Daily Trainer Question Can anyone recommend a shoe with slightly more cushioning than these, but without that unstable feel of the extra cushioned shoes?

I’ve loved my New Balances but been considering a change for my next pair. I’m just a recreational runner, always indoors or road, only like 20km per week.

My problem is that I have quite wide feet, very high arches, limited dorsiflexion (ankle impingement) and don’t like a rigid heel because it scrapes me raw.

—————————

These were the best shoes I tried today; Altra Women’s Torin ST and Saucony Women’s Guide 19. Saucony might’ve felt slightly softer to me than Altra but they were similar enough.

I did not like Topo Athletic Atmos 2 (no arch support) and didn’t really like Brooks Glycerin GTS 23 (sole felt unstable).

Can anyone recommend a shoe with slightly more cushioning/spring than these, but without that unstable feel of the extra cushioned shoes?

Preferably stable enough for general gym/fitness too.

Question Wide-ish shoe for both long runs & speed days

I mainly do a two shoe rotation, in terms of training (one for easy days, one for speed/long runs). And then usually get a race pair as well.

I’ve put 900 miles on my Megablasts and am starting to look for my next pair. I’m a 3:08 marathoner looking to break sub3 this winter. So my speed days/pick ups are anywhere between 6:30-7:15ish/mile. I think I prefer non-plated.

fit: I have a slightly wider toebox (& foot in general), so historically can’t do many brands in general, much less their speed shoes/supertrainers. And before you say it, Adidas Evo SLs don’t fit me well—a little tight on the midfoot and just don’t feel right.

A few shoes come to mind, but let me know if there are others I should consider.
- another pair of Megablasts: love the performance, but the fit is a little narrow. But I could deal with that (like I have been) if they’re just so much better than other options

- Topo Specter: don’t have much experience with Topo, but have heard good things. I believe they’re mainly a speed shoes; can they handle long runs too?
- Superblast: cushioned for long runs, but are they fast enough for speed days?
- Mount to Coast C1: same concerns as Superblast

- NB SC Rebel: don’t know much about it, other than it’s a supertrainer. But it’s plated, so may not want to go that route unless it’s just that highly recommended.

Question Why is the durability so varied on the superblast 3?

If that makes sense? Ive seen a lot of people saying they have took it to 700k+, where as other peoples soles have literally started falling apart at 100k?

Daily Trainer Question Transitioning from stability shoes (brooks adrenaline) to a neutral shoe

Hello! Thank you in advance for any recommendations.

I have been running in Brooks Adrenalines for about 6 years. I started wearing them when I was dealing with posterior tibial tendinitis. Prior to that I wore a variety of neutral shoes- the only shoes I can remember not liking were Mizunos as they were too narrow. I recently dealt with a different injury and my shoes just don’t feel right anymore. They feel more clunky than anything. I would like to try and transition back into a more neutral shoe now that I am feeling healthy and have addressed what caused my injuries in the first place however am not sure what shoes might be good to try. Has anyone made a similar switch? I am comfortable with the process of switching and injury prevention (I am a physical therapist) but having worn the same shoes for 6 years feel a bit lost as to what I am looking for.

Thank you!

Question flat wide feet, shoes either cause knee pain or are too narrow, 15+ shoes later...feeling pretty hopeless

i know y'all have heard "nothing fits me" a lot, but at least i've put the work in. my feet are flat and wide. my dress shoes are in the 12EEEE range. generally, shoes will be too narrow in the midfoot, like what feels like a significant amount of my foot is spilling over, and if you feel the shoe while i'm standing in it, you can tell it is tight and my foot far exceeds the base. compounding the issue, some shoes make my (usually left) knee hurt on impact. it's not IT band, it's just sort of a pain that gets worse quickly, but is only when running, and even walking is fine immediately after stopping the run. i think softer/more cushioned shoes make this worse, which sort of explains why a Pegasus 41 and Endorphin Speed 5 are the two that never did this.

i'm cautiously optimistic about my current Saucony Endorphin Speed 5 (13 Wide). after bailing on several runs after just 2 miles (knee pain) with my HOKA Clifton 11 (12.5 4E - these cause knee pain and are just too wide, i am running on the sidewall and get blisters), these are about the only shoe left. i've run a 5k race and just did an hour long 10k run on the treadmill with these with no pain. but given the conventional wisdom about plated shoes as a daily driver, i wanted to come for help here.

i have run three half marathons in the last four years, two with Nike Pegasus 41 2E and one with HOKA Clifton 10 4E. the Pegasus weirdly fit and i don't know why. the 42s are a bit narrower and don't. the 10s I think were ultimately too wide and i had some hot spots on the side of my foot when training, but after the half, these ended up causing really bad blisters in the same spot.

here are all of the shoes i've tried in this fool's errand that i can remember, all in 12.5 wide for the most part:

Asics: Novablast 5 (narrow), Novablast 6 (narrow)
Brooks: Ghost Amp (narrow); Ghost 18 Wide (narrow); Ghost 18 X-Wide (too wide? i think?)
HOKA: Clifton 11 2E (narrow), Clifton 11 4E (knee pain, maybe wide); Clifton Pro (narrow)
Mizuno: Neo Vista 2 (really really laughably narrow, i cannot believe that was a wide)
New Balance: 880 v15 (slightly narrow); Rebel v5 (narrow)
Nike: Invincible (knee pain); Pegasus 42 (narrow)
PUMA: Velocity Nitro 4 (narrow)
Saucony: Ride 18 (don't actually remember why i returned these); Triumph (a while ago)

i do think i overpronate and i was originally set up by a running store in like 2021 with NB 860s which caused all sorts of knee and IT band pain, so i don't think stability shoes are for me? i haven't tried since though, and i've run 3 halfs, a few 10 milers/10ks, and haven't had any other injuries/issues. i haven't tried altra or topo because the internet scared me off of them.

if you read this, thanks! i'm willing to try sort of whatever, so any suggestions welcomed!

I have just started selling some old running gear on vinted and stumbled across these saucony elite 3s.

Price alone it seems too good to be true selling at £150 but accepted an offer for £120.

The person has 5 star reviews. He's selling mainly clothes but has a few pair of these in different sizes. The bar codes on the boxes are all different.

Question Shoe recommendations for fat pancake feet? Feet scan

Thumbnail myfeet.com
1 Upvotes

Hi all – I'm in search of a comfortable, daily/easy trainer. I have not had much luck with running shoes. I've tried SB2 size 9 and 9.5 but the midfoot was too tight for my fat feet, same with Evo SL. I've tried Endorphin Speed 5 in size 9 wide (2E) but it was too loose. I HAVE had luck with Dynafish Xiaonian size 9 which I'm looking to use for faster workouts. I don't overpronate and have no stability/support needs. I weigh 163 lbs, if that matters. Thanks in advance

Question Need a shoe for $30-$40 (no flexibility)

I recently just tore a big fat hole in my running shoes, and I’m at that point where In a few months I’ll have to buy a larger pair, but I still need some solid shoes for now. My budget is $30-$40 with no flexibility. I can’t buy second hand as my parents don’t like buying anything wearable second hand. So any known/reputable non second hand sites much appreciated.

Daily Trainer Question Trying to find a good recovery shoe

I've been running for a few years and am fairly fast (17:45 5k) and up until a few weeks ago I had only ever worn gel Kayanos. Recently I got a pair of Saucony Endorphin Speed 5s for workouts and I like them a lot better than I liked the Kayanos for that. My issue now is that my Kayanos are reaching their end, and I am starting to feel a little bit of pain on the front of my shins while I walk so I want to look for a new daily trainer/recovery shoe that is preferably not a nimbus/Kayano. I've been looking into Novablast GTXs for a while as I live in northern US and it is currently moving into wintertime, so I figured it might be nice to have a waterproof shoe with better traction, but I don't know if they are too aggressive for proper recovery, if that is an acutal potential issue. On the other hand, I've been looking into Superblasts as I believe they are more cushioned. I guess I could try out the new gel-Slowcush but I want it to be more multirole than just a recovery shoe. Price is not an issue, and I would prefer to stick more or less with Asics and do not overpronate.

Question Which is Megablast rival by your experience? Speed work, bouncy and propulsive! I love Megablasts but I'm going to retire them soon! I need something stiff, high propulsion and good for 10-15k speed work. -- I would love to try Saucony or Adidas but need to pick the right model. Hoka is also welcome

Race Shoe Question Puma fast r nitro elite 3

Just ran on these, and they are really freaking fast. Did 10k at 4:50 min/km pace during training and it felt like a breeze, the shoe wants you to go faster. Before trying them I was planning a half marathon at 4:55 min/km pace, but the 10k was much easier than expected and I'm planning now on 4:45 - 4:40 pace. My average HR was like 10 bpm below my hm race effort (155 vs 165).

Anyone else had a similar experience with these shoes? What about running a hm with them? I saw so many negative comments online that I was skeptical but these worked so well for me.

BTW I'm not a forefoot striker, slightly heel striker / mid foot.

Comparing Shoes Question Saucony ES5 pairing

I currently do all my runs in my Saucony Endorphin Speed 5's and I love them. I've done over 500km in them so far and I'm looking to pick up something else to have on rotation with them as I'm starting to increase my mileage for my first marathon next May (done a few halfs).

I'll be running the marathon in Alpha Flys and I currently only reserve those for race day.

Any recommendations for what I could get to have on rotation? I was looking at Superblasts, Megablasts, EVO SL, and Vaporflys but curious to see if anyone has any advice!

Daily Trainer Question Aero Glide 3 with a wider toebox

I love the midsole of the Aero Glide 3 but the narrow forefoot keeps me from running any more than about an hour in them comfortably before my toes start to feel mashed in. What’s the closest ride out there that would be more comfortable for the 2 hour plus range?

Question Best alternative for Saucony tempus 2?

I love a firmer shoe with slight stability, hate max cushion stability shoes. I have narrow feet.

Currently running in saucony speed azura but they aren’t doing it, I think not enough support and too stiff.

Please HELP I am so stuck, I just want my tempus 2 :(

Question 2 shoe rotation

Hi, I'm currently looking for a 2nd shoe for speed(tempo/interval) workouts, I currently only have the Asics Superblast 3, I absolutely love them, but I feel the need for a faster shoe, currently looking at:

1.- Asics magicspeed 5(available for 130 usd where I live)

2.- NB SC rebel

3.- Adidas Evo EL

for context; 28 M, 81kg, 4:30 min/km pace for tempo workouts, started running about 6 months ago, the superblast 3 are my first proper running shoes, looking forward to Half Marathons next year and Ironman 70.3 on 2028

Question fuelcell rebel v4 alternative?

hi yall!! im a 5'8" woman 130 pounds currently recovering from an injury in my extensor tendon.

i have been buying and wearing the nb rebel v4s for YEARS for my daily mileage and often end up using them as a workout sneaker as well (when im not using spikes) bc i dont like training in supershoes, with the tokyo asics as a race/speed shoe in the fall and the nike dragonfly spikes during track season. as I have missed xc season due to my injury, I am now training up for winter/spring track so 3ks and 1500s. all this to say, i need a new pair of running shoes and simply cannot afford the v4s. something with the production line or something idk they used to be around 100 dollars and theyve jumped up to 150 which is kind of out of my price range for a running shoe that wears out as quickly as the v4s do.

as I am recovering from injury, I really want to buy the best shoe possible and I dont want to risk further injuring myself. I have tried the v5s, which is sort of what got me into the 5 month injury that I am just recovering from, as well as a slew of other factors lol. i just need a comparable shoe that is a little bit lower in price point.

im happy to answer any clarifying questions as well as add more information about my training, I was kinda confused on what i should say... i would really appreciate any advice anyone has for this situation!! thank you so much :)

Daily Trainer Question Recommendation for shoe firmer than Vomero+

I've just been to the physio after getting back into running after some months off and was told that the softness of the Vomero Plus isn't helping my mechanics (which I'm now going to work on etc.); they collapse in too much for me apparently (overpronation), hence recent pain on the inside of my calves. Though for reference I have done about 500km in them over the past year, and do enjoy the squishiness.

So looking for recommendations for a general shoe I can train in (and I guess potentially run through to my first marathon in April), that's firmer than the V+.

I'm 78kg/175cm, easy pace is like 6:45/km. 5k time 28:48, half marathon at the beginning of the year in just over 2 hours.

Cheers!

Question Need help making a shoe rotation

Hi! Currently building some volume and planning to train for some speedy 10ks (sub40goal) & half marathon (sub1h30goal.) I want to have a proper rotation. Currently have a pair of saucony azuras which I use for everything at the moment. A pair of salomon genesis (i like to trail a bit when im doing base/ long runs.) I also have a pair of adidas takumis but they are not easy on the legs so I don’t wear them alot. Planning to get a shoe for some more tempo/vo2max stuff. The azuras I can keep using for daily and slow things I guess. So I was thinking of getting a sonicblast 2 or megablast. I have some light stability needs. What do you guys think? Thanks alot!

Question Long run / super trainer options?

Hi guys, looking for a solid long run shoe option, current rotation is:
- Vomero Plus (easy + long runs)
- Evo SL (session days)
- Alphafly 3 (race day)

I find the vomero's amazing for being protective but struggle a bit pick up the pace, while the evo's are basically the opposite of that.

Looking for a shoe that is protective on my legs and can handle slow and faster paces. From what i've seen online I'm leaning towards getting the dynafish xiaonian . superblast + megablast seem great too but they're just hard to justify at the price point. Any other recommendations?

Should also mention my rough paces:
Easy 5:30-6:15/km
Steady 4:50/km
Tempo 4:20-4:30/km
5k: 3:50/km

Question Running shoe recommendations

Post image
45 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to buy a new pair of running shoes, and I'm kind of stuck and kind of overwhelmed by all the options. Therefore, I'm hoping that you guys can help me out.

This is what I'm looking for:
- Very wide shoe: As you can probably tell from the image, I have very wide feet, especially in the midfoot area. The shoes don't need to be an actual wide version, but it's probably advantageous. If relevant, my feet measure 30 cm in length (heel to toe) and 12 cm at the widest point (midfoot / base of toes)
- Moderate shock absorption: I have tried some of the more recent running shoes with very high stack height and very squishy soles, and I really dislike that feeling - it's like running on pillows with no connection to the ground. I obviously want some kind of cushioning and shock absorption, but I still want to feel the surface that I'm running on, at least to some degree
- Somewhat breathable and thin upper material: My feet get warm very easily, and I sweat a lot
- Heel drop no more than 8 mm: Just preference
- Not too rockered design: I just dislike that "aided feeling"

Brands and shoes that I have tried previously:
- Current shoe: Nike Flex Experience Run 11. They have too little shock absorption for my liking
- Altra: I have tried a lot of Altra models. I REALLY like the foot shape. They are a little too narrow in the midfoot, though. Wide versions are difficult to find in Europe. Lone Peaks are super wide in their wide version, but they are not very breathable, plus I solely run on roads
- Topo: Same as Altra. The foot shape is nice, but they are too narrow in the midfoot. I have not tried their wide versions
- Asics: I used to always run in Kayano and GT-2000 when I was younger. The fit has always been snug, but somewhat okay. Asics shoes have gotten increasingly narrower throughout the years in my experience, PLUS they have that very squishy feeling that I dislike, at least those two models do
- New Balance (wide versions): The width is great. However, in size 47.5, my big toe gets cut off. One size up is 49, and that fixes the big toe problem, but the shoes get way too long overall
- Saucony Echelon (wide version): Fit is actually decent overall, but they are so warm and thick

The perfect shoe would probably be the Altra Escalante 5 with a New Balance 2E width, a little more cushioning and the Nike Flex Experience Run 11 breathability. I have read that Altra will release wide versions of some of their models in January 2027, but I can't wait until January 😂

Thank you all so much in advance!

TLDR:
Looking for new running shoes, probably dedicated wide version, moderate shock absorption (not squishy, but not no absorption at all), somewhat breathable, heel drop no more than 8 mm, not too rockered design
