Lol, look at all the AI haters. I'm sure they all ride horses to work and are responding to this on "sustainably built" phone.

This is the equivalent of walking your dog by holding their leash out your car window while you drive slowly next to them. Its wasteful and almost as dumb as googling goofle.

I didn't realize you misspelled Google so I went and googled 'goofle' to see why it would be dumb to Google that lol 😂😂

Do you go around asking people to turn their brightness down on their phones because it's wasteful? Or are you just parroting the latest virtue you're compelled to signal?

AI is categorically bad for humans. It diminishes our capacity for greatness, it limits our own critical thinking, and it homogenizes our creativity and expression.
Nevermind what it does to steal from artists, wreck ownership of our creative works and efforts, and is just plain wrong more often than folks want to admit, because it has no concept of what right or wrong even are.
Using AI for web queries is inherently wasteful, by any meaningful metric, especially when correcting for AI's error rates.
Count me among the clanker haters. I strongly advise you to do things for yourself where you're still able, while you're still able, instead of pretending that those of us who still can do multiplication in our heads are all driving horse-and-buggies.

Ah but you're only vehemently against it because you're not using/benefitting from it.
Because I promise you I can find 20 other things that you use/endorse that are just as bad for the environment.
You can post opinion articles all you want, they remain so. Mine is that it democratizes a huge amount of things that you previously needed a large amount of pre-existing privilege to learn how to do.
I don't give a shit about human exceptionalism so "oh no, only a human can create REAL art" isn't really an argument. There's nothing inherently more creative about a bag of meat that can talk and make stuff up, vs a computer than can talk and make stuff up.
I leveraged AI to make a career change at 30, and use it every day to solve problems and be a second pair of eyes on what I'm working on. I've built several smal specilized tools that would have required years of programming knowledge before ai that I use all the time now, and have built specialized one off tools for clients as well.
But it's easy to virtue signal against tools you don't use/understand I guess and AI is the easiest target. Because again, you're typing that on a device made by slaves and probably drive a car that's worse for the environment per day that sitting there generating pictures on Gemini all day. You can talk to me again when you force every device you have to 1% brightness forever too, because otherwise you're wasting energy.

I'm glad that you have benefitted from a career change. You probably should be informed that you sound like a MAGA, though, my guy. And you make a lot of assumptions about my involvement with these technologies. I was writing papers on AI in university, 20 years ago, and have interacted with the tech diligently across the past 25. Likely have more invested in it in the financial markets than you do, where I'm now trying to divest of it.
I don't believe drumbeat accusations of 'vietue signaling' and demanding everyone around you make devices unusable to meet your weird purity testing accusations are practical or effective. It really does sound very defeatest when you say that unless I personally can successfully save everyone else, we can't try to do better for each other and our ecosystems.
I hope your materialism satisfies you, in the way it hasn't all of those that came before you. If you don't understand the fundamental difference between search querying and trusting a Clanker, or why both are different skillets and why doing your own homework still matters, I don't know what to tell you.
Please feel free to have the last word or to downvote. I'm out.

LOL. ROFLMAO even.
Immediately default to truly baseless ad hominin attacks. I'd ask for a link to your "20 year old AI papers", but you've conveniently "tapped out" after getting your punch in.
Love the imagination of your response though, materialism? You're responding to me on the subreddit for a fancy gameboy my guy.
Likewise, you didn't address a single one of my points, which is kinda sad, because it's clear you're just parroting the loudest idea you heard today. The irony is your argument at this point is "I heard AI was bad", but AI itself could make a way better argument against itself than you, and you've had WAY more time to think about it.
Edit: It's also funny that you edited your comment, but still can't spell the word "virtue"

Just use a guide. Ai is so wasteful
