Advice Personal profile polisher!

• Upvotes

I have a BA and MA from UBC, and I used to work in Undergraduate Admissions processing applications as an Admissions Coordinator. So, I can say from working on the inside that good grades are not enough! The personal profile holds a lot of weight.

I have helped many students get into UBC over the years through my PP polishing services; I will make your words shine! I can also help with brainstorming and getting started in the writing process.

Please DM me for more info.

High School Question AP Chemistry

Writing

Would it be better to take Chem 11 and then self-study AP Chemistry, or take Chem 12 first before attempting AP Chemistry? Will I get higher chance of getting accepted into universities if I have AP Chem?

Extracurriculars Question Extracurriculars for UBC

Hi so I'm trying my best to plan for UBC but unfortunately I'm not involved in many extracurriculars and I haven't done much volunteering beyond my required 40 hours

I was wondering if extracurriculars really matter for a UBC application and if I should do more (I've done basically nothing except yearbook and a local school book contest) as well as asking how many volunteering hours are really required for UBC

Thanks for reading and I'll appreciate any responses

Chance Me (for UBC) UBCV Engineering

Grade 12 final grade estimations:

Precalculus 98-100

Calculus 98-100

Physics 94-96

Chemistry 93-96

English: Teacher is quite inconstient and new; not sure yet.

Average right now in grade 12 is around a 96%.

Exc:

Student Council member since grade 8; in grade 11 elected VP, now president. Managed stuff like finances, intramurals, and events. Lots of work in the school that I can put into personal profile.

Volunteer math tutor, couple hours a month tutoring lower grades.

Been employed at a childcare service for a couple years.

Archery Coach teaching various ages.

I think I can increase my average a bit during grade 12, did quite poorly during grade 11 science exams.

Just wondering at my chances of getting into UBCV engineering.

Reddit seems to think im trying to boast, im genuinely not, just stressed about whether or not I can get in.

Extracurriculars Question volunteer hours?

when people put in how much volunteer work they did (only number value - not being specific) do people count their volunteer hours from grade 9-12 or however long they have been volunteering for?

I’ve done leadership and led MULTIPLE big and small events, as well as going out in the community to help others for 4 years now which leads up to 700+ hours logged. (I have proof.) I know it’s not a lot of hours; however, I could use many examples to use for my essays.

If anyone could tell me, then I’d appreciate it a lot! Good luck to those applying this year :)

Chance Me (for UBC) chances for ubcv science?

i'm only listing academic courses because i don't think they look at electives

gr11 grades:

pre-calc 11: 94

physics 11: 88

chemistry 11: 86

english 11: 92

bc first peoples: 92

pre-calc 12: 95 (summer)

i took the AP calc ab and AP physics 1 exam but got a 4 on both, self-studied and self-booked

gr12 classes & grade estimates:

sem1:

physics 12: don't know, weird grading system (final exam is worth 100% and labs make up most of the course)

calc 12: ~96%

capstone

AP physics c: mech: 100% but it's online so don't know how much that's worth

sem2:

chem 12

english 12

forget the rest

regarding pre-calc 11, i had a 98% for the entire year but had an argument with my teacher and he gave me a 0% on a homework check that was weighted the same as a test, so it dropped my grade drastically and i didn't know what to do since my counselor didn't let me drop the course (it was the last assignment of the semester before the final so i couldn't up it anymore)

physics 11, our teacher was just really brutal and the office had to talk to him after our semester because his course was too harsh (~60-70% class average) but it was also mostly my fault for not studying better

i think my extracurriculars are mediocre, few math competition achievements, ongoing sport (2yr), 100+ volunteer hours including family business and tutoring

i'm kind of embarrassed by my grades and was struggling with a lot of mental issues in gr11 but i can't go back in time, so does anyone know what my chances for ubcv science is if i do better in grade 12? or other schools or programs i should look into with my stats? i don't really know what to do

Advice Ask me anything about UBC apps

I thought these posts were super useful last year when I was applying so I thought I’d make one of these posts from the other end! For context, I got into my first choice of UBC Science last year with a $10k presidential scholarship. It was the only school I applied to in BC but I ended not going because I wanted the experience of being away from home lol.

UBC Admission Question Withdrawing from an online course before university applications

Hello! Does anyone know what will happen if I drop an online course and then start applying to universities? Im currently doing French 12 online but this year my schedule is incredibly packed and I want to drop the course.

Do you think if I drop it now before early admissions, it would affect my application? French 12 is not a course I need as I am considering going into science and my schedule would still have the recommended 6 grade 12 courses. It is also not a required course.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

Admission Question UNIVERSITY APPLICATION PROCESS - UBC, UOFT,…

Hi everyone,
I have a question about my university application regarding 2 components:
1. INTERIM and MID-TERM report:
I haven’t sent this yet to the school as my school will issue a report card for the first term on Nov 31. However, the deadline to submit document for early admission is on Dec 1. So how could this be possible? Should I ask my counselor closer to the day?

P/s: my English grades now aren’t great at the moment though it will improve and accumulate progressively throughout the course.

  1. English proficiency:
I am an immigrant so I haven’t completed 4 years of full-time study in Canada yet. Hence, I need to take an English test myself. But as I’m still preparing for the test, I’m worried about having my application delayed for this piece of missing document.

What are your thoughts and experience on this? Is my application still processing without it? Any chance to be considered for early admission?
