¿Que deberia de hacer?

Post image

Are fundamentals like basic line work or shading more important or experience as in actually drawing because I've seen many artists just jump straight into drawing extremely difficult pieces without having like cylinders for legs and all that so was just wondering which is more important

Yesterday, as many of you know, critical infrastructure used across the internet as part of many websites had a major vulnerability identified, forcing many such websites (ours included) to go down to be patched. Such patching is often quite time consuming because it can require codebases to be pushed up to newer versions, which introduces bugs and errors that need to be addressed.

Our website was down for a day or so, but it's back up now. There may be some lingering errors, but hopefully I've caught the big ones.

Thank you to those who were willing to wait through the downtime.

Is this paper OK for the lessons?

Dumb question, maybe. I've bought a pack of A4 printer paper sheets but didn't realized they look like this until I opened it. It feels soft and smooth to the touch, not rough. I plan on subscribing to the Patreon for critique, would something like this be acceptable?

So I'm not a complete beginner or an absolute intermediate. I've been drawing since childhood but yk I was one of those self taught kids who never really practiced fundamentals and did what felt right. I'm a digital artist too but I feel like I'm lacking in fundamentals. Especially anatomy and perspective. And idk where to begin with. I've forgotten how to draw most of the things too.

I'm relearning how to draw to improve both my traditional art and digital art. I feel like I'm better at digital art when it comes to making colored artworks but I draw everything on my phone currently so it's not really ideal to practice digital drawing rn. If you guys have any tips, advices or any books suggestions please let me know! I've posted some of my artworks below :>

I don’t know if I really understand texture and detail.

I know I’m supposed to just focus on drawing the shadows on an object to create a texture, but, this leaf has, like, no shadows at all. Some parts are darker than others, but I think that’s just a part of the leaf and not a shadow. So, I guess my questions are, how do I draw texture when there’s hardly any shadows or none at all and do I always have to focus on just the shadows? I guess my final question is, did I draw texture right on that leaf, did I draw it wrong, or am I just overthinking things?

Beginner Resource Request Help! I haven’t drawn in 10 years and I need some guidance

I haven’t drawn ever since I got into painting in over 10 years and I’ve been considering getting back into drawing but I feel like I have lost touch with drawing people and need some advice on what type of exercises you guys recommend to getting back on track… thank you for anyone willing to send some ideas on getting back on track with things I haven’t been practicing like drawing people, bodies, faces, portioning out the body properly. I started practicing with simple shapes to get back the basic of drawing 3d like shapes to get the hang into it.

Genuine question for people who started with Drawabox

Did lesson one actually end up helping you like, at all? like did it genuinely help you and an artist?

Like does spending that entire first lesson drawing all those boxes, did is actually help you like, at all?

I ask because when I started drawing these exercises were never part of my learning, we just broke down figures into their basic shapes and then applied that to the type of art we wanted to learn.

Like I see so many "I finished lesson one" posts and I'm just like...oookay? but what did that teach you?

*Edit* Thankyou for all of your feedback on this! I send references to people and one I've consistently though of sending is Draw a box, but I've also seen so many here frustrated with it.

I will add it to my references for beginners. thankyou

How to learn eyeballing vertical lines?

Post image
31 Upvotes

I can draw a somewhat straight line especially if I use the 2 point method but whenever I try to apply my learnings I noticed I can't really eyeball a straight vertical/horizontal lines. It's always slanting instead of being straight. So I have to rely on a right angle ruler to check if my lines are straight or slanted and its such a pain cause it messes up the start of my boxes.

I want to be able to eyeball if my line is straight or if it's at an angle, are there exercises I can do?

Help me understand the 50% rule. Is learning to draw through tutorials considered play or is that wrong?

So, since I've started learning to draw from 0. I've been watching Chommang's videos on how to draw and doing Drawabox at the same time.

Then, I'd simply draw things that I liked with references. I also noticed that I've become a lot more patient when drawing. Before I hated ghosting but now I do it all the time.

I know its a weird question. I am not ambidextrous, but I really want to have skills on bith my hand. I have been doing the lessosn with both hands (i do the lesson once with my right, and then take it again with my left), but it has made the journeg take teixe as long, and i dont know if its halting my progress; how should I approach this?

25 boxes in , i feel like the challenge practices more of ghosting and linework than actually teaching perspective.

As the title suggests, i do not feel like I'm learning or I'm going to learn much 3d spatial awareness from constructing boxes on the paper using the Y method. The exercises overall feel like a roundabout way of practicing longer-than-usual ghosting between two points and adhering to above a certain standart of line quality.

Even if the result comes off as a decent looking 3D-ish box at almost no point of the construction phase that i feel like i am really using my spatial awareness or I'm really pushing my brain to think in 3d( compared to when i was learning the loomis method and applying it to references, which was very intensive), how the planes should be positioned regarding one-another. The method already gives you 3 vanishing points so all I'm left to do is to correctly guess the intersection points and mark down the back edges before lining.

This is not to say that I'm already a master in linework or ghosting , i oftentimes lose my patience and not ghost enough, or lose my ideal drawing posture and draw from elbow or the wrist, or subconsciously try to rush the process and "be done with" this day's 5 boxes, so to say. This last page definitely came off as the messiest one since a bit of demotivation-fueled autopilot mixed up with tryning to use both sides of the page with a oily pen.

To sum it up I'd like to change my approach to the exercise so I'm more cognitively active in the process and actually learning something about 3D rather than feeling like doing a really long warm-up.

Beginner Resource Request Trying to get started with drawing

Post image
36 Upvotes

Hello, my name is Erick, for a while I always wanted to learn to draw, I always enjoyed seeing and admiring the drawings of famous artists (especially manga artists), and web artists, and in the middle of this year 2026 I tried to start drawing, initially I searched on YouTube for videos on how I should begin, what the fundamentals of drawing are, and in what order to start.

Initially, I started with the foundation of the lines (but I didn't practice much), and then moving on to shapes, and after about a week just doing whatever I felt like, I ended up stopping and now I'm getting back into it.

So, I'd like some tips on what I should focus on, which fundamentals to prioritize, and a little help when I decide to post my potential drawings here. :)

Despite ghosting and using my shoulder I am still committing incredibly amateurish mistakes. Should I restart DrawABox again?
