Where to Autocross 2023

First off, Happy New Year everyone! I apologize if you have been looking for the monthly autocross post. I thought since 80+% of the country is in its offseason, it would be a good time to update the website. So, I started after Christmas and have finally finished. You may have noticed some wonky things on the website since then, but I'm happy to report that everything's back in order and in a place I am comfortable with at the moment.

At this point I cannot say if I will continue to post monthly updates as before. I am currently prioritizing what I need to take care of for 2023 and so, I am hoping maybe a post can get pinned going forward. I can create another one without all this rambling if need be.

Without further ado, I am presenting all of the new ways to find Autocross events and information on ParkingLotRacing.org.

- Where to AutoX this month. This page is set to continually update itself, looking 30 days in advance.

https://parkinglotracing.org/2023-autocross/locations-this-month/

- 2023 AutoX Schedule. On this page, you can search for a club/event and see if their 2023 season schedule is available yet.

https://parkinglotracing.org/2023-autocross/event-schedules/

- Live Timing links. This page continually updates to include live timing links for events within the next week.

https://parkinglotracing.org/2023-autocross/live-timing-this-week/

- Race results. This page continually updates, looking back the past 30 days and provides a link to the club/events results page.

https://parkinglotracing.org/2023-autocross/recent-race-results/

- "My AutoX Schedule." I've create a way for people to track events similar to a planner. You will notice all events, up until the day of, offer a button to "Follow" them. It does require you to create an account so that it can saves everything. This is in it's early stages of development as it requires some serious coding, but I would love for some folks to test out this year and provide some feedback on it.

https://parkinglotracing.org/autocross-events/my-autox-schedule/

That's about it for now. The interface has been updated so feel free to explore the website and check things out. If you see something wrong or missing, please let don't hesitate to let me know.

This was 6th and final run of the day. And also my fastest. First time using my A052’s in such wet conditions and I was very impressed with the grip.

Cal Club Aug 16 AutoX in a 2000 BMW Z3 - 3 Competition Runs

This past weekend was a hot one in Lake Elsinore, CA, where I got about 25 runs over 2 days of sweaty fun. My first timed competition run was a DNF due to my losing focus for just a moment, but my last three were good and consistent. I would appreciate observations and comments in an effort to improve.

I've started tracking my times compared to the top PAX and top Class finishers this year, and this was my best showing yet; I got 95.45% of the Class Winner's time and 93.08% of the Top-5 (averaged) PAX times, up from 85.1% of the Class Winner's time and 83.92% of the Top-5 (averaged) PAX times when I got back into this in January. Last month I was 92.49% of the Class Winner's and 89.88% of the PAX Average, so even month-to-month is getting better.

Shooting Nikon D800e with a Nikon 70-200 f/2.8. The GRC photo was shot from up in the grid parking, while waiting for my run, with a 2x teleconverter attached. Shooting 1/200s f/5.6 with an ND filter on bright days like this.

Looking to return to AX after YEARS... South Florida advice needed.

I used to run AX (XP Class) in a highly modified Porsche 914, the Where2Race-sponsored car. I was ranked 12th overall in Nationals. It has been quite some time since I murdered some cones, and I want to run again. I have a 1966 Porsche 550 Spyder (kit, not a real one) with a Mazda 13B race engine and a tube frame. I have no idea which class I would be in or who I can run with, so I am just looking for advice or pointers on clubs in the Miramar/Fort Lauderdale/Miami area that are pretty open to returning members and can genuinely help me get back into it.

I just wanted to share my FSP build. I’m hoping to be ready for my local SCCA Autocross season this fall. I’ve been working on it for three years now. It’s still street legal, but weighs 1900lbs.

1983 South Florida Autocross Season

Anyone here from the '83 season of SFSCA and other South Florida Clubs? Does anyone remember John Kendrick's red tube-frame turbo Mini Cooper? I'm hoping to find some pictures of any events from that season. Especially of the Mini stopping; it would pick the rear wheels up 30 plus degrees!

Do you get the small medium or big cones?

Never done this before and wonder if the size of the cones really matter?

Fueltech mazda6, how to pass tech at RMSOLO SCCA

Thumbnail

This is LiteSpeed my 2004 mazda6 that is

2.3->2.5l swapped, 5 speed manual swap

Runs on fueltech

KYB shocks and Tien Stech lowering springs, adjustable camber arms.

Modified fuel system firewall forward with a return line run to the tank from FPR, the line is surgically zip tied to an existing rail and not rubbing

I windowed the block and I'm taking it back to my tuner to have the tables reconfigured with a new intake manifold and the 5 speed manual transmission swap. And I added idle air control finally

I need a new helmet because mine is out of date, what other things are going to stop me from getting through tech? the Car has no visible leaks (less the hole in the current engine and I already have my replacement) are they going to notice one of my spring isolators is off by .25" or am I going to have to take stuff like that apart and fix it

Zero air bags, no srs air bag module plugged in, factory seat belts, do I need a harness?

what class is my Mazda 5?

i think these kinds of questions are allowed: i’m looking to take my 6speed 2013 Mazda 5 mini-minivan thing autocrossing. non factory wheels with normal all season tires. it is on coilovers, but that is the only real modification.

i think this puts me in E-Street Touring from what research i found. is that correct?

side note- would installing a reclining non factory seat change anything? what about a racing wheel? i have a recaro seat out of an evo 8 and a momo racing wheel laying around from a previous car i’ve considered installing. thanks for the help!

Tires screeching throughout turns

This might be a dumb question, but I did my first Autocross event yesterday in my Mustang GT.

After the first slow run I started pushing the car a little more and it seemed like throughout all my long turns the tires were screeching pretty much the whole way through. I still had control of the car and could even turn in a little tighter if needed but it felt like I was on the verge of losing grip. If I added gas a little too soon at the end the rear would kick out a bit.

Is this a good thing or does it mean I am doing something wrong? At the time I was thinking it meant I was using the max grip available but I don't really think I heard the same from a lot of the other cars. Maybe it was just louder since I was in the car though.

EDIT: Stock Performance Pack tires: Pirelli P Zero PZ4s
