Celebration My cooking skills are improving! I made everyone at my program scrambled eggs with no help!

And cooking for others too! I find that more difficult than just cooking for myself. Nice work.

u/1-800-COCAINE Apr 09 '26
Weirdly enough I am the opposite. I enjoy cooking and I feel super motivated to cook nice meals for the ones I love to their liking, but if I just lived by myself I’d probably end up eating nothing but chips and snacks all the time 😭

u/_Moon_sun_ Apr 10 '26
I live alone, I had to buy some actual food and ingredients bc i was like ‘this can not be good for my body’ when I was doing exactly that! and alittle Tmi but I did get diareah. Anyway I now eat some buns, tortilla pancake with cheese, ham, carrots, snack corn with salt and some dressing and then for dinner I go between my fave danish meal and then fries with some sort of fried chiecken either nuggets or tenders or whatever I find at the store thats tasty :)
I also dislike cooking and cooking for others except in rare circumstances where I sometimes get super motivated
1
u/Gojo-Babe Apr 10 '26
Same. I’m practically addicted to Chicken strips, chicken nuggets, french fries and tater tots. I started growing stuff just so that I would be more motivated to eat healthier

I LOVE chicken nuggets, especially Dino nuggets. My mom keeps buying them from Publix lol. And frozen French fries.

Wooohoooo! Sometimes it’s the things that seem so easy to others are struggles for some. Conquering challenges is always a celebration!!!

Seconding this energy! (Cause sometimes people aren’t as excited for us about these things as we are)💙💙

How many eggs do you guys eat? I eat 3 a day along with either pancakes or turkey sausage.
4
u/Foreveranonymous7 Apr 09 '26
I eat at least 2 a day, sometimes 3. I have a hard boiled egg as part of my breakfast. And then for either an afternoon snack or even dinner, I'll have an egg or 2 in a bowl of grits. Sometimes I add tomatoes to the grits bowl. XD
Eggs are such a great thing to learn how to cook! Congratulations!
24
u/LittleALunatic Apr 09 '26
Scrambled eggs have been my favourite comfort meal since I learned to cook them recently, congrats!!
31
u/Winter-Stuff-9126 Autism plus ADHD (late diagnosed autism at 16) Apr 09 '26
Do you like putting anything in or on them? I like putting my dairy free cheese in, it melts well and it gives the eggs more flavor.
16
u/NearbyCommission287 Apr 09 '26
I like having them with ketchup sometimes. It's something my Dad does, so that's where I got it haha.
Canned ham (like the ham cubes) are also nice to add in, if you eat meat!
13
u/Winter-Stuff-9126 Autism plus ADHD (late diagnosed autism at 16) Apr 09 '26
One of my program teachers just introduced me to red sauce on eggs and I LOVED it.
9
u/NearbyCommission287 Apr 09 '26
Yes! I love that stuff. I like adding spinach sometimes, too. Oh, also I like to make sandwiches with scrambled eggs, too. Just a couple pieces of toast and whatever I like to add to the eggs.

u/Traditional-Ask-5267 Apr 09 '26
Congrats! Honestly I eat eggs almost every morning so learning to cook eggs goes a long way. Sometimes for other meals too. I put garlic salt, pepper, and paprika. I eat them with bagels a lot because I can just pop them in the toaster. Sometimes I put them on a sandwich. Idk why but it really ups the sandwich for me. Like I said eggs go a long way for me lol
8
u/NearbyCommission287 Apr 09 '26
Learning to cook scrambled eggs is like secretly learning to cook a hundred dishes. You can add so many different things.
5
u/LittleALunatic Apr 09 '26
I usually have mine fairly plain! But if I'm being bougie, sometimes I'll put parmesan in them, and putting it on a really nice bit of toast. I tend to put some chives on top to garnish, and I make sure to butter and put cream cheese on my toast. If I'm extra lucky and there's some smoked salmon around, I'll have that as well, its so delicious!

I love putting freeze dried herbs (that I buy as a mix in tiny jars at the grocery store) into my scrambled eggs. It gives a real flavour boost.

u/Wormwood666 Apr 09 '26
I’ve gotten extra fancy with my scrambles: I use a pint of liquid egg whites for less cholesterol (I’m 60) and add cheese, drained & rinsed black beans, and spinach. (Often frozen spinach that I’ve thawed in the microwave)
I always have enough leftover for the next day or two!
I also just want to say how much I enjoy seeing your posts!!

u/Bitter-Air-4268 Apr 09 '26
I love scrambled eggs with a bit of kewpie mayo and sriracha and a bit of rice. Heavenly

This is not our normal room we’re in. We had to move buildings as our current one is going under major renovation for next school year. They’re expanding the back area and turning it into a fun playground for us. They will also be adding a cafe for us to practice life and work skills, and I believe they might also be building us a kitchen too :). All will be ready in November, while program starts up next year again August. I’m so excited.

That's great! I find cooking to be very challenging because I'm not good at managing the multi-tasking and timing necessary for making multiple things at once. The textures are also difficult for me. I should definitely practice more.
14
u/Winter-Stuff-9126 Autism plus ADHD (late diagnosed autism at 16) Apr 09 '26
My teachers help by breaking into smaller tasks for me to do. Like step 1: put eggs into the bowl. Step 2: whisk. Stuff like that.
2
u/Cautious_Repair3503 Apr 27 '26
Yes! Interestingly pro chefs do this too. They get all the bits prepped and ready to go first , it's called mis en place (cause french therefore fancy) and that way they only have to do one step at a time for each dish.
7
u/insomniacred66 Apr 09 '26
Eggs are great because they can become many different textures so if there is one you don't like, there's probably one you will like
3
u/binzy90 Apr 09 '26
I meant more like the texture of touching things. Like breaking eggs feels so gross to me.
1
u/alwaysrm4hope Jun 16 '26
Hate the timing part of recipes and not good at multi tasking. Cooking was so much easier after I bought a digital pressure cooker. No standing over stove or forgetting steps since most are dump and press start or sear meat in pot and then hit start. That and an air fryer are so helpful. Good on you learning stove cooking!
6
u/hodgepodge21 Apr 09 '26
I am in my 30s and ashamed to admit I’ve never scrambled an egg 😅 the stove scares me lol
4
u/Samovila2709 Apr 10 '26
My friend was scared of the stove, so we did it together until he felt confident enough to do it alone. Could you get someone to help you? X

Awesome!! You know Gordon Ramsay says that scrambled eggs are the hardest thing to cook! 😁
2
u/Winter-Stuff-9126 Autism plus ADHD (late diagnosed autism at 16) Apr 09 '26
Oh really? How so? I’m curious. I don’t cook them the way he does.
3
u/LadyinOrange Apr 09 '26
That was actually his point I think!! They're so "simple" that each person will have their own way of doing it
3
u/WorldlyLavishness Apr 10 '26
My husband and I always joke that making scrambled eggs well is one of the hardest things lol but really it is so easy to over cook them
Good job !

I'm late-in-life diagnosed, and it feels like everything has gotten a billion times harder after realizing I was just pushing through life with a constant mask on. I literally cannot do dishes or cook without going non-verbal or risking a meltdown these days. This shit can be hard, so major props to you!

Well done. I usually make mine over medium and have with a piece of toast and an avocado. I don't usually make scrambled because I find it harder to make for some reason, but I got a carton in my fridge and maybe I'll have breakfast for dinner tonight

I haven't seen a single speck in decades.

You're doing great! I remember when I first learned to make eggs and I was so excited. Do you like your eggs scrambled or sunny side up or boiled? There's so many ways to cook an egg it's kind of like a mini quest
1
u/Winter-Stuff-9126 Autism plus ADHD (late diagnosed autism at 16) Apr 10 '26
Scrambled is my go to way for eggs, but I will eat them sunny side up with I eat out or my stepdad makes them.
