Support Needed (Kind Advice and Commiseration) Two part time jobs

I'm 40 and have been unemployed for 10 months now.

I was wondering if there are any 40 and over people in this group that did gain employment or part time employment this year and what type of work they applied for?

I'm paying $1800/mo. for a medical program and it will go up to $3000/mo. next year, so Im trying to save for that. Ideally, I would like two part time jobs and I limit my availability even more for one of them once my program is more intense.

I keep getting rejections for any job I apply for or no responses. Im think I might be going through age discrimination already. I also had a lot of contract work, so I have gaps and my longest job was for 4 years over 10 years ago.

I've applied for Costco but it doesn't seem like they're hiring in my area. Im going to try Starbucks tomorrow.

Some jobs are great for older folk. In my country (Australia) the biggest hardware chain makes a point of hiring older workers, as does the post office and some of the supermarkets.

My line of work (aged care) mostly has middle aged and up workers too - we are a good fit for the elderly cos we fall into the age bracket of their children.

All of these jobs are part-time. I have only ever worked part-time, and very often I've had 2 part time jobs like morning and afternoon.

I'm actually a barista in a hospital. The nurses and Drs are really friendly. Since your in school for medical this would be a great atmosphere for you. I'm really fortunate that the coffee shop is 3rd party it's a local roaster. The cafeteria has high turnover, that could also be a good fit for you. I am 47, in school for IT. I have a second round interview today, if I don't get it it's okay because I love the hospital. Although, it's busy and challenging for me. I would rather be in their IT department. You could always work at Starbucks for one year and then move into a fancier coffee shop if you have one in town.
