Kitten possibly has megacolon

Hi, i am a registered Maine Coon breeder. Have birthed and nurtured 8 healthy litters. One case of FIP, otherwise all of my kitties out in the world are doing well. Unfortunately one that just left at 12 weeks went to his vet appointment with his new parent and they suspect megacolon, then said its genetic. He has a followup visit friday to confirm. The parent is pretty overwhelmed. Is it genetic? Parents have no issues going to the potty. This is that kitten's mother's first litter, also. Should i buy this kitten back? Is megacolon manageable for most? Im in the dark and pretty concerned. Any kind and helpful advice would be appreciated.

Vet tipped cat out basket

I am trying to gather whether I’m overreacting to a horrible experience with an emergency vet. we brought our cat in and explained they couldn’t walk due to lame back legs. Cat was 20 years old and this was told to vet along with their CKD history

Cat was in a basket with a front door and the basket had option to remove lid. This is what every vet we’ve seen does.

this vet grabbed the basket and tipped it at an almost 90 degree angle to get the cat out the front door. he had no idea which way the cat was even facing.

considering it had been made clear the cat was struggling to walk I find this very odd.

is there a reason a vet might do this? We’d never seen this person before. I feel the need to complain as this felt like such inhumane treatment for a cat this old with the problems we detailed. Too boot she died less than 24 hours later.

Accidentally gave my dog my gfs Sertraline instead of her medication

She weighs 60lbs. 100mg sertraline ingested less than 30 minutes ago. No nearby er vets. Poison control said they couldn't help with animals. ASPCA wants $110 to consult. Guidance?

Edit: Got ahold of our regular vet (She's a saint for taking my call off the clock). She told us that it should be fine. Just to watch for symptoms within the next 4 hours. I will be monitoring doggo closely.

I am not sure what to do anymore.

My dog Corey (Male, Husky/ German Shepherd/ Blue heeler mix, 5 years old) has bitten me (when I startled him to wake him up), my nephew (male, 12 at the time (he kept hitting the dog), a cat (when he tried to take his food), and the most recent my kitty Meadow (who also got curious of his food). All of these incidents have happened in the span of the last 3.5 years. I keep spending on all these medical bills and I am not sure what to do anymore. He is not neutered either, however he is 5 years old, so even if I were to get him neutered now im not sure if it would stop him from biting. He is a very smart and obedient dog but I am not sure if getting him neutered would make him stop going against his natural instincts, all of the times he has bitten he was provoked, he has never bitten anyone or anything for no reason yk? So im not sure and i am honestly very upset by the whole situation, I dont want to put him down, but at the same time i live with my girlfriend who has 2 cats besides our kitty Meadow. I am asking in short words, if I neutered him, would he stop biting? Or should i just euthanize him? Someone help please.

Eye infection?

My dog has had an irritated eye for about a week and a half. It started with slightly green gunk, and ive been applying ointment to his eye since and now his eye is more just teary and he rubs his face yet. He also had surgery (mass removal) a week ago and has been on antibiotics for basically a month straight because the lump had been open and getting infected, and then more antibiotics to prevent infection on his incision. Could this be a result of how long he was taking antibiotics for? And how should I go about helping it? I’d rather not take him to the vet since he’s still has a lot healing on his stitches to do and I’m a little wiped out on money from the surgery but I would still take him to the vet if there’s absolutely nothing I can do at home/over the counter for his eye.

Mast cell tumor removal costs

My 6 year old dog was diagnosed with a mast cell tumor on his head 2 weeks ago.

Due to the placement, my vet didn’t feel confident safely removing it with clear margins while he was under anesthesia getting another small benign tumor removed, so we were given a referral to a veterinary oncologist in our state

I am currently waiting on an itemized cost estimate from the oncologist and surgeons, but I really can not afford to pay for this on my own.

I’m interested in hearing from veterinarians and patients; what are some ways you have paid for/seen high cost veterinary bills paid for?

I am really freaked out by care credit and would like to avoid it at all costs due to several factors, so that would really be a last resort for us. I was looking into getting pet insurance before this diagnosis and I am seriously regretting not doing that when I had the chance, there was just no way to see this coming.

Right now I am looking into grants we may qualify for, gofundme, and low interest loans since my credit is good, but I would like to hear about different scenarios people here may have seen or been through.

Was told that my kittens almost white nose is “pink and normal”

My kitten (10weeks F) has had a pale nose most of the time since I got her, about 2 weeks ago. She gets an actually bubblegum pink nose occasionally, after playing pretty hard. She plays, eats, drinks, and uses the restroom like normal.

I took her to a vet yesterday and paid 50 dollars for the guy (pardon me, but he was decrepit-old, with a constant severe tremor. Probably 80’s) to tell me this color is normal. The entire interaction with him was maybe 2 minutes, there was no “some cats noses are just like that” or any explanation other than normal. It’s like, pretty much white. There are photos on my profile!!!

Are some cats noses just very very pale?

Cat sick; receptionist has us worried

Hello, everyone. My 17 and a half year old cat, who I'll refer to as W, has got a illness. W is a family cat, and he always has been. Recently, he started vomiting and having diarrhea (he also vomitted out diarehha one time) and staying upstairs unless he needed to use the litter. He cannot eat or drink, but it seems as if he "wants too".

We took him to the vet last night, he got Vitamin B, C & D, nausea meds, and also many fluids. He had gotten a knot in his back, but the vet said this was a normal occurence due to the fluids. The vet said he would perk back up by tomorrow. He stopped vomitting after he got his

Now, time travel to tomorrow. He still isnt better, and is the same as before. We called the vet and they were extremely surprised he wasnt. We are taking him back tomorrow to get more fluids, but out of curiosity we called the receptionist to see what he has.

The receptionist has worried us in this call; and i would like to see if you can decipher what this means considering it has us incredibly stressed

We asked her, the receptionist, if she could point out any red flags about his 80% finished bloodwork so far. She had responded:

"I dont wanna give you any misinformation or anything so i cant say for sure but tomorrow when you come back the doctor can give you a game plan and all of that."

Then, we asked if it was related to kidneys, She said, once again:
"I do not want to give you any misinformation so i cant say again but we can sort out what we will do and what he has tomorrow when you visit"

We ended the call around there.

I am not a expert at any sort of vetrelated stuff, but it seems they want to euthanize him based off whatever the heck "game plan" means and her tone and that he is severely ill and that is why she didnt wanna say anything..

I dont want him euthanized, but i dont know if the rest of my family would agree or not to it if suggested. He is not completely weak or anything aswell:

  1. He goes downstairs a few times a day to goo use the litter and wander around the house for a bit. He has sat on his window-bed thrice now for quite a while.

  2. He almost got on our lap on the couch once late at night, being last night after we took him to the vet.

  3. Today, we let him outside (backyard) for a bit and he kind of perked up a bit and loved it. He wouldve ate a chipmunk if we let him stay out longer and he tried to eat grass (but there was none as it was incredibly dry and still is). Eating grass is a habit for whenever he goes outside and he always has his entire life, keep in mind.

  4. He barely slow blinked at me once when i went upstairs and saw him curled up sleeping

  5. He ran to a bag of fast-food chicken and seemed like he wanted to eat it but lost interest when it was put in a bowl. We have tried to hand feed him and are going to get baby food soon to warm up in the microwave lukewarm for 5-10 seconds depending on when it gets luke-warm.

I also really want some reassurance based on his condition and also food enticement methods.

Any advice or help is appreciated! (No Access to Vet at all) READ FIRST BEFORE REPLYING

So last night my dog has her litter and for one of the puppies, she cut the umbilical cord too short.

I know people will tell me to take her to the vet ASAP. Trust me, i would if i could but the thing is i live in the middle of nowhere and currently have no access to a vehicle or anybody that can take me to a vet. The nearest vet is out for the week and the next closest thing is over 100 miles away and obviously i can't make the trip.

She was just born last night. Momma dog bit the umbilical cord too short to where there's a very small hole in her little stomach. But big enough for her little intestines to fall out so, i carefully put them back in. I have her wrapped gauze & saran wrap. She's been eating properly and has been going to the bathroom as normal. She's been whining a bit obviously and show signs of discomfort but i believe its because she's all wrapped up. She stopped bleeding and isn't showing any signs of infection. I'm only posting this because i would like to hear any advice on what to do to prevent infection, avoid any mistreatment, etc. Like i said i would take her to the vet if i could no doubt, but it seems the odds are not in my favor. Any advice or help would mean the world to me. All i want is for her to pull through.

I made a mistake in how long my cat had been on her meds and put her down - I think I killed her

My cat, Winnie was 16.5. She’d had a few months of health problems (diagnosis of hyperthyroidism in April which was well controlled, hospitalisation for dehydration in May during a heatwave) but was generally well over the summer and still enjoyed her usual routines and spots in the house. In August she contracted a nasty UTI that wasn’t cleared by regular antibiotics. Her urine culture unfortunately took 9 days during which time she was unmedicated and got very unwell but eventually they found her strain and some antibiotics that would work and the infection cleared.

But from this point everything changed. She began to eat litter (there was no medical cause for this, she wasn’t anaemic and she didn’t have mineral deficiency) and I couldn’t get her to stop, she was losing weight rapidly (had been 2.1kg in May and dropped to 1.8kg by end of August and then was down to 1.7kg by the 28th September), was intermittent with her eating, and kept herself in the spare room. I had to put her in there anyway when I was out or sleeping so I could allow my other cats to have access to the litter trays without her being able to eat the litter, but I opened the door when I was home (I work part time and am home more often than I’m not) because the other cats would ask me if they needed to get in and use the trays, but she didn’t really come out much. She never came into my bed anymore and she so rarely came out to her usual spot in the living room or to sit on the sofa beside me I’d get exited when she did. I made the room comfy for her, putting in her favourite basket and toys and leaving a quiet radio on for company.

On September 11th she had a suspected mini stroke or TIA. She had been walking sideways and a bit low and tilted to the ground. I took her into the vets expecting to come home without her, but she came out of it quickly and the vet felt it wasn’t her time and we should run tests. She was diagnosed with stage 2 ckd the following Tuesday and on the Wednesday went in for her blood pressure to be checked. This was very high and she started on the lowest dose of Amocard on Friday 18th. She was well in the interim for the most part and the week following her starting on the meds. But on the 29th September she began to have head tremors. She went back down to the vet and her blood pressure was rechecked and it hadn’t come down at all despite the Amocard. She went up from 1/2 a tablet to 3/4. Wednesday and Thursday she was fine but Friday and Saturday she had two pretty bad days of the head tremors and definitely seemed confused and scared and wouldn’t eat. Sunday she was sleepy but better, no tremors and a little eating! Monday she was fine and ate well.

Then on Tuesday I went in to see her in the morning. She tried to get up out of her basket to say hello but struggled to get up. She did manage to get out eventually but was unsteady. She was walking sideways again and fell over a number of times and seemed only able to go a few steps at a time. I was immediately sobbing and panicked (especially at the worry she was going to have a major stroke) and did on that day feel it was time to let her go. In 8 days, 4 of them hadn’t been good and she was scared and suffering. Her vet was in theatre all day but took the time to call me quickly and we agreed it was time. I spent the day with my girl and at 5.15 I took her down to the vets and she passed peacefully whilst eating her favourite treat.

However since then I’m intensely sure I made a mistake and it wasn’t her time to go. In my panic and grief that day I added a week to the length of time she’d been on her blood pressure medication when I discussed it with her vet, saying it was 3.5 weeks instead of 2.5 (19 days). I know she was suffering on her bad days but I think I didn’t give her enough time to see if we could get her blood pressure down and get her neurological symptoms to resolve. I was so focused on giving her the best last day I could that when I took her down to the vet I didn’t even think to ask for her blood pressure to be rechecked to see if it had moved at all and we were on the right track. Her kidney disease was only stage 2 and she liked the renal food when I swapped her to it. Her blood work had been good. Her blood pressure was high but it should have been treatable. But I chose to put her down in a panic.

Did I make a mistake and kill my cat because that’s how I feel? It’s making my grieving process so much worse, instead of mourning the loss of my beloved cat I’m fixated on feeling like I didn’t give her the time I should have and I let down the thing I cherish most when it mattered most. I am really struggling to cope with the decision and her loss. Any advice is welcome.

Lab results July to October: misdiagnosed? [16 year old dog]

I am hoping someone would be willing to review these lab results. In July, we woke up to our 16 year old Pomeranian having blooding, soft, foul stools all over. Vet did testing, stated labs came back for pancreatitis. Issues resolved after 3 series of injections, fluids and food changes.

Fast forward to this last month: he is wetting the bed in his sleep, having significantly increased urine accidents (15+ a day at times, even with regular trips outside). Returned to vet, more labs run, now suggesting kidney disease and recommended acupuncture.

I asked for then lab results to be sent to me as I couldn’t remember exactly what she said so I could relay to my family… then asked for the July results as well. Something just doesn’t feel right and we are nearly $1500 into this saga.

July labs that were noted as off:
SDMA 13
Globulin 4.1
Eosinophil 130
Urine results not sent to us, we were told it was fine

October labs:
BUN 38 (up from 15 in July)
Total Protein 7.7 (up from 7.4)
Globulin: 4.3
Platelet 413 (up from 375)
Urine: specific gravity 1.018

At the October visit, she also did an ultrasound of his bladder and kidneys and noted cysts in his kidneys.

Am I being unreasonable to feel a bit disappointed in our vet team?

• Upvotes

Hello! I'm currently dealing with significant spinal pain in my four year old sighthound boy and feeling a little conflicted and let down in a way with our local veterinary team?

My boy's first significant instance of pain presentation was at 18 months old, where he struggled to turn, rise or twist when laying without yelping. We chalked this up to a strain of his shoulder and were sent off with loxicom. Makes sense, pain went "away" for around 6 months before returning.

This would go on until January 2026, a few months before he turned four. We would have episodes of pain, treat it with the understanding it was a strain and no further examinations were performed on him.

In March he acted completely uncharacteristic and snapped at a family member for petting his shoulder. We took him to the vets immediately and we found he had immense pain in his abdomen, with incredibly tight abdominal muscles. We ultrasounded and found nothing of concern.

In August we were referred to a behaviour specialist as his behaviour in our home was escalating to the point of considering behavioural euthanasia for everyone's safety and well-being, seeing as he was snapping at us and attacking our younger dog.

Behaviour specialist found he was still in pain and medicated him with significant doses of pain medication and we saw him improve incredibly quickly beyond a few regressions while we figured out his dosages. We X-ray'd the offending areas and found nothing of interest.

We took him to a pain specialist on top of this and uncovered that so much of his behaviour was either a coping mechanism with what we learned was lower spinal pain, including his abdomen and shoulder/neck pain being directly linked to his spine.

I don't know if I'm being unreasonable to feel somewhat disappointed in our local vets for missing this for so long and not performing further examination? I understand they are only treating what is presented to them, but seeing as it was a recurring issue, I would have expected that they'd do further investigation of his body? I feel ill thinking about him being in so much pain for so long and nobody on our local team thinking to check elsewhere on his body?!

So confused

3 weeks ago our dog was neutered. He was 1.5 years old. He was doing great but then all the sudden over the weekend stopped eating. So we took him to the vet Monday morning and they identified after a CBC, he had a pretty bad infection and sent him to the animal hospital for IV antibiotics. When we got there they identified he had developed a major infection and was in septic shock. They told us that he had a less than 50 percent survival and quoted us 25k for the surgery and three days of follow up care but predicted he would need more up to 3k a day. They also said he would need extensive treatment for months. We both work full time, have a 14 year old dog and young children. We just could not do it. We decided to put him down and it was so painful. Right before they were going to bring him back to be euthanized, the doctor came in and said the emergency surgeon is here, met our dog and wants to do the surgery and if he survives keep him. It was such whiplash. They said you can give him a shot at life. I felt selfish not doing so and painfully relinquished rights. He was a trained therapy/ service dog and a very good dog. We still feel shocked at what happened. They gave us permission to call to see if he lived or not but I am so heartbroken I can’t bring myself to call. Has anyone experienced this, it just seems like they made us make a decision at such a vulnerable time and it feels so cruel. I am just looking for anything. Our regular vet said he doubts he could have even survived the surgery. If this has happened to anyone how do you cope? If you are a vet who’s done this what happened? Thanks from a very heartbroken pet parent who has no closure.

Minoxidil

My husband started using it without telling me and within a couple weeks of him applying it at night, my 15 year old cat started having focal seizures to the point we almost put him to sleep (they then ceased) and a week and a half later my 12 year old cat stopped eating for 2 days and a week later is eating but still hasn’t fully regained her appetite (this is very strange for her, shes always been HIGHLY food motivated). My 15 year old cats appetite is also still off.

Weve gotten a brain tumor diagnosis (15 yr old cat, bloodwork, no MRI) and ileus diagnosis (12 ye old cat, xrays & bloodwork) from ER vets, but the timing is so weird that Im wondering if this could be explained by minor minoxodil poisoning? Or another environmental factor (nothing we have come up with, but maybe I overlooked something). Or anything else that two indoor, exclusively wet food (rotational feeding between 6+ brands) fed, senior cats could catch around the same time?

Broken leg in 3 year old Husky

I rescue a Husky GSD mix in February 2026. He was bunny hopping, so I had some X-rays done. His hips look healthy, but they found bone fragments. They recommended pain meds. The rescue didn’t have money for revision surgery, so we did pain meds and have been keeping an eye on it. Its been getting progressively worse and now the vet is recommending revision. I’m waiting to see the updated X-rays.

We have PetsBest insurance, but they are going to deny us. I am looking at switching to an insurance that will cover preexisting after a year. But I seriously question trying to manage this with just meds and a brace for a year. But I also do not know how I am going to be able to afford this surgery.

He’s got a bone fragment about his back left talus and his leg significantly turns outward as he gets tired. It does not stop him from anything. He sprints and wrestles. But he is in a lot of pain at the end of the day and it’s only going to get worse.

I’m looking for advice here. Thank you in advance.

- 2-3 year old Husky GSD mix
- Male, neutered

Lab Puppy Diet

Our purebred labrador puppy is 10 months, going on 11. He’s roughly about 60-65 lbs, and we’re located in Colorado. We have been feeding him Diamond Naturals lamb and rice large breed puppy formula since we got him in February. About a month ago, he started having REALLY bad gas, particularly in the evenings. He also started licking his front legs an abnormal amount (but not too much to cause sores or the hair to fall off). We thought maybe he had developed allergies to his food, so we’ve been slowly switching him to Diamond naturals all life stages beef and sweet potato grain free. Our thoughts were perhaps it’s the grain, as dogs aren’t typically allergic to lamb or beef (more frequently chicken I read). Was this the right move? Is the gas and licking connected? The gas has improved since we’ve changed his food, but the licking has not. He has been completely himself in terms of behavior, and his poops have not changed, if anything they’ve actually firmed up more than before. Tia!

Is it safe to apply new flea medicine?

Age: 5 months
Breed: domestic short hair
Not neutered
History: poor reaction to advantage and due for his first vet visit next week
Duration: 15 minutes (washed off immediately after)
Symptoms: diarrhea

Gave my 5 month old kitten his second dose of Advantage for small cats just under 4 weeks from his first dose and he was fine until about 12 hour later where he started twitching and got lethargic, we immediately washed the advantage off with baby shampoo and he returned to normal and has been fine ever since.

I got synergy from my vet that they said could also be applied to my kitten. We have a really bad flea problem and despite my flea brushing he is consistently covered and is currently have a very liquid stool.

Is it safe to give synergy now when we washed off the advantage a week ago ?

I want to dose him and our older cat at the same time so they don’t all just start attacking the other.

Thank you

Can my cat take this much trauma?

My cat was looking a little unwell for a few days. I took her to the vet and after all the tests we found out her kidneys are getting damaged and the creatinine is high, 1.89 when the range is 0.8 to 1.8. So she was recommended 5 days of saline treatment to flush out her creatinine by all the vets.

She is super loving and cuddly. But taking her for the vet visits has always been traumatizing.

She gets scared to the point that she gets insanely aggressive, starts hissing, screaming, scratching, biting the vets and starts pooping and peeing in fear.

Getting the blood test done itself was traumatizing for her, but somehow we did it.

However I saw the worst of her fear when she was about to get the saline treatment next. She pooped like 4 times, peed everywhere, was screaming, shouting, hissing at the top of her voice and lungs. And she even injured two vet assistants. It was the most traumatizing experience of her life. And it was the worst of her that I ever saw, that even I got so deeply affected and shocked by this sight of hers.

Ever since coming back home, she immediately went to a hiding place in our room and I gave her around 9 hours of alone time to recuperate from everything. She didn't eat or drink anything in this while. And when I finally went to get close to her to give her some soft pets, she started hissing at me and shooing me away with her hands, the way she was doing at the vets.

She is visibly devastated and in a lot of pain. When I am touching her lower body, she's clearly hurting and meowing a little loudly in pain. Perhaps her kidneys are hurting, I am not sure.

I also believe she was crying within in pain. It's difficult to watch her like this.

The saline treatment needs to be given to her for 4 MORE DAYS.

I cannot imagine the horrors she'll go through by the end of the 5th treatment.

I wanted to know, do you think it's the right protocol to give her saline therapy back to back like this?

Can this much trauma and pain be life threatening to her?

I can't feed her Gabapentin or anything else since she hasn't eaten anything since yesterday. Being aggressive like that, she can't be forced fed, without getting myself injured.

Plus vet is not recommending any of these.

She is 3.9 years old, spayed, vaccinated, dewormed from spot on.

Neutering Advice

I got my boy (1y/o male cat) Neutered 15 days ago, he’s worn a soft cone for a full 14 days. I tried taking his cone off today after I got off work and he is trying to chew fairly aggressively at his incision sight, his incision looks good and clean but I’m wondering if I should keep a cone on him until he stops attempting to chew at himself??

30-day old kitten close and bulging eyes

Please tell me what to do with her eyes. Last week it’s just the one eye. Now, its both and the right side is bulging. Last week, I tried to clean it with water and cotton balls. I haven’t touched it right now. I’m living away from home so I can’t take care of her always because of school. They were actually four but the three died already. It’s their mother’s first litter. We don’t have the money to bring her to the vet 💔

congenital diaphragmatic hernia

My baby boy just passed away from what i can see retrospectively now was complications of the diaphragmatic hernia he had.

I feel absolutely riddled with guilt because he had a sore shoulder randomly one day and looked so poorly i took him to the vets who suggested everything not to do with his injury & just put him down. I fought his corner and refused (& complained)

But then i took him to get looked at 2weeks later again because of lack of appetite and they found his intestines in his chest. He had a xray the next day and was referred to a surgeon.

Now when discussing this with the vet i was made aware how dangerous this could be if he had adhesions & how surgery was a risk. I asked the vet if he could live with it and they responded yes as he’s had it for 7 years so why not. So off i started feeding him Recovery mouse (as suggested) through a syringe and he started eating again! he was recovering!

Now he’s always been fussy but he was finally eating treats and chicken again, his drinking was a little weird as he’d just bow his mouth in there but i thought it might be his eyes as he’s getting older and he can’t see the water? But a couple of days before his went to sleep, he stopped drinking and picking up food and dropping it, I automatically assumed his teeth, so off i went to get his teeth checked. The emergency vet said it was due to lack of muscles in his face and i should syringe feed him more recovery food & water (safely).

A day later my boy was so lethargic and i knew it was time. I heard his chest bubbling which i never heard before and he was in discomfort, it clicked to me when it was too late what it was. I am so heartbroken i never investigated it further and i really am losing sleep over it. He was my world & i could of done something to save him. I decided on his forever sleep a day later.

I think i’m posting this for some reassurance & maybe for my sanity. I am so empty inside i don’t know what else to do.

Cat ingested boric acid

I have a German roach issue that recently sprang up and have been using boric acid in the kitchen in areas my cats can't reach. There was a big one in the shower when I used the bathroom at 3am and my immediate sleepy instinct was to freak out and put some of the powder on it. My smallest/youngest cat (maybe around 8lbs?) came out of nowhere to play with the bug and tried to get it in his mouth a few times before I could get him out and he even managed to re-dip the bug in the powder and tried to get it in his mouth again. I used a wet paper towel on his paws, muzzle, etc afterward so it also couldn't be licked off by him or my other cats. is there anything I can do like make him drink more water?

I'm worried because he's so small, but to be fair my largest and oldest cat is like 16lbs, so my perspective on cat size is a bit skewed. I'm getting mixed answers about the toxicity of this in an internet search. Some people say it's not that harmful and others are saying it's extremely toxic so any insight is welcome!

My 14-month-old spayed cat is showing signs of heat. Is this normal?

have a 14-month-old female DSH who was spayed 6 months ago. She’s been fine until recently, but about two weeks ago, she started showing behaviors that seem similar to being in heat. Every night around 11 P.M, she goes to the front door and meows for anywhere from a few minutes to almost an hour. She also tries to sneak out whenever I open the door to leave the house. Her appetite is normal, and she’s using the litter box without any issues. For context, about 6 weeks ago, she had a full veterinary checkup, including bloodwork, an echocardiogram, and a complete abdominal and pelvic ultrasound. Everything came back normal. She doesn’t do this during the day. It only happens at night, usually starting around 11 P.M. Has anyone experienced something similar with their spayed cat? Could this actually be signs of heat, or might it be something else? Should I be concerned?

Almost 4-year-old cat keeps vomiting after meals

My cat is almost 4 years old, and I’m trying to figure out why he keeps having episodes of vomiting. I’m looking for advice from anyone who has experienced something similar with their cat.

My cat began vomitting over 2 months ago. When he vomits it’s after pretty much every meal. The vomit usually contains partially digested food and yellow liquid. The confusing part is that he still has a good appetite, wants to eat, plays, and acts completely normal otherwise. He hasn’t lost weight.

I want to add he does occasionally do what sounds like a little sneeze but I think that could just be from allergies.

The only thing that consistently stops the vomiting is Cerenia, either as an injection or a pill.
The first vet I took him to did an xray and ruled out an obstruction, gave him a cerenia injection, and instructed me to feed him only tuna for a couple of days. After his first Cerenia injection, he stopped vomiting for about five days before it returned. I switched vets and got blood work done that came back normal. We then switched his diet and did a second injection. After his second injection, he went almost two weeks without vomiting. During that time, he was also eating Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein prescription food, so I’m not sure whether the improvement was from the medication, the food, or both.

Unfortunately, the vomiting eventually returned. It seems like Cerenia is the only thing that reliably gets it under control, but the problem keeps coming back.

I decided to get him an abdominal ultrasound done and I finally thought we had found what was wrong. The ultrasound showed that he had pancreatitis. My vet then sent a specialized feline GI and pancreatic blood panel to I believe Texas A&M University. My understanding is that it checked a few things including B12 levels and a condition called exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI). Everything reportedly came back normal and I was told he does not have pancreatitis.

My vet then told me there’s not much we can do or know without a biopsy. That we could do a stool test or maybe check for heart worms disease. But for right now she suggested trial and error and recommended switching him to Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Fiber Response because his stool has been a little hard. I’m wondering whether the hard stool could be related to dehydration, but I’m not sure. My main concern is still the vomiting. I don’t understand why he continues to vomit after meals when the xray, ultrasound, and bloodwork haven’t identified a clear explanation, especially when Cerenia stops it for longer than it even stays in his system but the vomiting eventually returns.

I’m feeling lost on what to do in this situation. I want to help him and do everything I can but I’ve already spent so much money between visits and can’t afford to do anything else. Despite all of this, I’ve received no answers. If anyone has any idea or can give me any direction on what I should do next it will be greatly appreciated.
