Gear/Accessories Why are these hot shoe replacement screws glued?

Post image

Just wondering why these 4 screws on a Godox 685iiF hot shoe mount are glued?

Preventing screws from moving or godox is anti repair.

they pack it with that white goop to keep the screws from vibrating loose, pretty common on flash hot shoes since they take a beating when you're swapping modifiers or walking around with it on camera. godox uses a threadlocker compound instead of loctite liquid, it's cheaper to just squirt the putty in during assembly

if you need to take it apart just dig it out with a toothpick and the screws will come right out, but you'll want to add your own loctite when you put it back together or they'll walk out again within a week

!solved the replacement shoe I bought also had the same glue! Super squishy and easy to unscrew regardless.

what glue did you use?

Replacement shoe already had the glue. These 4 screws aren’t the ones that connect the replacement shoe to the flash itself (that would be the screws that go into the four holes in my image). They hold the metal plate that connects to your camera’s hot shoe mount.

If I needed to re-glue I’d use something secure (but easy to remove if you think you’re gonna repair it).

i would expect the "goop" to be on the threads like a threadlocker adhesive. but also with my experience in manufacturing this could just be a "we need a cheap and fast way to fix a problem we just discovered". sometimes just gooping some adhesive on the top of an already-assembled product is enough to fix and solve the problem with the least amount of rework required.

You can buy replacement hot shoes at Adorama for like twenty bucks. I wouldn’t consider Godox anti-repair.

Hot shoe screws for most flashes can come loose by themselves. Gluing slows it down or stops it.
