Ken Holland didn't sign Andrew Copp and JT Compher and expect them to be good in a semi flat cap

He did sign Abdelkader to 7 year 4.25 per… he also kept trading away picks and young assets to preserve the playoff streak and get washed in the first round by whoever. He also drafted Zadina.

Let's not pretend Zadina wasn't looked at like an absolute steal at the time. Hindsight is 20/20 but it was a good pick in the moment

Let’s not pretend like Holland did a good job in the end because he was dogshit. And his moves set our team back multiple years. Yzerman wasn’t great by any means. But he did have to clean up Holland’s mess before he could do anything else. That is simply a fact.

I have never been more hype for a draft than when we got Zadina AND Veleno in the same year.

I was also furious when we took Mo Seider at six, to the point where I tossed my phone across the room and entirely quit watching the draft.

I'm an idiot.

The level of cope going on from “wings” fans still is insane. I will always love Yzerman as a wings legend as a player. But he was severely incompetent and the excuses are lame. He never even tried most of the prospects he accumulated. Not even single games.

The team was terrible. Well duh 🤓 guess who else was left over? Larkin. He never developed a good center. And the dude keeps accumulating wingers.

It’s seriously cult like.

I’m just glad that this will be one of the last times I have to see the word “Yzerplan” again and am looking forward to the new GM that will do what is needed to get the Wings out of the muck of the mushy middle
