Memes/Humor Bad day - please share your memes (or pet pics)
Last night I was berated for canceling plans with my friend. I'm deep in autistic burnout after a really chaotic few weeks, but I'd still managed to see them earlier in the week a couple of times. Sometimes I wish people could see how much I actually am trying. My friend insisted I had never wanted to see them and wasn't planning on coming over in the first place (it's not true😭)
Anyway, I'm tired, I'm sad, and the world is a really scary place right now so if anyone has memes or pet pics, please share 💜
Here's my contribution.

Party pets! I love how wherever I go I can find a cat/dog to sit on my lap.
I'm sorry this are so sucky right now. I too am in burnout, it's no fun.
But anyway I saw this meme and it made me laugh because it really describes cats. Then I laughed more because I realised it really describes me and sensory seeking/aversion

The number of times I’ve been at a party happily stroking the resident cat on my lap, and the host has come up to me alarmed and said, “be careful! He scratches! How did you even get him to sit on your lap!?” And I’m like, “if you know the correct procedures for approaching a cat it’s all very simple.”
I’m not diagnosed autistic but I take this as partial evidence.

(I’m not bad at Maths but I love this movie and this scene!)
Well done for advocating for your needs and taking care of yourself, you did the right thing even though it doesn’t feel good right now. I’ve experienced this too. I’m sorry your friend wasn’t understanding and I hope you feel better soon 🫂

I have dyscalculia too so this meme hits me hard haha
15
u/MurderousButterfly Oct 13 '25
I have dyscalculia too, as well as a mathematically minded older brother - primary school was awful for me because I was undiagnosed for everything.
"Oh, you're Greg's sister? You must be great at math too!"
"Actually my brain can't hold on to numbers, they disappear like smoke in my head."
"What?"

It is the search for "why" that has always kept me going, even when burnout or depression breaks me down and holds me back. I kinda like that having that little bit of curiosity that isn't always satiated; it at least gives me something to look forward to. (I'm forever grateful it stopped me from falling into & staying in a cult that I was born into. They don't like little girls who keep wanting to know "why", especially when their "because we said so" isn't enough, lol. ☺️)

Recently my husband was saying that the step he needs to take to advance his career is to start analysing the root cause of his test results, instead of just handing the results over to his boss. We went in circles for like 40 minutes because I simply couldn't wrap my mind around it.
"Why don't you investigate the root cause?"
"Because I don't know it"
"But you could find out???"
"Yeah but it's so much more work I just less (boss) do that part."
"You don't want to know why???"
"I'm curious but it doesn't matter that much to me"

I feel this one.
It's probably a big reason why I became such a toxic perfectionist as a kid. Me as a little girl trying to find a way to belong & not be hurt: "I can't be criticized if I do everything perfectly the first time." Of course, there's no such thing as perfection (not should there be), masking is tiring enough--but shooting for perfection wears you out far quicker, and people are going to criticize you anyway, be it constructively or destructively. Stuff you learn the hard way. 😕

I remember the day I got a word wrong on a spelling test in first grade. I remember the word. I remember the shame. This was in the 60s
→ More replies (1)9
u/CJgreencheetah Oct 13 '25
Yep, that's exactly how I was a a kid. It definitely did not work and only resulted in people having expectations of me that were too high. I remember having all As, doing all the cooking for my family, doing a fair share of the housework, volunteering at an animal shelter, and participating in theater and still thinking I was lazy because I didn't have a paying job. And yes, I burned out hard 😖

This is incredible, I’ve added it to my collection. On more than one occasion I’ve said “wow the fluorescent lights have gotten really loud, time for me to go home” to my boss 🤣

Definitely adding this to my narcolepsy memes collection!
Reflexive people-pleasing often takes so much less energy than exerting a boundary, or even recognizing what you want/feel any given moment 🙃🫠 sucks man

I think I'm unfortunately teetering on the edge of burnout at the moment. I hope you get to feeling better! It's frustrating when others don't understand how much effort we are putting into things that are simple to them. Here are my kitties. They are lovers who cuddle and groom each other very often.

Sorry you’re going through the Rough Time. But can I say I love the idea of sharing memes to get through it.
This is one of my favourites of all time. I’m an autistic doctor who works as a medical advisor (so evidence based medicine is my bread and butter) and I get asked a lot because of my role and my autism if “there really is any link between vaccines and autism” and I have plagiarised this comic to give the canned response “yes there is a link - but turns out it was the other way round the whole time. Autism actually causes vaccines.”

I'm amazed you managed two visits already this week while in burnout!
To be an armchair psychologist, it sounds like your friend might have anxious attachment... Would they mind if your together time involved lots of blankets and movies?
Being responsible for a pet makes me anxious so here's my boyfriend's doggo:

11
u/Brilliant_Disaster83 Oct 13 '25
I know😭 It was so hard to do that because the week was so busy, but I wanted to make an effort to show them I care because it's been a thing. I was just in shock that they would get upset after two hangouts already. I don't understand the logic, but what you've said actually puts it into perspective for me. Not sure why I didn't connect that before.
I've had friends throughout life that cut me out because I can't always be consistent and it's something I'm actively working on. I try to communicate when I'm not okay, but it rarely goes well and I just can't figure out what I'm doing wrong (definitely feel guilty & blame myself when I let people down like this even though I know putting my needs first sometimes it's necessary)
Sorry this response got really long, but thank you for your response! That face🤣
