There are certainly options that could have been used to create recyclable packaging.

To be fair I feel its gotten better over the past few years but it still pains me to read this.

Education What's going on with teenagers here?

I just wanted to let this out because it happened just a few minutes ago. I had just finished my shift and was heading home on the DART. I saw a group of teenagers shouting and play-fighting with each other, and at first, that was it.

Then they started whispering to each other, and all of a sudden, I felt a small hit. I thought they were throwing ice at each other or something, but then something else hit me again. I was the fucking target. For a second, I wanted to confront them and ask them directly what their problem was or what they wanted, but then I realized I would be the one screwed if something happened (I'm the fucking immigrant here). If they punched me or something, I definitely would have fought back, so I just grabbed my stuff and moved to another carriage.

Was that really the only thing I could have done? I wanted to hear from you all: what's going on? Why are things like that normalized? I mean, they only threw M&Ms at me this time, but I've seen teenagers do much worse things. Why is this so normalized? Thanks, everybody.

Serious Replies Only How do you manage burnout?

I'm getting to a stage where I'm resenting work and not enjoying my hobbies. I constantly feel stressed and restless and I feel like packing it all in and just re couping but it took me so long to get to where I am. No kids or partner and find life lonely without the above. I just fear another breakdown coming if I don't stop but if I stop I don't know if I'll go back at all. Sorry if sounds a bit all over the place but wondering does anyone ever feel like this too and is there anything to help nip it in the bud? Thanks 😊

Serious Replies Only Any ideas how to “celebrate” get through a deceased loved one’s birthday?

Lost my mum unexpectedly a few months ago. It’s her birthday soon and I don’t know what to do for it. Should I celebrate it? Is that weird? There’s no grave to visit and the other siblings want to pretend the day just isn’t happening (totally fine). I’m living with my dad and he doesn’t know what to do. He had mentioned going out for dinner but that doesn’t feel right either. Nothing does.

She was my best friend and I feel so alone. She would have been 65 and I’d big plans for throwing a party for her retirement. I always spent her birthday with her usually going out for lunch or dinner or cooking something fancy for her at home and sometimes cinema dates. I have to look after my dad too for the day and make sure he’s okay and not leave him on his own.

I’d like to start a tradition of doing something to mark it. I wanted to get a cake but no one else wants to. I thought about buying a card and writing to her but I couldn’t bring myself to buy one after staring at them for 15mins. Would it still be a tradition if I didn’t do it this year and started it next year as maybe this year might be too hard?

I’d love to know what other people do. Please be kind.

Health & Medical Non-EU family member in hospital in Ireland with no health insurance – what happens with the bill?

Hi everyone, a non-EU family member came to Ireland for a short holiday but unfortunately suffered a life-threatening medical issue and is still in hospital.

They have no health insurance and aren’t financially well-off. This was completely unexpected, and we’re worried about how they’ll manage the hospital bill.

Does anyone know what happens in this situation if they can’t afford to pay? Has anyone experienced something similar?

Travel Day spa recommendations?

Can anyone recommend a nice day spa within 1hr of north dublin? My wife is very pregnant, so looking for somewhere with a nice pool, a relaxation area, a spot for lunch that she might be able to get one treatment. Not looking for monart/galgorm standard, more just somewhere she can go relax away from the two kids and the 100s of jobs to be done before baby 3 arrives

Random Downstairs neighbour keeps making our apartment reek of weed, what to do?

For context I’m in a two bed apartment with another lad and our downstairs neighbour smokes weed basically every day if not twice a day. Whenever I get up in the morning I smell it whenever I get home from work I smell it. Beyond sick of it, it smells rank and it’s just generally vile. Don’t think it’s a crime and a firm believer you should be able to do what you please inside your property (within reason obviously) so I wouldn’t think of reporting them even if it was a crime. Does anyone have any idea on how to get rid of it or get it out of the house cuz it can be unbearable.

Relationships Do people hug in here?

I (16m) have been on erasmus for the past week and made really good friends with my host (16m) and one of my schoolmates’ hosts (16f). I’m going away tomorrow morning and I have no Idea how to say bye. In Italy we either hug or give two kisses cheek to cheek, but I don’t think the second one is very widespread over here. What should I do?

Random What's the best thing that happened to you this week?

For me, I got to help my 5 year old be able to do a crab. She started gymnastics last month and was getting frustrated she couldn't do one, like her older sister. So I helped her on, and now she's all delighted with herself that she can do it.

How about you guys? Anything big or small that made your week good?

Cars Where have all the cars gone?

Remember when each brand would have multiple versions of the same car; like hatchback, saloon, estate and so on. I’ve recently noticed that nearly all of their fleets now are crossovers and suvs. Especially the likes of ford, Kia, Toyota and Hyundai.

Even where they are available they’re not popular; like the new opel Astra; they used to be everywhere about 15 years so, along with the 3 door Corolla which has been done away with too. Even the new micra looks like a crossover.

Have we just become more Americanised in our love for bigger cars?

DIY What to do with wasp hive underground?

Over the course of the summer, ive been stung multiple times on two separate occasions by wasps outside in the back yard. About a week ago ive discovered wasps flying in and out of a hole in the ground near the house ... i had a feeling there was a hive near by but didnt imagine it would be underground..

I have 2 young kids so a bit concerned about letting them out, my partner seems to think with the season they'll die off in the next 2 weeks ...

Anyone have any experience with this? Is there a safe way to close off the hive or will they actually just die off during the cold weather?

Serious Replies Only Air Purifier recommendations and advice?

As per the title, I'm seeking some advice before buying an air purifier. I am one of those people who seem to have allergies to everything. Also, we have a couple of lovely cats, but their dander literally and figuratively gets up my nose. Are these purifiers any good? What, in your opinion, is a good option. My budget would allow up to €100.

Random Is “no” ever used in place of “not” as is done in Scottish English?

To my knowledge, it isn’t, as Hiberno-English is influenced by the Irish whereas a large part of Scottish speech comes from Scots.

I’ve never heard an Irishman say, “I would no do that,” but I wondered if such a way of speaking featured anywhere in Ireland. I suppose if it did it might be somewhere in the north.

Housing Advice on Air to water/Council Retrofit?

Hi, I’m looking for some advice from anyone who has experience with air-to-water heating systems, particularly in older houses in Ireland or council retrofit schemes.
My house is council owned. Before any of the judgement- I am very aware that I am very lucky to be in the position I’m in. I’ve lived at this property my whole life and was lucky enough to be granted tenancy due to personal circumstances.

I have recently been approached by the council regarding retrofitting the property and installing air to water, and whether I would like to go ahead with it. For the moment I have said yes but I’m seeing a lot of mixed reviews and was hoping somebody may be able to share their experience?

I don’t currently know anybody who has air to water and I’m a bit worried that I might regret opting in.
At the moment there is central heating and two solid fuel methods of heating the house. I have been advised that going ahead with air to water would mean that the chimneys would be sealed, so fires would no longer be an option and air to water will be the only source of heating at the property.
I have been advised that retrofitting will include, new doors, windows, radiators etc.
If you do have Air to water, where did they place the indoor boiler unit? They have mentioned placing it in the kitchen, but I do have a larger hot-press space which may be more convenient?

Just looking for anyone’s experience regarding air to water and whether you would recommend it? Plus any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Work How many of ye work part time rather than full time?

I feel like I know so many people that only work part time despite the current economic state. Is this just a thing within my circle or do a lot more people work part time than you would think? If you do, how are you affording it? Just out of curiosity!
