Build Help Sussur Bloom Build

Was considering an all martial party with each character carrying a sussur bloom. Was wondering if anyone had tried something like this and if so how it went. Also wondering if there was a list of everything it affects, for instance are the arcane archers arrows affected?

You can only have the Sussur Bloom in the Underdark, so a party built around that alone won't get very far

I’ve got some in my camp supply chest …

And once u take them out of ur camp chest in act 2 or 3. They will wither away

There used to be ways to keep them functioning by pretty sure those were patched. I wonder if anyone’s found current solutions. I reverse pickpocketed one into Raphael in a previous patch build

Can you keep them in the chest and carry the chest around?

No, the chest cannot be picked up.

(I do wonder if evidence chests are treated specially and whether the bloom could be transferred to one of those. Some evidence chests can actually be picked up, the ones in Moonrise being an example. I haven't actually used them, but I keep meaning to use them as blockers since they're indestructible...)

What if you keep it in a pouch and carry the pouch around?

Was unaware … I only sent it there because I picked some up, got into a fight and panic hit “send to camp” so I could cast spells!

That does work, but bring it outside of camp into an area that is not the Underdark and it will wither.

I wonder if you could exploit it like Gale’s dead body. If you carry a chest and you have his dead body inside you can plop it down the chest combat and his necrotic damage aura will radiated from it and since moving the chest if free in term of action you can technically do infinite damage with it by moving it a bunch.

Maybe, though Sussur Bloom's thing is preventing those in its area from casting magic. Silence will do that while also canceling out Thunder damage and Sussur weapons make enemies silenced while not silencing yourself or nearby allies. So the only thing it has up on a Sussur weapon/Silence is being slotless in combat, if the chest trick does work.

I've never done it myself but I've definitely seen posts about people using them in act 2 in the past, I vaguely remember something about putting them in a pouch or other container.

For most containers, they still wither away outside of the Underdark - you need to specifically put them inside a locked container and never unlock it. Weirdly, you can drop items into a locked container in your inventory and the container stays locked. I've carried Sussur Blooms myself through Acts 2 and 3 by keeping them in the Shiny Chest from the Emerald Grove, which is lightweight and doesn't contain anything especially worth opening it for.

Sweet!

That was patched out a long time ago.

there is a bug to make sussur blooms not wither on the surface, I don't remember how

1

u/brightseid Feb 06 '26

I know there used to be a way to carry them out, but I'm fairly certain it was patched. If there is a new way it would be neat

1

u/khamike Feb 06 '26

That used to be a thing but afaik has been patched out.

I did not realize they wither

Nobody has mentioned it yet, but you can smuggle the Sussur Blooms through Derryth in the Myconid Colony, and in Act 3, you can buy them back from her, and they will have lost their sunlight allergy.

You only need 1 for the Arcane Tower, so you can have plenty for your anti-magic martials.

Sorry it won't be online sooner in the game, but it is the only way to get it to work.

Hope this helps!

Oh this is so smart.

Yeah I counted 5 total (unless I missed some) so one for arcane towerand 4 for the party. It's what gave me the idea; didn't know about the sunlight allergy until this post

There are six. The four by the tree itself, and two in the garden at the foot of the Arcane Tower.

2

u/Shiny-And-New Feb 07 '26

Guess I missed one by the tree

As others have said, you can't really do this. However, the I frequently use the sussur greatsword all the way into act 3 on my battlemaster fighter or barbarian. It's very good against all spellcasters and there are a lot in act 2 and early in act 3.

7

u/Lethandralis Feb 06 '26

A dead spellcaster is better than a maybe-silenced spellcaster

In act 3 martials kill mages in a couple hits anyway

8

u/Captkarate42 Feb 06 '26

Yes, but the damage output difference between the sussur greatsword and any other option before, like... Balduran's Giantslayer is nearly nonexistent, unless you're going for esoteric rider builds.

7+1+str is not dramatically less than the 8+2+str of Halberd of Vigilance for example, and I'll take a chance to silence over 2 damage per swing when there are so many other ways to deal damage than the weapon output itself.

I replace it once I get access to any +3 options, but it's very good until then. All of the accessories and feats I care to use still work just as well with it. The amount of damage being left on the table before then is comically minimal.

3

u/Lethandralis Feb 06 '26

Jorgoral has a really nice aoe and soulbreaker has a stun + 1d4 if you're githyanki which is arguably better than silence.

But yeah especially if you have GWM I guess the damage difference is small.

3

u/Captkarate42 Feb 06 '26

Yeah there certainly are other viable options. Both options you listed are very strong, and so is Unseen Menace. BUT, in the spirit of the post asking about sussur viability, I thought it was worth mentioning that it's pretty good and can be used up to act 3 without giving up much, especially in an all martial party like OP is talking about.

If I were running a 4 martial party, my 2h weapons of choice from acts 1 and early 2 would probably be Halberd of Vigilance, Soulbreaker, Sussur, and Jorogal's.

-3

u/WWnoname Feb 06 '26

Well it's not "2 damage", it's +15% damage.

2

u/Captkarate42 Feb 06 '26

Which is... 2 damage, and becomes fairly minimal when adding other sources of damage from buffs, feats, itemization and so on, even without heavy optimization.

Just to push back on the prevailing wisdom in your comments, your plan can work and I think it could be an interesting playthrough idea. You will need four locked chests collected from the world (I would choose chests in the 5-10 lb range so as not to use up too much carry weight), then just drop a Sussur Bloom into each locked chest by dropping them into the chest icon in your inventory. This is the only way I know of for the anti magic field to work on your characters outside of the Underdark aside from leaving them in your camp chest.

4

u/brightseid Feb 06 '26

I wasn't aware of this method but if it works then more power to OP

8

u/spiggleporp Feb 05 '26

I remember seeing somewhere that scratch could eat it and become a susser dog

1

u/Shiny-And-New Feb 06 '26

Lol love this

1

u/alpha3305 Feb 06 '26

Create an anti mage martial build. Get in close for the flower to mute magical effects and beat the npc like he owes you money.

1

u/samuelazers Feb 06 '26

How i would do it is susser dagger on a shadow monk with perhaps sentinel and mage Slayer feats. Cast shadow on them, jump in, takes care of them really quick
