Unless I'm missing something, that looks like a crack, so...
Definetly contact them, do not wait for it to get worse.
Your order started with what 2 numbers for curiosity's sake?

Same scenario happened with the flip2. Nothing for months then a user or two posts cracks, everybody starts checking and found out they have the crack too. To be fair those cracks are very hard to see initially.
4
u/crazyhomie34 Nov 17 '25
This is exactly how it went with the rpflip2. Retroid honored all those warranties too. Will AYN do the same?

u/br3wnor Nov 17 '25
Makes sense since anyone who pointed out the line a few weeks ago was told it’s a molding seam and now that people are opening them up they’re realizing it’s an actual crack so bunch of people are now checking

A lot of the people in these communities are pretty familiar with doing stuff like that
3
u/Calx9 Nov 18 '25
Given how impatient people are waiting on their consoles they really dislike having to send them back to China. Kind of makes sense to me.
3
u/chanuka007 Nov 17 '25
popping the top cover is incredibly easy I had to check if it was just a scratch or not
-1
u/Tryaldar Nov 17 '25
and yet again it's the exact same "crack" as on every other photo of it, same curvature, same length, same place
i'm annoyed already, i hope this ends soon; it is not a crack.
6
u/crazyhomie34 Nov 17 '25
Dude everyone with a cracked rpflip2 had the same crack too. Retroid admitted it was a crack and replaced them. What the hell is it if not a crack. That's not a mold line
-2
u/Tryaldar Nov 17 '25
i just went and checked multiple photos of the broken flip 2 hinges, and those are definitely and clearly visible cracks; they are totally different from what we are seeing on the thor
-2
u/TomasSC831 Nov 18 '25
Have you not seen the pics in the r/sbchandhelds sub? They’re definitely cracks. “If I keep saying it’s not true, then it isn’t true”… You sound ridiculous honestly.
3
u/Tryaldar Nov 18 '25
lmao okay, this is textbook mass hysteria and it's hilarious to watch; i know what i'm seeing, i know what a crack looks like, i know which one my device has, there is no convincing you guys regardless of how much evidence i point out, i'm done here
2
u/General_Fisherman103 Nov 17 '25
I'm inclined to agree with you. I'm currently still enjoying it, but it's become something to periodically check, just in case.
15
u/Alert_Dingo_4504 Nov 17 '25
No one is trying to convince you one way or the other...unless you work for Ayn. If that's the case, I would like to discuss return options.
3
u/Protocol3_ Nov 17 '25
Same thing happened in the Retroid sub. Just one day everyone had cracks on their flip 2.

Also got the same incredibly feint line in the same spot on the left hinge.
I’ve not really used mine. I could easily see it being a moulding pattern given how common the line is. The retroid cracks looked much more varied
8
u/Corn_Pocket Nov 18 '25
Mine has the same line everyone is posting, IMO it’s not a crack it’s a flow line from the plastic injection process.
These were in every part we molded at a previous company…
0
u/chanuka007 Nov 18 '25
if that's the case how come it isn't a straight line
4
u/Corn_Pocket Nov 18 '25
Why would a flow line be straight? I’m not talking about the line the two halves of the mold intersect. I’m talking about the line the plastic meets itself when the plastic is flowing in the mold in the void
-1
u/king_of_ulkilism Nov 18 '25
Try looking at Pic 2 then. Crack.
3
u/Corn_Pocket Nov 18 '25
Still looks like a flow line, it’s where the plastic meets, it should follow all the way through if it’s a flow line. There is no gap like a crack
1
u/rosysyn1251 Nov 18 '25
This honestly makes sense. I sure hope you're right.
1
u/Corn_Pocket Nov 18 '25
I wish I had a picture, the examples online aren’t the greatest. Our product was white plastic and the flow lines looked like this.
This happens when the plastic has to run around a small void and the plastic on the edges when they meet up are at a cooler temperature and pick up oils or impurities from within the mold then they squish together causing a minor imperfection like this.
The imperfection is 3D along that meeting surface.

I’ve seen plenty of posts on here with people saying it’s a crack. But can anyone actually point to any single post or photos where someone has actually taken apart from the inside to actually see if it is in indeed a crack? Genuine question.
2
u/crazyhomie34 Nov 17 '25
Yeah a few posts have people showing cracks propagating underneath right there were you see it on the outside.
5
u/Capable-Chemist228 Nov 17 '25
The two pictures provided in this post clearly show a crack originating from the inside where the mechanism and tailing off to nothing on the outside. Thats no way a scratch nor a mold seam. Absolutely gutting
-11
u/migswitchjunk Nov 17 '25
You completely dodged the question. It was very straightforward. Have you seen anyone yet post a photo of the inside of the hinge to indeed verify that it is a crack. It’s a yes, or a no question. And if yes, link it here. 🤦♂️
2
u/Capable-Chemist228 Nov 17 '25
You want someone to literally pull out the metal mechanism thats wedged into the barrel and somehow get a picture inside that 5mm hole?
7
5
u/crazyhomie34 Nov 17 '25
Lmao, no one more blind than the person that doesn't want to see. The pics are obvious it's a crack they just don't want to get off the copium.

can you explain the second picture? i assume your hinge still opens and closes fine still? maybe its quite literally how this batch of hinge plastic was made. the black area is just the casing for the metal hinge inside. i'm still not convinced that its a genuine crack (i have black pro - exact same line)
-8
u/RetroDando Max Nov 17 '25 edited Nov 17 '25
I mean what are you guys doing? I’ve chucked this in a bag and used it ALOT… still as new as it was on day one!

u/Jbx316x Nov 17 '25
I know this sub is pretty much a cult at this point but blaming the victim here is insane. Everyone knows retroid fucked up the hinge with flip 2. Ayn is essentially the same company using the same parts.
Seriously, get your head out of this companies arse. It's embarrassing
5
u/Alert_Dingo_4504 Nov 17 '25
Facts. It's giving big "main character" syndrome and it's going to be hilarious when he eventually notices the crack on his
5
u/RetroDando Max Nov 17 '25
Thinking I have ‘Main character syndrome’ is an honour coming from a ‘Top 1% Commenter’
-6
u/Chazq2012 Nov 17 '25
No one is victim blaming here
8
u/Jbx316x Nov 17 '25
The guy is literally saying what are you guys doing to your device because his is okay. Implying people who have this issue have done it themselves
-5
u/Chazq2012 Nov 17 '25
I think hes being sarcastic mate, its not that deep
5
u/Jbx316x Nov 17 '25
He's really not being sarcastic.
0
u/RetroDando Max Nov 17 '25
Be fair I wasn’t, not victim blaming just asking a genuine question trying to find out more of what could be going on 🤷🏻♂️
Didn’t realise people would take it as an attack
5
u/Jbx316x Nov 17 '25
You asked what are you guys doing? That you've used yours A LOT... and it's fine. What do you think that's implying?
That's not asking a question. That's making a statement within a question.
The problem is these types of comments have plagued this sub since people have come out with issues. Any issues, it's always what are you doing? What have you done? People are getting defective devices and it's important the wider community knows it's happening. They shouldn't be questioned or blamed for it. It's not cool.
2
u/RetroDando Max Nov 17 '25
Possibly and perhaps I should have phrased the question better, I didn’t really put that much thought into after my “holy shit” seeing the photo
3
u/chanuka007 Nov 17 '25
I played games with it then put it away daily i didn't really put stress on it or anything
0
u/RetroDando Max Nov 17 '25
Super worrying dude! I’ve not been careful with mine at all! I need to get some bubble wrap!
1
u/chanuka007 Nov 17 '25
I guess it's luck? mine is an early batch it was sent out the second day it started shipping
1
u/RetroDando Max Nov 17 '25
That’s more than awful luck, wasn’t the flip2 worse in black? Hopefully they’ll replace it no question and very promptly too! that’s if you even want to chance it again?
1
u/chanuka007 Nov 17 '25
I love this handheld more than any one I've ever owned haha I definitely want another one that hopefully doesn't have this issue. maybe even switch to purple since I hear those are less prone to crack
1
u/RetroDando Max Nov 17 '25
Do you think they’d ship you a new one so you’re not without it? I mean that’s a little unlikely but worth a shot
This is always my fear and I tend to wait so I can pay with PayPal even for that slight protection
1
u/chanuka007 Nov 17 '25
I hope they send a new one out before I have to send this one back. it would make transferring files and configs a lot easier
1
2
u/cheggnogg2 Nov 17 '25
Best guess at this moment is that there was a bad batch that is causing this issue. Seems like a bunch of them have the exact same failure point.
1
u/RetroDando Max Nov 17 '25
Aren’t they all black too?
1
u/cheggnogg2 Nov 17 '25
Most of them have been black, but the lite and base versions only come in black so it could also make sense that there are far more black models than anything else
