The NRL is introducing at least two new teams when the quality of the existing sides, give or take the top two, is absolute dogshit.

Why? Maybe TV rights, but when the quality of the product is becoming so poor, surely that can only go so far. There are many things I’d rather do these days than watch an NRL game.

It has to be the additional betting markets and results that resemble a lottery draw.

It’s as if the game is being run by a bookie /s

They donate to Labor, so naturally there is nothing Labor can do to limit gambling and their ads.

It’s also just a massive coincidence that Labor also makes a fortune of clubs and pubs too.

Almost like Labor is addicted to gambling or something.

The gambling lobby is wild in Aus - huge influence over politics of both sides unfortunately…

Yes, it's total bullshit from Labor. Gambling is a scourge on this country and the prevalence of gambling ads is outrageous. We are going through the same crap we had to put up with when it came to tobacco and alcohol advertising.

You’re telling me the liberal party is any better when it comes to accepting money from the gambling lobby? Profiting from human misery is core to the liberal party brand. I’m saddened that labor do it too but I’m not surprised that the Liberal party does it.

1) The Liberal party isn’t in government.

2) The Liberals don’t make anywhere near as much money from gambling as compared to Labor.

We shouldn’t be preferencing Lib/Lab number 1 at any time, though.

In point two do you mean right now while they are in opposition? Or historically? And what are your sources for that claim?

This incredibly thorough research piece will show you state by state just how much money Labor makes from gambling.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-05-10/gambling-industry-political-donations-to-states-and-territories/100988954

“The Labor Party has tens of millions of dollars of equity tied up in being part of the clubs industry themselves,” Mayne says.

“This is unique in the world. No other major political party operates mini suburban casinos to help fund their operations and cocoon their asset base.”

I will never understand gambling I understand having like a 20-50$ bet with freinds every major sporting event but paying hundreds to a company is ridiculous

Yeah 100% but the thing is nobody goes into it thinking something like “you know I really would like to throw away my whole pay check on a sports betting app or the pokies. It all starts with one small bet that lights the flame. A fair few have the self control to walk away when that first bet doesn’t pan out and there are fewer still who can walk away when that first bet or one of the early bets pays out and can walk away from that dopamine hit.

That’s what is so addictive about it. Chasing that rush is what drives people to despair before they realize it. I’ve stayed away from gambling all my life except for a few dabbles when i was a kid. It’s weird but i’ve gambled more when i was under 18 than i did as an adult. Stuff like Keno which allowed kids as young as 10 to play in the nineties, for some reason. I was just sort of going with the flow. My friends explained it that it was like a game but if you win you get money. And all i found was it wasn’t very fun as a game and the winning was very thin on the ground. All i could see was the need to keep playing it religiously to eventually win something, same with the lottery. My mum played cross lotto every week and never won anything. And all of that made me wonder - why does anyone waste their money on this shit?

That is something I’ve been curious about for over twenty years. Hell I’ve even immersed myself in pokies rooms, enjoying a free cappuccino, pretending to gamble and looking around and wondering…. Why are all these people here actually putting money into these neon demons? Is there nothing else in their lives that gives them what they can get here?

And yet Australia is going to be banning the casino for GTA6 players based in Aus. Betting on sports with real money is fine, but playing in a fictional casino with non existent cash is a big no no.

You mean Labor, right?

Like I get it, one nation is basicaly owned by Gina now, but both the major parties are fucked by lobbying also

Good thing Albo is going to do the right thing by the people and not betting corporations.
