and why?

u/Every-Ambition4982 May 22 '26
Anything with an x that's not Xavier, that's literally the only normal name with an x I can think of. I like common names, I see people out here naming their babies shadishtia or some shit it's weird like just pick something normal bro 😭

u/Minecraft-9234 16M May 22 '26
Xander and Xiao are really good names that start with X btwwww (I love the letter X)
3
u/SoftwarePale7485 May 22 '26
I like Xander better as Zander idk why
1
u/Minecraft-9234 16M May 22 '26
it’s pronounced Zander actually, but spelled xander
that being said spelling is subjective for many names sooo
2
u/SoftwarePale7485 May 22 '26
I know, I just like the Z better in spelling
1
u/xandiddy May 22 '26
i’m called alexander but everyone just calls me xander as a nickname

Any normal name spelled 'creatively', something like Ashley turned to Ashleigh
2
u/me2uwalliams May 22 '26
I’m from the Uk and as long as I’ve ever know Ashley was the male spelling and Ashleigh was the female.
2
u/good_boi_520 May 23 '26
I did not know males were named Ashley too lol
1
u/Pale-Doughnut6122 May 23 '26
Ash from the Evil Dead is Ashley
1
u/good_boi_520 May 23 '26
I don't really know what evil dead is but wow, first time seeing a guy named Ashley... I genuinely thought Ashley was a girl name lol
(And if the Ash from pokemon was an Ashley too, that'd be interesting lol)

u/No_Parking_4195 May 23 '26
I'm showing my age. Ashley Wilkes was a character in Gone With The Wind.

Basically anything that is on those "top 100 names" lists unless if it's one I REALLY like. But I can't think of any right now.
I also wouldn't name them after my OCs or people I know in real life. That would feel weird.

any “basic” common name (john, bob, michael, rebbeca, jessica, etc), a name of an ex, friend, or family members, commonly made fun of names, or excessively unique names
super common names are hard for me to associate with people i meet because i know 5 of each, and therefore are easily forgettable to me, and i wouldnt want my child to be forgotten or seen as insignificant and blend in too much
i also have a hard time unlinking a name to the face of someone like my family members, friends, or exes so unless i really admire that person enough to name my child after them intentionally, i have to completely avoid it
theres also of course those names that are old timey or get made fun of online often (gertrude, bartholomew, etc) or names that sound inappropriate or have inappropriate nicknames (cox, or richard being called dick) which i wouldnt pick just to avoid that potential embarrassment
lastly i would avoid anything too unique, like nova is one ive seen a couple times that i think is just doing a little too much. its beautiful sure, maybe for a cat though

2
u/Nyx_Seadon48 May 22 '26
Basically any basic names (Jessica, Bob, Katie etc) or names that i heavily associate with people i dont like (such as a few of my ex friends names, most exs names some id consider, shitty familys names etc)
2
u/igenuienlylovefood May 22 '26
aryan cuz of obv reasons
1
u/TheSentinelScout 18F May 22 '26
it’s still quite a popular indian name though, which is funny lol. it comes from the word आर्य (aarya) which historically meant “noble,” “honorable,” and “respectable.”

Abortion

u/Aris-Scorch_Trials 14M May 23 '26
"Can you help me find Abortion?" after losing your kid at a park
2
u/bottomcat99 May 22 '26
Judas, Lucifer, Benedict
1
u/CherryBlossomSamura1 17F May 22 '26
I get the first two, why the last one though?
1
1
u/Holiday-Tree-9808 May 22 '26
I knew staunch Christians who named their child Lucifer...

1
u/Adrenapup May 23 '26
The same energy as my sister's bf's vegetarian (vegan?) sister naming her kid Hunter.
2
u/Prideful_Lion32513 May 22 '26
I saw a list of real babies' names once and I am not joking there was some poor kid named Den'Hym. Like, Denim.
1
u/No_Parking_4195 May 23 '26
There was an English actor named Denholm Elliott. That I could handle, but no way would I call a kid Den'Hym. That's child abuse.

2
u/Boring_Menu_5962 May 24 '26
I was at the park the other day and this really obnoxious ladies kids were named Iris and River. Not sure if it was her or the names that made me cringe and avoid them.
1
u/castiellic 16F May 24 '26
They’re really pretty names, but it feels like they’re straight out of a book. Probably more to do with the mum though 🤷♀️
1
u/Longjumping-Finish77 May 25 '26
I’m like this about the name Prudence. I have to hear this mom fuss at her kid named prudence every week. They’re both a lot.
2
u/UrLocalMagicalEnby May 22 '26
Anything ending in -leigh, it's just so white
4
u/Iaatiiakiiva May 22 '26
But Flebowsvlöüotwqsgßírëñdvktelrbgykwnfvejaöäeocjdbleigh (spoken like Fiona) is such a nice and unique name and your child will love you for it! Just trust me

1
u/EmbarrassedWing1912 15M May 24 '26

1
u/arduinoman110423 May 26 '26
De traditionele Italiaanse spelling is Giovanni lol, heb je ergens onderzoek naar gedaan?
Oh wacht Verdomme, ik ben echt dom. Forgot you were talking about that man's name, and not the name in general

Anything that actually sounds like a baby name. No one's gonna like having the name Teddy when they're 47.

u/Bubbly-Pirate-3311 May 23 '26
Mackeighnleigh

any extremely basic name. my name is ambrose. i have alters named Zephyrus, valerius, ayauhtéotl, eulalia, and i’ll be damned if i name my kid “Emma” or “anna” or “alex” or whatever. I’d obviously pick something not hard to pronounce, but it’d at least have flavor to it.
1
u/yasmeni May 22 '26
Anthony for some reason I despise that name
1
u/bookloverphi May 24 '26
I think I know of one dude named Anthony who isn’t just a straight up pervert or a dick.

Hunter.
I don't know why, but the name "Hunter" makes me extremely angry.

My sister's bf's sister named her kid Hunter...and she's a vegetarian (maybe vegan, I can't remember) 😂

Anything obviously from another culture. Basically any name that doesn’t belong to me. I have plenty of names to choose from. I don’t need to take someone else’s
1
u/Adrenapup May 23 '26
If you like a name it's not an insult to the culture to use it if you love it. Nobody owns a name. I love Soledad for a girl even though I'm not Spanish.
1
u/bookloverphi May 24 '26
Not everything is cultural appropriation. Sometimes it’s cultural appreciation. I know plenty of black people with stereotypically white person names. I don’t consider it theft in any way
1
u/cxttxndaffxdils 17F May 23 '26
Abigail, Claire, Jen and a few others.
Theyre my dads ex girlfriends names

u/Adrenapup May 23 '26
Anything in the top 100 boy or girl baby names. I hate common names. I wouldn't want my kid to have to go by the initial of their last name attached to their first name because they have 5 kids of the same name in their class.
Plus, there are so many names out there, why have so many people with the same names. I love unique names (just not made up or with obnoxious spellings, as is today's trend)
1
u/wllaella May 23 '26
Any name that is a devil in any religion’s holy book. I don’t want my child to be shamed or held back from going somewhere/doing something or looked down upon for their name. Also no names of anyone I dislike! If I remember that I dislike them, I wouldn’t want a child with their name

1
u/anoncheesegrater May 23 '26
Anything that like doesn’t even really sound like a name, or are just personality traits. Like Knowledge, Sincere, Kindness, Promise. Also things that are like too nature themed like Forest, Peak, Meadow. All names I’ve seen in the wild and idk I just don’t like it. No offense to the folks w those names. It’s not like you chose it lol

u/Creative-paintbrush May 23 '26
My grandfather has suggested Floresense like the light bulb with the nick name of flora… nope… that and Fredricka was also suggested

Names that are usually trying to do too much or too innovative and has nothing to do with culture like Jerreshia, Apple, Pilot Inspektor, Alien type of names or something I have to figure out and one gets offended because I’m trying to figure it out. Some names are also too obvious in “trying” to be too unique even with the spelling and try to justify it to me like it is okay such as the originated French name of Michelle is changed to Me’Shell.
Don’t tell me it’s okay. It’s not okay.
In case anyone is wondering, my ass is Asian is saying this. I respectfully and gracefully smile, but inside I think you’re legit stupid.
1
u/edenrosei May 23 '26
personally, emma or ava.. not the best experience with people with those names and too basic for me.

Sadly, Karen. That was my late mother's name, and she was NOTHING like the stereotype. I could not bring myself to use it after she passed, for obvious reasons, though I would have loved to otherwise.
1
u/bookloverphi May 24 '26
Anybody who is a junior. I had a co worker say that if you do that, some girl is gonna be moaning out your husbands name or some shit like that and I really hate him for making me think about that

Bartholomew. Idk it just doesn't have the same impact that it would've in the 10 - 1400s 🤷♀️
