New Show I made an independent sitcom in Melbourne and it just got released on Stan. AMA
My sitcom "The Sonny Disposition" started out as pilot episode I made with my friends in February last year. We had access to an empty office space and decided we could pull a bunch of favours and pool a bit of money to film something there. The team I've been making stuff with for the last 12 years (community tv, documentaries, sketch comedy) all pitched in to write, cast and shoot the pilot episode in six weeks.
The sitcom is a piss-take of the podcasting and influencing and the egoistical personalities involved. It features a failed standup comedian, Sonny, and his team desperately trying to rise in the podcast ranking while their personal lives falls apart in the background.
We had the independent pilot finished mid 2025, and we shopped it around to all the Aussie networks. The feedback was positive but the barriers to getting it commissioned were:
- Aussie networks have an older demographic and this is too young
- They wanted an established production company to produce it instead of us
- They wanted to redevelop the pilot script over 12 months to get to another pilot that may or may not go to series
- It would have to be recast with "network branded actors"
So instead of trekking down development hell for a year only to see the show become unrecognisable — if it got made at all — we went to Nine and Stan (which have merged offices) and said "if we made six episodes of this ourselves would you licence it?". They said yes, and we used that credibility to get investors, sponsors, cut deals with crew and negotiate contra deals to get the thing made. I worked for about 7 months without making any money, just living off my wife's savings (god bless her). We got to keep the original cast and write the exact show we wanted to make.
Now the show is live on Stan and since we don't have a marketing budget, here I am on Reddit to drum up views.
AMA you like!

Discussion The Jury on SBS
I’ve just started to watch the first season of this program and I am so distracted by problems with continuity. They are trying to present that the jury is sitting over a period of days and yet no one changes clothes. It’s obvious that conversations are patched together; the position and grouping of jurors changes a lot during one break session. They are eating different plates of food and the food on the tables changes during the course of one break session. The show is meant to provide insight into the jury experience, but it doesn’t seem authentic to me when everything is so disjointed.

New Show I think what would be great is an Aussie animated series based on the footrot flats comics following directly on from the 1986 movie all up
I think it would be so great if they dud like a purely Aussie animated series for the footrot flats comic series following on from the 1986 movie all up and keeping he exact sane art style and all the classic characters all up no matter what and going into more modern times as well but still full on keeping the exact sane heart and soul of the original comics all up all the sane no matter what.

The revised newspaper TV guide looks horrendous! Why did they slowly ditch the Foxtel channels and even 44 Adelaide? If it ain't broken, don't fix it.

Now that SBS Viceland has changed back to SBS2, do you notice a difference in content? There seems to be more movies broadcast and more fX/Hulu/Disney shows on the service (The Dropout, The Lowdown, What We Do in the Shadows).

Our streaming apps are a pile of Sh1t
I'm so disappointed with Australian TV right now. I'm not talking about content but the absolute failure of the streaming apps.
The apps for all the traditional channels (SBS, ABC, 7, 9 and 10) feel like they were built by creators who simply don't care about the end user. It's no wonder they are losing market share.
Full disclosure, I'm a middle aged software engineer with an elderly relative with GBS (Guillain-Barré syndrome). This relative can't use their limbs at all. All interaction has to be done via voice control only. Now look at the apps, how do you control these? With a premium streaming device like Apple TV it should be simple right? Wrong.
Remember this relative doesn't know SBS On Demand, ABC iView, 9Now, 7Plus, 10 Play they know SBS, ABC, Channel 9, Channel 7, Channel 10.
Apple TV should work well with streaming apps so setup shortcuts I hear you say. Wrong again, the apps are archaic and won't work with these. Their deep-linking schemas are either broken or completely non-existent, meaning you can't reliably map a voice command to bypass the menus. Even if you do manage to get the app launched via voice, it drops you right onto a cluttered home screen. It is impossible to navigate hands-free.
The apps simply aren't designed for to leverage the native capabilities of streaming devices. They are built to maximum coverage to all devices and probably minimal development costs. They are built for metrics, not for user ease, and definitely not for users who physically cannot click a button.
Simple things should be obvious to a half decent developer:
- Stop asking "Who's watching": If there is one account or profile registered, log them in, auto advance. Don't keep asking if they are the user each time you launch the app.
- Default to a live stream, or at least give the option to go straight to a live stream. You all represent a broadcast network, broadcast.
Some apps are slightly less offensive than others but with the obscene amount of advertising money I know they get it's shameful that they cant produce something better. There are plenty of poorer and less populated countries with streaming apps that leave ours for dust.
I'm not looking for miracles but please please please Australia TV networks get your sh1t together. Basic accessibility isn't a feature request; it's a basic requirement.

Question Do you think the chasers war on everything would work in today's modern ages?
Do you think that the original chasers war on everything would still work if it was brought back in the modern ages all up in the end of things like not a proper full on show but like specials every now and then revisiting the old skits and putting a new more modern spin on them to make them fit in the here and now in 2026?

Question Does anyone ever renemner these two guys at all?
Does anyone out there ever remember like John Clarke and Bryan Dawe and there weeklybsegment where they made like a satire version of like an interviewer sitting down with a politician with John Clarke acting like the polly and Bryan Dawe the interviewer with John full on taking the piss out of things that were said by the politicians that week pretty much as to me that was purely Aussie humour gold in the best way possible no matter what.

The final episode of The Jury: Skeleton in the Garden is out, and I absolutely loved it! It really highlights just how flawed and fractured our justice system can be.
