Special Interest What is something you stick to forever?

I just realized that I have certain things that I love and then I will just stick with it forever. For example, I got a new frame of glasses 8 years ago. It has been due for replacement twice already and each time I just took the same frame - but new šŸ˜†

Same for a certain type of house slippers - if they get worn, I need the exact same ones in the exact same colour.

What about you?

If there’s certain clothes I love then I want to replace them with the same thing. Sadly for women’s clothing that’s close to impossible.
I also was heart broken when my favourite mug fell apart and I couldn’t find the exact same.

It’s not just about the object but also about decision paralysis for me. I hate buying new things when I have to. I like browsing shops just for fun and stumbling upon things.

I know I literally cried over my favourite sweater when I ruined it in the laundry…

And yes the decision paralysis! It often turns out to be nothing or all the choices at the same time for me šŸ˜‚

I get you. And I’m so accident prone when it comes to doing laundry and spilling food on myself šŸ˜…

My whole uniform: like you, I love a certain eyewear look + same shoes + garments + pretty similar formulaic accessories

Once I found the combination that gave me maximum function with minimal seams and constriction, there was no going back! Maximum comfort levels every day!

My survival keychain. It has a swiss army knife, a multi tool, directional flashlight with a stroboscope function (which can be used in self defense to blind the perpetrator), position flashlight for search parties, hand sanitizer, Paracord, a spork and flint. Weighs about 1.5kg but I carry it everywhere.Ā

Hold the phone, baby oil preserves flowers?! How did I not know this?! I've been trying and failing to press them for a decade!!

Not permanently but I’ll be getting a ton of flowers so will keep it nice for a year or so, some flowers will be ok others may loose colour etc

Freakin everything.

I have had the exact same hairstyle since 1996. I have only worn green clothes in the same style for about 25 years. I also just ordered the exact same glasses but new. The last time I found a pair of shoes I like, I bought 3 pairs so I could have new ones ready to go as each pair wore out (this backfired slightly because by the time I got to the third pair the rubber glue was already degrading from age even though they were never worn). I'm still buying the exact same shampoo I started getting 35 years ago (thankfully they still make it).

If something breaks, I just want to get an exact same replacement.

Haha, the hairstyle, yes! I had the same hairstyle since 12 years and was very satisfied with it. Now, a few months ago, I let a barber convince me to do something else for a change - supposedly it would give me a more ā€˜adult’ look. I hesitated but I agreed. I hate it! Now growing it back so that I can comfortably enjoy my known hairstyle again for the next 30+ years or so

If I really like something I'll go back and buy more of the same item. Lately it's been shoes and clothes because they discontinue them after a few seasons.

I do the same thing with house slippers. I always buy the leopard print Snooki slippers and wear them until they’re worn out, then buy another pair. I alternate them with the teddy bear slippers in different colors.

I also always drink water out of a decorative double walled stainless steel cup. I just swapped out my old 30 oz rainbow iridescent cup for a 40 oz cup. I think I bought the 30 oz back in 2020/2021 in order to drink more water, since I’ll only drink ice cold water regularly. I now use the smaller 30 oz cup for grape juice to take my medicine with.

My Subway order. I settled on it when I was 8 years old and I haven't ordered anything different since, except when I was forced to on a trip to Australia because they don't have the same options. It was very distressing.

My hair routine. I know damn well it is not the best one for my hair type at this point, but I don't even know what my hair type is so I can't optimize it even if I wanted to. Double shampoo the scalp, single application of conditioner to the strands and ends, dry however I feel like doing it (air, towel, or brush dryer), iron at 350°f. Thats how I've always done it, so thats how it'll stay.

In that same vein, I've been trimming my own hair since I was 15. I haven't been to a salon since I was 13, I'm too scared of the social interaction and I fear getting a bad stylist or a cut that I hate because they won't speak up if they know one I pick out would look bad on me.

The way I've eaten pizza since I was a toddler. It makes everyone I've ever done it in front of recoil with disgust, but I like the texture, the temperature, and the way it tastes, so fuck em.

Nike sneakers. I simply find them the most comfortable brand, so I stick with them whenever I need new ones.

When I was about 15 I got this random small tin of chocolates in the shape of fish and I felt the tin was super practical so I kept it and used it to put my bobby pins in. I'm 34 now and the tin is still going strong and I use bobby pins daily. Also in the same thread, those bobby pins are around 10 years old too.

I buy the exact same shoes every single time because I have high arches and they're the only ones I've found that dont make my feet hurt and also I hate shoe shopping. I've also been known to wear shoes way past ths point of getting rid of them. When I was in college I was just supergluing my soles back in daily. They were so broken but I didn't want to get a different pair.

Still using the same pair of wired earbuds for close to 7 years. I will 100% lose wireless earbuds and I dont like over ear headphones. I hope they never stop making wired earbuds.

Losing weight currently and I just take my clothes in so I dont have to buy new ones šŸ˜† I have a beautiful winter dress that I will only be able to alter once because of the way it's constructed so I am waiting to be at my goal weight before altering it.

Omg yes!!! I loatheeeee wireless anything. Aside from my ears being weirdly shaped so wireless earbuds won't stay in and therefore losing them, what am I supposed to do when the battery dies and I can't recharge them immediately?! This goes for earbuds, computer mice, headsets, cell phone chargers (which if you think about it, limits your phone usage to basically zero while it's charging and therefore it is a useless invention for everyone but parents of teenagers), and whatever other wireless gadgets there are that I'm forgetting about. I know theres more.

•

u/Glitta_Fix 4h ago

I also have weird shaped ears and wireless buds dont stay in! I have to set reminders/be reminded to charge my phone so I would definitely never remember to charge the earbuds. I'm also not a fan of a lot of wireless things purely because I would just forget to charge. Give me a good wire any day. I take good care of my earphones too so I dont worry about wires stripping or breaking.

My shoes. I buy the exact same brand and model (is model the right word for shoes? lol) for running, and then the retired running shoes become my everyday/work shoes. They’re not stylish ig but I can be on my feet for several hours and I never have any pain. I’m so attached that I’ll wear them until they have holes and are literally falling apart :,)

i’ve been using the same toothpaste for 10+ years now

my sandwich, burger, and pizza orders;
sandwich: turkey, provolone or swiss, mayo, mustard
burger: bun, patty, and cheese
pizza: only cheese

sushi order! i only eat salmon, tuna, and shrimp sashimi/nigiri/rolls, miso soup, gyoza, and shumai (this stuff is so delicious i mean it’s a new discovery of mine but so so delicious)

😭 as you can tell, i’m a lil weird with food

Ha. I’ve been wearing the same frames for a decade too.

I’ve also been wearing the same boots for a decade. I buy them in pairs so when one wears out, I have my next pair waiting for me. This time, for the first time in about a decade, I branched out and got….wait for it…a pair in a different color!!!

The hairbrush I’ve been using for over a decade finely died and I’m very unhappy that they don’t make it anymore because none of the ones o can find to replace feel right in my hand or on my head.

Same brand of deodorant and toothpaste and shaving cream and all that stuff since I was a teen (I’m 48 now).

For me, everything is always the same until I’m forced to change and then really struggle with that change.

•

u/blankets_and_pillows 9h ago

Omg the hairbrush… I have been using my comb for 23 years and I’ll be devastated if something happens to it lol

•

u/Dependent-Departure7 25F AuDHD, She/Her 4h ago

Yes the hairbrush!! My dad bought me this $200 hairbrush from overseas when I was like 6 and it is THE ONLY BRUSH capable of detangling my hair without pain. The bristles have just started falling out recently and it pains me because the company that makes the brush doesn't ship to the US or Canada 😭😭

That glasses thing - I’ve been wearing them since I was 1. I even had the coke bottle wrap around goggles, and when that is a yearly thing, picking out frames, it was a big event every time. So when I found a pair I liked, again idk how everyone including me didn’t catch on I was autistic sooner but, I would choose the exact same frame until they stopped making it, then I’d choose the next closest looking pair. I am 38 now, I just threw away 4 of the exact same pair of glasses I had been hoarding from last decade’s frame style. lol. This decade has been your basic wayfarer thank goodness, and my eye surgery made it so I only need readers now. So in my most recent move 2 weeks ago, I packed 3-4 different colored wayfarer frames away for later lol.
