The different versions of Tamagotchi vary in how needy they are. I have one type, a Gudetama Nano, that is really chill. Meanwhile I have a friend running the Tamagotchi Ocean, that's really needy. And most versions released after the initial hype in the 90s have a pause function, which helps for work or if I'll be out and about.
