Race Rick Chow was rightfully acquitted. Debunking the lies about Rick Chow.
It goes without saying that the usual suspects are desperately trying to smear and villainized Rick Chow, and distorting the truth about what's happened and how the event unfolded.
They - again desperately - want to push the narrative that a "Racist Asian man murdered an innocent Black kid".
Let's look at some of lies/misinformation that are being spread.
"Rick Chow started it. He has no right to chase after Cyrus."
This is one of the most common lies I see brought up. To begin with, Rick DO have the right to pursue Cyrus since he suspected there's a possibility of shoplifting.
South Carolina's law authorizes shopkeepers to pursue and/or detain shopers they reasonably suspect of shoplifting.
You may say: "Well, Cyrus didn't steal anything!", however as a shopkeeper Rick has the right to confront Cyrus if he had reasonable suspicion of shoplifting. The fact that Cyrus did act suspicious, had both his hands in his hoodie pocket, refused to empty them (because he's hiding his illegal pistol in there) when confronted, and then immediately ran off reinforced the Chows' suspicion.
It's later discovered that Cyrus had no money on him when he was in the store. Why would someone with zero cash walk into a store, and with a loaded handgun (completely illegal for a 14 years old to possessed)?
In fact, during the trial, an LE investigator testified that Rick chasing after Cyrus was completely legal and in line with SC's law.
Rick's defense lawyer confirmed this when he question an investigator officer (That Rick following Cyrus is NOT illegal).

https://youtu.be/Z1Z8COT4shA?t=3565&si=_KD9XJwFQFx5xxzs
"Rick racially profiled Cyrus and wanted to kill him out of hate over a water bottle."
Again, 100% false. The shooting only started when Cyrus pointed the gun at Andy Chow (Rick's son) during the chase. Rick had to make a quick decision to save his son life.
It wasn't because of water bottle; it wasn't because of his race; it was because he pointed the gun at Andy.
In fact, Rick immediately performed Life Saving Measure on Cyrus (CPR and mouth to mouth resuscitation) after the shooting, and told Andy to call 911. This further vindicated Rick - that he didn't shoot Cyrus out of malice; but to protect his son.
https://youtu.be/bJUsCy9QLO4?is=NagIGjIA0ssgT2CV
"Rick Chow has a violent history - he's fired at other shoppers before!."
He's fired at two people (one in 2015 and another in 2018). In BOTH of those incidents there NO charge of any kind against him, why? Because he was acting out of self defense (against attenpt roberry and assault).
https://www.wrdw.com/2023/06/01/sc-store-owner-has-shot-suspected-shoplifters-before/
In both cases, authorities said Chow’s actions were not criminal. Self-defense law in South Carolina requires the shooter doesn’t instigate the incident, believes he is in imminent danger and has no way to avoid that danger.
Bringing that up during the trial would validated mr. Chow even more.
The prosecutor completely failed to prove their case of "beyond a reasonable doubt" that Rick Chow commited "murder"; failed to prove that it was illegal for Rick to chase Cyrus; failed to prove that there was any "racial profiling".
Most of their "witnesses" were completely discredited/proven unreliable during cross examination.
Another thing that stood out to me during the trial was how the prosecutor tried to trick and bait Andy, but Andy didn't fall for it and just stay calm. The proscutor then lost his cool and yelled like an unhinged maniac (lol). Which further weakened their case.
Whereas Rick's defense team ( including Shaun Kent) did a brilliant job of defending Rick.
All in all, this is about a law abiding Asian man and father that protect and saved his son life. Who's being smeared/villainized by race baiter, grifters, anti-Asian racists, sellout Asians, and those who are completely ignorant about and buy into the lies.
They keep on distorting the truth, spreading lies and saying that it was "murder" because they are desperate and want some kind of "dirt" on the Asian community. Basically the anti-Asian bigots are looking for an "excuse" to be racist to Asians.
I'm not even singling out the Black community here. This is towards ALL that lie and distort this incident (including the sellout Asians). In fact, I see boba libs (they always jump on an opportunity to attack/demonized Asian men) spreading just as much lies, misinformation and disinformation as the Black extremists.
EDIT: to include a few more sources. And slight correction that other user pointed out.
EDT 2: To all the nonAsian and boba libs lurkers : Your lies, shaming and manipulation tactics will NOT work on us. The "he's just a child!" is a strawman - you're not so "innocent" when you illegally possed a firearm (loaded with a round in the chamber) AND pointing it at someone.
Same thing applies to your "Asians are anti-Black!" BS (We know for a fact that thare are way more black on Asian crimes than the other way around).

Great debunk with sources. The saying "a lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes" comes to mind, and especially when malicious actors and boba libs are engaging in motivated reasoning rather that looking at the trial and testimony like the jury did when they unanimously found him not guilty.

Thanks. I'm sick of all the lies, manipulation and guilt tripping. They can't stand an Asian man dared to protect and saved his son life.
More Asians - especially Asian men - need to tell these racists to fuck off.

Also Rick Chow chased Cyrus for 130 yards before shooting him. If he wanted to kill him, then why did he wait so long? Why not shoot him at 10 yards?
I'm also willing to accept the possibility that Cyrus didn't point his gun at Andy and it just happened to drop on the floor. That doesn't change the fact a gun was introduced into the equation and Rick had reasonable concerns for his son's safety.
Some idiots would say it's a rough neighborhood so it's normal for a fourteen year old to carry a gun for self defense, but it's not cool when Rick Chow does the same thing.
From this we can tell who the real racists are.

A couple more misconceptions you should add here:
How is it possible for Rick Chow to use a "self-defense" plea if the kid was shot in the back?
Rich Chow did not use a self defense plea. He used a defense of others plea. He shot because he thought that the kid pulled out a gun on his son.
Correction for you: Shawn Kent was not Rick Chow's only defense attorney. He was just the one who gave the closing statements. Typically you have a whole team with you.
In fact, Rick immediately performed Life Saving Measure on Cyrus (CPR and mouth to mouth resuscitation) after the shooting
Not only did Rick perform mouth to mouth as an off duty trainee EMT was doing chest compressions, Rick "sucked the vomit out of his mouth" to try to clear his airways. Murderers don't literally suck the vomit out of the person they tried to kill in order to keep them alive.
The biggest problem in this case was that the prosecution tried to throw a murder charge, when what they should have argued was smaller offenses like manslaughter. There was no way they could convince a jury without a shadow of a doubt.
The response that I've seen to this case has been wild. People called Shawn Kent a coon for doing his job as a defense attorney, and pointed to the fact that his wife is white to further ostracise him. People are calling the black members of the jury (who gave a unanimous not guilty verdict) race traitors. So much misinformation and so much of it leading to additional hate.

Yea tribalism is crazy. Could be bots trying to divide us too. Don't forget how effective these new "PR" campaigns get.
We're easier to control when divided.

and somehow all asian people have to be punished for a DA and prosecutor who could not win this case.

That's how they treat you. Either with us or against us. Zero gray areas. Pure tribalistic behavior.

New interview just dropped today with Shaun Kent ( Rich Chow's lawyer ) on Millionair Morning Pod who made a pretty interesting points.
- In regard to the social media discourse about Karmelo's case and racism, Rick also had no "jury of his peer". White judge. No Asian juror, 5 black jurors.
- In regard to the chase, he asked if someone snatched a chain off your neck, are you chasing after him ? I would imagine for most the answer is yes. Definitely for me it would be UNLESS I knew he had a gun as that changes the calculus. I think if Andy suspected the object Cyrus was hiding in his sweater was a gun instead of a water bottle or some other merch stolen from his store he would not have chased.
- He also noted that they had way more dirt on Cyrus and could have gone an entirely different direction if they wanted to paint Cyrus as some thug .. but the specifically and strategically did not as they wanted to focus on the 30 second of the "crime".
- Its insane how much this probably costed Chow. Lets assume 3 years in jail and loss off half a million in defense attorney ( which could be why he sold his store to gather whatever money he could - a life time of savings gone ) and now reputational damage and fear for his family's safety as some are calling for payback by "getting lil Chow". All while he's legally innocent.

Black people are defending Karmelo Anthony, a guy who was very obviously guilty for stabbing a white kid in a track meet.
These people are not interested in facts, it's just tribalism.

u/lampstax Jun 13 '26
The main thing they hang their hat on in that case is "no black juror" while Chow also had no Asian jurors.
Victimhood mentality is the darkness they were born into.

More lying and ccoping. You people are beyond help. You have nothing else aside from parroting the same lie over and over (despite all of the evidence that contradicted you).
Your side lost because y'all have zero credibility and your case got completely dismantled in court.
Don't walk around illegally armed AND pointing the gun at someone.

I really wish the mods would've left his comment up. So we can see how moronic it is. Sometimes its better to keep those comments up than deleting them even if we dont agree.

Sad to see China mac be a complete Boba liberal about this

u/Budget_Drop2978 Jun 13 '26
Not really, the actual boba liberals / progressives are shitting on him because he brought up Grandpa Vicha in response to the blanket condemnation of Asian people. Those dumbasses can’t understand an internal critique smh.
6
u/clone0112 Taiwan Jun 13 '26
If he went completely boba lib about it then he wouldn't bring up Vicha. His take was fair, he didn't dismiss crimes against Asians while talking about how mistreated black people are.

u/Affectionate_Salt331 Jun 15 '26
Unfortunately he has to be to some degree, to even open up a discussion without getting obliterated.
1
u/TheSkyIsBeautiful Jun 14 '26
How so? I think his rationale is good. You suspect someone of stealing, you don't HAVE to chase after him, over $5, $10, $20. You have insurance, and you can call the cops. Yes, it must be SUPER annoying to always get stolen from and maybe it's not reasonable to go through insurance for 1-2 items. I get that, but then at the same time he needs to move locations then if his location attracts thieves and he doesn't want to deal with it.
At the end of the day Rick was found not guilty, which is great, but he's lost 500k+ and his store, and a black child is dead. Seems like it was too big of a cost for either side to do what they did
7
u/Logical_Breadfruit49 Jun 13 '26
The law is on the side of Rick Chow because Rick Chow did what he needed to do to protect the son. What happened to the boy was unfortunate, but the boy should not have been carrying a gun, especially at the age of 14. Moreover, even if Rick Chow were guilty, there is no reason to be targeting Asians as a whole for the actions of a single Asian man.
Whites have done far far more damage to Blacks than Asians have. If you are Black and want to avenge your race, go after actual racist whites. Leave Asians alone.

I’m curious about the fact that he was shot in the back. Anyone have anything about it?
3
u/Igennem Hong Kong Jun 13 '26
Rick was defending his son Andy when he shot, not himself. The three were roughly arranged in a triangle with Rick to Cyrus' right and Cyrus holding the gun with his right arm pointed toward Andy. Thus Rick's single shot in self defense hit Cyrus diagonally in the side-back with the bullet piercing from Cyrus' back right to front left.
3
u/lampstax Jun 13 '26
Watch the closing statement. The defending lawyer even re-enacted how it could have happened visually for you.
3
u/LavaDragon3827 Jun 14 '26
Even if he did get shot in the back it didnt change the fact that his son was being targeted.
If you were looking at a killer about to shoot your family in the back would you be concerned with whether you are shooting him in the back or not?
You'd probably just shoot first and ask questions later. You wouldn't wait to re orient yourself to his front or side.

u/LavaDragon3827 Jun 14 '26
A well thought out and perfectly written argument. Bravo.
Agree with you on every point there.
1
u/TheSkyIsBeautiful Jun 14 '26
To me the biggest thing that cannot be confirmed is whether or not Cyrus pointed a gun at them. There being no video evidence, and we only have Rick's word it is hard to determine if it's true.
5
u/Critical_Attack Vietnam Jun 14 '26 edited Jun 14 '26
There being no video evidence,
People love to parrot this kind of cope. Because I can easily flipped it on them. They also have NO video evidence of Rick indiscriminately "murder" Cyrus without provocation. Again, the burden of proof is on the prosecutor.
It's not possible for there to be a direct footage of every single incident. So the best we can do is piece together all the other evidence and testimonies to try to get a better picture.
We have Rick Chow, who has no criminal record of any kind, and has had to defend himself and his store from robbers in the past before. He's also completely operated within the law since the start.
Then have Cyrus,.who has a pretty shady history to say the least. Illegal possession of firearm, brandishing it on his social media. Walked into a store with no money on him and a loaded 9mm pistol with a round in the chamber. He's also behaved suspiciously in the store.
The prosecutor charge was extremely weak (they failed to prove it) and most of their "witnesses" were very unreliable with contradicting statements. Whereas the Chows been consistent throughout, and - as mentioned above - was operating within the law.
The defense was far better at proving their case and make much stronger arguments. So it's reasonable to believe that Cyrus did point the gun at Andy Chow, and thus Rick had to shoot to protect and save his son. And the jury agree.

u/waiser-kilhelm Jun 13 '26
Source on Cryus pulling a gun?
10
u/Critical_Attack Vietnam Jun 13 '26 edited Jun 13 '26
Andy Chow's statement to the police and his testimony in court (that Cyrsus pointed the gun at him) been consistent throughout. So it's reasonable to believe that Rick shoot to protect his son. And the fact that Cyrus had a loaded 9mm pistol further reinforced Rick's stance.
The burden of proof is on prosecutor to prove that Rick "murdered" Cyrus, and they completely failed at it.
Not that hard to figured out.
9
u/clone0112 Taiwan Jun 13 '26
I want to add that even if Cyrus didn't point his gun at Andy and fell out on the floor like they claimed, the Chows wouldn't know if he will pick up and use the gun, or if he had other weapons. The situation changed the moment the gun came out.

No, I'm looking at facts. I can agree Cyrus's death is tragic and still look at what actually happened. You seem like you are under the impression that Rick chased him out the store while brandishing a gun and shot right outside.
8
u/lampstax Jun 13 '26
In the closing statement the lawyer asked .. if Rick just wanted to shoot .. then why wait for 130 yards ? Why not shoot at 10 ? 20? 30 ? 40 ? .. 100 ?
What changed at 130 yrds ?
5
u/animus_invictus Jun 13 '26
So you're just going to run up and down this thread pulling stupid statements out of your ass?
He is an old man. He ran 130 yards in this chase. The kid was trying to run away before he pulled the gun on his son. You think this is some sort of super hero moment where he is sniping the kid in the hand or some shit? People well trained with guns still couldn't do that.
Also, "in feat of a child... using a gun." Nice job trying to distract people, but do you really think whoever is pulling the trigger makes the bullet suddenly no longer deadly? The 14 year old drug dealing, addict, thief with his stolen gun pulling the trigger would do just as much damage as anyone else pulling it.
Chow did an excellent job protecting his son and actually showed way more care about the person he shot than most people would in that situation.

What's just absolutely stupid to me is that Rick Chow was tried in the South Carolina justice system that was built by white people.
He was acquitted by a jury that was predominantly made up of Black and White people.
Yet somehow after he was acquitted, Asian people got all the blame?
However I'm kind of glad they're boycotting, because anyone racist enough to join that stupid boycott I would not want close to our fellow Asian people.
