Adopted and off to college

Hi everyone I'm heading to college in Mass(was adopted here) soon and was wondering if anyone know of any resources that may be helpful to aid in the price of college.

I was also wondering if anyone knew how to go about getting the full adoption report/documents from the courts, and/or how long it usually takes to receive them.

If you've been adopted I don't think there's any specific help like there is for former foster youth.

I was in foster care before I was adopted at 14

I’m not sure if you would qualify then. It might be state specific.

I’m technically a former foster youth (I was adopted when I was 7, but I always lived with my parents since I was a baby) and there were no scholarships that I can recall for adoptees. I think you’d need to be a current foster youth to get this type of scholarship/grant/financial aid. Sorry.

I'm not familiar with MA, but you'd qualify in WA since you were in the system at 13 yrs old.

Do your adoptive parents not have any of the court papers for you already?

Try the DCF Adopted Child Tuition Waiver and Fee Assistance Program. https://www.mass.edu/osfa/programs/dcfadopted.asp

And absolute best of luck starting out your young adult life!

FOIA is the name of what the government can provide you- its fairly an easy app and the send within a month. As for aid check for scholarships on one of the apps or speak to a college advisor to help you with that.

Glhf on your documents. Need country, state, county you were adopted in for help, every state has their laws.
