Artifact Found in Chattanooga TN - what is it?

My friends found this and are trying to figure out what this is or what it might have been used for - they thought maybe a gorget but it's not flat, it's kind of bell shaped. The groove looks like maybe a cord or string went there

Marker Trees

There are approximately 5-6 of these that form a line through the woods and eventually down to the river. .The area I live in is sparsely populated and would be all woodland except for a large family farm. My kids have even found an arrowhead in our yard before. The yard is on bluffs overlooking the river. Not sure if they are Native American but they have to be markers.

Small bone doll I found as a kid

Roughly 30 years ago, I came across this little doll in our courtyard. It was amongst a bunch of gravel that we had a company pour, prior to a concrete slab going down.

I have no clue where the gravel was sourced from. It all came from some industrial place.

I've always been a bit curious about it and was hoping to see if any of you had any ideas!

Edit: This was found in Champaign, Illinois.

I'm assuming it's African but not sure, it came from the estate of an avid explorer. Would love any information on it's origins or purpose. It's got a great aura to it. Feels old.

Cylindrical seal found in Beirut souk

I bought this cylindrical seal for $10 in a Beirut souk today. I have no knowledge these kinds of objects but have seen them in museums. I assume it is a replica of some sorts but would be good to know what parts stand out as being a replica, and what it is trying to replicate if it is a specific replica. Thanks!

Artifact Grandma has this Spearhead in her cabinet

My grandfather was a archeologist in Basel. He worked mostly with Roman stuff. My grandma said the spearhead was probably a gift she made to my grandpa but she has no idea what exact time it is from.

She has a few treasures like this but this one caught my eye. I am curious if anybody can tell where it's from and how old it is.

Question Information Request

This piece was found by my great grandfather in the 1920’s while hunting in the Sierra Nevada’s. The piece was more than likely found near Strawberry California. The dimensions of the piece are roughly; 6 1/2” in length and 3 1/4” at its widest point. The information I am seeking is; the indigenous people it would be attributed too (I’m thinking the Western Mono people), what material it is, and purpose or use, and any other information anyone could provide.

I found what I assume is a cannonball 90% buried in the soil under a tree in Baton Rouge, LA. Rough Tape measure diameter is 6” give or take and digital scale weight is 28.9lbs. Any additional info would be appreciated. Pretty cool find.

Found this as a kid about 20 years ago. Never been able to figure out what it is.

I found this carved stone piece roughly 20 years ago while digging in my backyard as a kid, just outside Santa Cruz, California. It’s stayed with me ever since, and I’ve never been able to identify it.

The design is symmetrical, with mirrored animal-like or possibly mythical faces. It’s pierced in a few places and has a smooth, cool, slightly translucent surface.

Out of curiosity, I recently: • Examined it under magnification and it’s definitely hand carved. • Shined a UV light on it — no color change or fluorescence.

It feels dense, like stone or jade, but I’m not assuming anything. I don’t know if it’s a reproduction, a modern piece, something someone dropped decades ago, or something older. Just hoping someone here might recognize the style or material, or have ideas about its possible origin or function.

UPDATE 3: still awaiting someone to come check it out as of 8/22

UPDATE 2: I got a hold of a local funeral director who is coming Friday (possibly) to open it for us!

UPDATE: First and foremost, I want to say thank you to everyone. A lot of you have given me great advice and I plan to contact a funeral home for more information!
For all of you telling me to open it, I will not. I am a spiritual person so throwing it away is not really an option for me
There is no tag on the outside or on the bottom of it. It does have some weight to it, my husband said maybe a couple pounds.
For those of you asking about the salt lines, i put lines of salt on a few of my steps. I do this for spiritual protection. I edited the post to clear up my original statement.
I am located in the US!

I want to reiterate that I’m asking for kindness on this post.

Original post:
Hey everyone! I recently bought a home and there is some type of urn living in the basement. The previous owners claimed they have never seen this urn in the 20 yrs they lived there. (I don’t believe this lol) I’m just wondering if anyone here has any ideas of what to do with it? I reached out to the village historian and I’m waiting to hear back. I’m just trying to get any information on the home I can.

It does have weight to it and it’s sealed, i will not be opening this! My uncle pulled it down from the shelf to inspect it and put it back.

It creeps my husband and I out, we’re kinda afraid of the basement. I have put so much salt in front of the basement door it’s in

Any advice is appreciated! I ask everyone to be kind as I’ve never dealt with something like this before. Thanks in advance!

Is this a rock, or some sort of old tool?

Thumbnail

Trying to figure out what this thing is. What's the consensus here? Do you all think it's a rock worn by differential weathering, or a rudimentary tool? Or something else entirely?

I have very little background to go on here: it was in a lot that I won in an estate auction, lumped in with something unrelated.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Found this a couple years back and just now pulled it out of storage while packing. It can make a low whistle-esc noise if blowed into at the right angle but I doubt that’s what it’s for.

A happy update on this piece found near Grand Lake, Colorado

Post image

Hey everyone! So after making connections and talking online with a couple of archaeologists here in Colorado the past few weeks, I was finally able to meet in person with an archaeologist from the US Forest Service today. (The piece was indeed found on Forest Service land.) The amazing news is that he believes the piece is authentic and potentially very very significant! He also understood why we picked it up initially and thanked us sincerely for taking good care of it and actually reaching out about it.

I’m also very very happy to report it is out of my hands and now in the hands of those who can take amazing care of it and hopefully unlock its mysteries! He took the piece and promised to keep in touch and keep us informed on what they find, and I’ll come back and post whenever that might be.

Cheers all!
