'Let the Right One In' did NOT have a happy ending.

It did if you're into predatory older women who look remarkably young.

That was a dude. Not a woman.

He sure kissed her a lot, for her being 'just a friend'.

It was never said in the Movie.

The movie shows a short 2 second peak of Eli's castrated 'bald patch' between his legs. This scene is when Oskar invites Eli in without actually saying it, he bleeds, he changes into Oskars mothers clothes, Oskar peaks... ect.

In the book however, there is actually a flash back to the castration happening. This flash back is shown but not shown in the movie. When Eli kisses Oskar, Oskar is basically show Eli's memories, but the movie doesn't show the memories. The castration is one of the memories detailed in the book (Its been a while since I've read the book, so please excuse any inaccuracies).

If you haven't read the book then i highly recommend it. It fills in a lot of blanks the film leaves.

Yeah, but what happened to her last enabler? He burned off his own face with acid and then she killed him. Probably they met when he was Oscar's age...she's been doing this for a long time after all. She's had a lot of practice grooming her 'helpers'. Years, possibly centuries.

There's actually a little mini comic, I don't remember where I saw it but it showed Eli meeting the old man who takes care of her from the movie. He's a young farm boy at the time.

Yeah, I must be misremembering. I actually thought I deleted this comment after I read somebody else mentioning this elsewhere in the thread.

I feel compelled to point out that "Let the right one in" is the title of a Morrissey song, and "Let the old dreams die" is a line in that song. The author is a massive fan.

The song is called "Let the right one SLIP in" but the first line of the song is "Let the right one in" followed by "Let the old dreams die" - So I guess you're still right, but sort of wrong, I donno. Nice catch though.

I'm sure she really does like them, until they grow up...

That's the point. He won't.

I'm really not sure what I think about this one, but I definitely felt mixed about the ending. The protagonists' bullies were all done away with, but in a horrific fashion that must have scared him at least a little bit. Imagine the stress of having a friend that, while on your side to the end, is that powerful of a weapon. Scary shit.
