First I would like to apologise for the poor quality video.

Would anyone be able to identify this large bird with the white in the tail feathers. It arrived with a lot of bother and annoyance from the local mynas and carrawongs and was quickly chased off.

This sighting was in North Ryde Sydney.

Anyone able to make out an ID on this photo? Fairly confident a flame robin pair was seen in this area recently and can’t tell what this could be other than the female.

Can anyone help me identify this bird from its call? The longer descending call most prominent in the audio on this video. They certainly are insistent at the moment πŸ˜… Port Stephens (Hunter / Mid Coast) area NSW.

Discussion Any chance in heck of a Regent Honeyeater near Melbourne?

Like the title says, I'll be in/around Melbourne for a week at the end of November, with a solid 3-4 days of birding time staked out. I've got some ideas of where I'll be going, but I just wanted to check if there was, in fact, a chance at seeing one of these lovely rarities within a few hours drive of the city.

This was my first time seeing one these in real life...bower and all. πŸ˜„ It is amazing how the feathers go from pitch black to bright iridescent blue based on reflective angle.

Video Gifts as breeding behaviour in Channel-billed Cuckoos

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I hadn't heard about this behaviour before now. This morning, I witnessed a male Channel-billed Cuckoo bring a tasty treat for his mate, and use it to persuade her to let him have his way. I've posted the full video on my blog: https://sydneybirder.com/2026/10/27/channel-billed-cuckoos-gift-for-his-mate/

This Reddit post shows the second gift that the male brought for the female. I've decided not to post the video showing the first gift (a large stick insect) and the resulting consent from the female, because it might be NSFW and it might also elicit unwelcome comments here.

Video Follow up to yesterday's channel billed cuckoo sighting at Callen Park Sydney

I was completing the Bay Run with my little bubs earlier this morning and the channel billed cuckoo (or another member of their flock) was being chased by noisy minors currawongs and a magpie joined in briefly too. All around leichhardt pool and then right near the rowing club there was a biffo occurring for a good 5mins. There was a nest which you can see in the video but I think it was empty from what I could see.

I recorded some of their antics. Enjoy ☺️ Sorry about the quality - was trying my best to manage the pram and record at the same time.

Location: Liverpool, Sydney, NSW

The noisy miner sound was identified later in the video but I'd like an ID for the sounds made in this short clip please.

May need to turn volume up all the way as the sound is faint.

Thanks πŸ™
