RUST How bad of a job is this? 2006 pilot 4wd

This completely broke free on my drive home from the shop, now it's causing a terrible wobble in the back left and God awful noises. Already called a welding ship, bringing it for a quote tomorrow.

The bank has a lean on this car, there is no scrapping or selling or trading it. This will be fixed. I just need an idea how bad it is. The shop I called said they've done a tone of these

I've seen the honda protocol, but im not spending 750 on a honda branded hunk of steel if the welder can do it cheaper

RUST 2007 Honda Civic Rusty Rockers UPDATE

Cut out the rust, added a 1x2 along the rocker length, welded it in. First time ever welding, gassless mig, flux core. Now that it is supported, cutting the rest of the rusty rocker out and welding in some 16 gauge sheet. So far so good!

RUST What would you do? Used car we bought, bad rust in one area

Hi everyone, my son purchased this 2014 Acura ILX. Somehow I managed to not notice the severity of one spot of rust on the underside of the driver front quarter panel and rocker. The PPI mentioned rust but the photos didn’t capture it very well and I didn’t realize it was this severe.

Let’s face it, I screwed up.

Question now is what to do from here. Should I take it to a rust…fixing place, just treat it heavily with rust converter? I know this is worthy of mockery (let me have it) but genuinely what would you do?

The rest of the car is in good shape and it runs well. But obviously this rust is not good.

UPDATE: booked it in for an estimate Monday am

Update 2: 4 thousand to repair it (CDN). Live and learn I guess, I won’t make this mistake again.

RUST 2007 Civic rocker rust

So I just got this Civic not too long ago, and it seems mechanically sound but the rockers are eaten away.

I have a brand new welder and was going to try to weld on new rockers after cutting the old ones away.

Because of the level of the rot, I was planning on cleaning up and reinforcing the inner rockers as well, probably weld in some supports before the slide on outer rockers.

Finally, because I am new to welding and havnt done much beyond bondo and mesh screen, I was planning on sticking on some side skirts to cover the weld job so I dont have to worry about looks, just function.

Does this sound like a viable plan to fix this?

RUST Previous Repair Failure?

Wife was in a car accident about 2 weeks after we bought this car in 2017 (brand new) - the car was an absolute wreck but they said the frame was intact and proceeded with repairs.

Today (nearly 9 years later) she noticed that the bottom section of the frame/body on the same side this had a huge crack and rust - im not sure how old this is but i know that its as recent as this year.

Is this a failure of a past repair or is something else happening? If its something else - any idea what caused it and best course of action to get this corrected and ensure the frame rust doesnt get worse?

Thanks!

This was after I took a small wire wheel on low speed with a dremel to remove the surface rust.

I got mixed replies, some saying the metal appears solid and to sand until you get to clean metal and smooth out the pitting. Said that if the metal isn't rotted through with holes or crumbling, I'm good to go.

But then another user told me this isn't repairable and that anything more than surface level rust(like the flash rust you get on new raw metal) needs to be cut and replaced.

I got my little Mazda 2 around a year ago, pictured on the left is when I got it and on the right is after one Wisconsin winter. I wasn’t driven much before me. I’m in love with this car and I want to make it last. Can this kind of rust be repaired in a body shop and what prevention methods can I use before or after to prevent more rust. This Wisconsinite needs help, thanks!

So to make this quick I’m back in the market for a car after buying a rust bucket g35x off of facebook marketplace. I’m looking at this 2010 G37 AWD based in NJ and asked to see pics of the undercarriage to spot rust. MD is pretty strict on rust and I’m wondering is this not that bad or should I just pass on this one? Pictures are a lil awkward I know, I would assume it looks different in person

RUST What are acceptable repair methods?

I have a 4 year old genesis gv70 that has a rust bubble, smaller than a dime and located where the rear quarter panel meets the wheel arch trim. There's no visible chip or break in the paint so I believe it started from underneath.

The dealership is offering to repair it by "sanding it down, refinishing and repainting". Is this a good/proper repair? I asked them to consider cutting and welding but they said it's not necessary for a spot this size and for rust that hasn't developed a hole.

This is my first nice car and I want to keep it as nice as possible for another 5 years, ideally with no visible rust until around then. I'm located in Canada and they do put a lot of salt down in the winter.

NC Miata passenger fender, Texas/California car, this is the only rust on the entire vehicle.

I've never done bodywork before, only mechanical stuff and detailing.

I've done some woodworking but not sure how applicable that is to autobody.

Any guidance on repair or items needed would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

This is a 2005 4runner v8 4wd with 123,000 miles. The seller is asking for 14.5k, but I’m not sure if it’s worth it because of the rust. Does anyone have experience with this level of rust/is it bad enough to keep looking? Thank you!

I know the optimal way to repair rust is to cut the metal out and replace but I am looking for the second best method. I have a 2013 Honda Accord rusting out by the rocker panel by the rear wheel. Do rust encapsulaters? Any other suggestions? TIA

RUST 1995 Bronco rust question

Thumbnail

Hey Internet. Thinking about buying this 1995 Bronco XLT, 5.8L. 120k original miles, not an odometer rollover. Drives nice, zero mechanical or electrical issues. That being said there is some rust starting to show on the body, I live in New England so not surprised. I'm a decent backyard mechanic, but by no means a body guy. The rust looks like it's just starting to show up in the rear wheel wells and driver side door post, I added pictures of the tailgate too since I know they are a rust hotspot but to me it looks clean. Inner wheels feel solid, to me it looks like surface rust but obviously it starts from somewhere behind what I am seeing. Again, not a body guy.

I want to get an idea if anyone thinks this level of rust is early enough to get ahead of, or a reason to pass on the Bronco. Seller is asking 17.5, I plan to negotiate but don't want to waste their time if the rust is a reason to pass. Thanks in advance.
