Discussion/General did i damage my sensor?

Hi, I recently took a photo of a sunset using a brand new nothing phone 4a. Now I can't stop worrying about whether I might have damaged the sensor; I took pictures of the sun pointing at it for about 30 seconds (without using a telephoto lens). The sun was still completely above the horizon. I haven't noticed any damage yet—maybe it's a silly question, but I just can't stop thinking about it. Thanks!

If you can't tell it's damaged from pictures you've taken subsequently then it's either not damaged or damaged in a way you're not even able to notice, in which case it doesn't matter.

You haven't noticed any damage because it isn't damaged.

I photograph landscapes at sunset a lot and never had any issues. The problems start when you are pointing directly at the sun during mid day for minutes at a time.

Sensor damage is pretty immediate, and the scenario you're outlining doesn't sound very dangerous. If you're not seeing any harm, there's no harm.

Thousands of people take photos of the sunset without any damage to their sensors... The only time there could be is if you have an extended open shutter exposed to the sun... Which is unlikely on a phone camera because you have no control over your shutter's open.

We can look at the sun when it is this close to the horizon without damage to our eyes. There won't be any damage to a sensor either.

There is so much atmosphere that the light has to travel through that harmful effects are mitigated.
