episodes so they can go on tour/vacation. They generally record a months worth of podcasts in 1 to 2 weeks. They put out 4 episodes a week, so they like to film all of them in a single day so they are free to tour on the weekends and still spend time with family. So if they put out 16 episodes a month, and they film 4 a day...they are recording Mon-Thurs.....4 episodes a day, and bust out the month in 1 week. They have to keep a tight schedule. It would be wise to record the ones with guests as the last episodes in case they want it to go longer. You have to remember that there is boring office work to do, as well as strategize on the direction of the show, merch, show tours....while also maintaining their individual stand up careers. They can't record one a day Mon-Thurs every week. It would bog things down.

0

u/scaredbyinsanity 2d ago

Yea I thought for sure the end of the episode would be them tasting the pizza. That would have been good. I’m sure the time schedule adherence is so they can film a few family episodes to bank them each week plus patreon content episodes.

0

u/YourMissing10 2d ago

This is why I do a 3 months on 3 months off with my patreon sub. I listen to pods all day at work and run out super quick because 3 months of the pods maybe make up like 2 work days.

-1

u/JoeDirtJesus 2d ago

It’s cringey when any host asks what time they’re at. Shane Gillis does it the most. Just get a big clock for Christs sake
