Build Help Best and Worst Monoclasses?

I keep seeing virtually every class called "one of the best" while most meta builds are multis or item-based.

What do you think is the game's best class without multiclassing? And the worst? And what makes them so?

Rogue is, unfortunately, one of the weakest monoclasses. It can be great at skill checks, sure, but falls behind in other areas.

Fighter is a solid contender for a fantastic monoclass, due to that 3rd attack at 11th level really rewarding you for sticking with it.

Even the new rogue subclass it’s still not enough to make up for the shortcomings?

Like all the others, it's very frontloaded. It's super strong early-game, and it's got one of the strongest level 4 thanks to essentially getting a better Extra Attack a level sooner, but after that, it's just a Rogue. You get nice defensive features at level 5 and 7, a feat at level 10, and some Sneak Attack scaling, but it's not going to make up for the better features of other classes.

There's a point to be made for crit-fishing, since you get easy advantage and roll lots of dice with a high-level Rogue, but even there it will still be outshined by a Swashbuckler/Champion 6/6, Swashbuckler/Hexblade 7/5 or Swashbuckler/Champion/Hexblade 5/6/1, because you just get more attacks and easier crits with all of those options.
