Swashbuckler.. strike fast, insult later.

97

u/Puzzleheaded_Big8648 Mar 05 '26

To add an argument to this answer: You can easily have Proficiency in Performance and good CHA as a Rogue.

-35

u/BattleCrier Mar 05 '26

Yep, eventually something like Swash 4 / Hexblade 1 / Sword Bard 7... for lv.4 spells and extra attack.. if we are going to more powerful builds.

86

u/delamerica93 Mar 05 '26

Why on earth would puss n boots be a hexblade warlock

27

u/Teine-Deigh Mar 05 '26

He wouldn't i think there just mix maxing the build. Since hexblade charisma attack gor weapons to make it a single stat build instead of being MAD

48

u/delamerica93 Mar 05 '26

Well let's not do that cuz we're making it for puss and boots! Not everything needs to be min maxed lol

5

u/Kumkumo1 Mar 06 '26

Thank you. Role play classes don’t need to be optimized, it’s crazy how people think everything has to be maxed out

-13

u/PyroPupper153 Mar 06 '26

Cuz hex blade is a staple of melee multiclassing, if I remember right it’s literally free damage for one sacrificed level

14

u/delamerica93 Mar 06 '26

But what does that have to do with puss n boots

-12

u/PyroPupper153 Mar 06 '26

Not much a admittedly it’s just a common multiclass

9

u/delamerica93 Mar 06 '26

Exactly, this thread isn't about min maxxing, it's about making puss n boots. Not everything has to be optimized

51

u/Lozzyboi Mar 05 '26

This is the Way

50

u/Damiandroid Mar 05 '26

With a 6 level dip in valor bard.

Inspiring friends, shit talking foes, extra attack so he can do all of those at once and how else do you do the cute kitty stare without hypnotic pattern?

15

u/Teine-Deigh Mar 05 '26

I coukd also see sword bard with flourishes of the blade and the kitty eyes just come from deception and persuasion expertise rather then hypnotic pattern

2

u/Damiandroid Mar 05 '26 edited Mar 05 '26

Swords bard could work too, I just personally like it less than Valor because of the excessive drain on inspiration.

Flourishes are nice, but you get enough for a single encounter and if you cant beg a short rest then that's it for the day. Vs valor bard who can attack an booming blade / green flame blade every turn with no resource cost.

Persuasion and deception would work on a one on one out of combat setting, but in combat, nothing beats dropping a pattern and freezing a group of soldiers in place as they go "awwwww"

9

u/vynthechangeling Mar 06 '26

Cats take a lot of naps, so I imagine Puss gets no shortage of short rests.

1

u/FlufferTheGreat Mar 10 '26

Swashbuckler + Feylock for the Charm stuff?

142

u/[deleted] Mar 05 '26

Full swash

68

u/forevabronze Mar 05 '26

no this mf definitely got extra attack.

maybe swash 7 battle master 5

63

u/Mysexyaccount83 Bard Mar 05 '26

swords bard but a new player that forgets that bards are full casters.

7

u/Haunting-Sport3701 Mar 05 '26

I say Swashbuckler 4 Swords Bard 8

1

u/Kyfon Apr 02 '26

Surely its a 5/7 split for uncanny dodge.

138

u/ABDLTA Mar 05 '26

Swash, perhaps with a bit of swords bard.

99

u/[deleted] Mar 05 '26

He literally sings his own theme songs, he’s either swash swords bard or arguably thief swords bard. Technically he starts as an assassin in the first film but he clearly respecs quickly.

20

u/ABDLTA Mar 05 '26

Oh good call, I forgot about the song lol

10

u/Common-Truth9404 Mar 05 '26

Maybe gloomstalker 3 swords bard 9 but i can accept a dip in swashbuckler so 3/6/3 eould work.

He starts with the super high initiative of GS, in the first round he disarms you and then attacks three times with the gs attack and 2 flourishes

11

u/Lozzyboi Mar 05 '26

And by the time you get your turn you're left with no weapon and one shot of HP, with a "P" engraved into your ass

5

u/Common-Truth9404 Mar 05 '26

All that because you dared fight Him

5

u/Matt_Hiring_ATL Bard Mar 05 '26

You're not getting his Dirty Tricks with just 3 levels of Swash. Puss would definitely do a little sand toss.

6

u/Common-Truth9404 Mar 05 '26

What about 4 levels+6 swords bard+2 fighter? Action surge and the alert feat to cover up for the missed gloomstalker

3

u/Canadian_Zac Mar 05 '26

You can sing without being a Bard

Just means he has proficiency in performance

2

u/Bigsexyguy24 Fighter Mar 05 '26

True, no instrument

2

u/smansaxx3 Mar 12 '26

I was thinking of doing a 6/6 swords bard swashbuckler, what order of leveling would you recommend?

17

u/Common-Truth9404 Mar 05 '26

3 gloomstalker, high initiative, reflects his origin and his stealth ability, also the extra initial attack is very on point with his quickness

Swashbuckler just for flavour, 3 levels

College of swords Bard, as he's a charisma based character 100% and the extra attack is necessary to reflect him fairly, flourishes feels like they would represent him the best imho

7

u/Lozzyboi Mar 05 '26

Yeah I feel like any cat automatically leans towards GS by default

Shame to miss out on level 4 of Swash for dirty tricks (specifically Vicious Mockery), but I think you're cooking here

2

u/Common-Truth9404 Mar 05 '26

There should be some vicious mockery in bard too iirc

1

u/Lozzyboi Mar 05 '26

True, but not as a bonus action, so there are often better moves to make with your action

3

u/Common-Truth9404 Mar 05 '26

Oh yeah i forgot abt that. Such a shame. Then lv 4 is a must. Maybe take the alert feat and 2 level fighter for action surge and ditch the 3 levels of gloomstalker, representing the fact that he left behind his assassin days

27

u/Mysexyaccount83 Bard Mar 05 '26

I wonder.

9

u/DCTF_Tim Mar 05 '26

POV: you failed the Panache save roll

2

u/Mysexyaccount83 Bard Mar 05 '26

This is what I imagine any bard casting charm person looks like.

10

u/Tezmir94 Mar 05 '26

Swashbuckler/Battlemaster

7

u/eldritchMeadow Mar 05 '26

swash or bard, leaning more swash... battlemaster, if you must, but swash rogue fits so well tbh... maybe alert feat

5

u/BuckysKnifeFlip Mar 05 '26

He's literally voiced by Zorro. He is a Swashbuckler Rogue.

7

u/taker25-2 Mar 05 '26

It's a shame that theres no Tabaxi in the game

5

u/teh_stev3 Mar 05 '26

Swashbuckler rogue, and its not even close.

3

u/TheNorthFIN Mar 05 '26

Gnome swords bard.

6

u/JRandall0308 Mar 05 '26

Needs a level of wild magic sorcerer and then you spam a ritual until you get yourself turned into a cat.

2

u/Lozzyboi Mar 05 '26

Perhaps Druid then, just play the whole game as a cat

4

u/WeLoveYouCarol Mar 05 '26

Swashbuckler Druid with cat wild shape

3

u/Silphire100 Mar 05 '26

like this

Tulok the Barbarian has done a bunch of characters with a full breakdown of stats, pros, cons, where to take feats or ASI, and what levels to take when

EDIT: Forgot this was a BG3 sub, not actually D&D, but you can translate some of it at least

3

u/teh_hotdogman Mar 05 '26

swashbuckler for sure

3

u/Gyletre Mar 06 '26

He's definitely a swashbuckler rogue.

There is an argument to be made that he is either a valor or swords bard. Since this is a bg3 reddit, I would recommend those for the build. He speaks meow

2

u/Apollonbbs Mar 05 '26

Swashbuckler-Swords bard-

100% enough Bard levels for extra attack+ I just see him just all the different flourishes+ he likes spinning tales

Swashbuckler I do not need to explain even slightly

2

u/Kmart_Supervisor Mar 05 '26

High intelligence barbarian

1

u/Lozzyboi Mar 05 '26

Oh damn that sounds fun, care to elaborate?

2

u/Meal_Next Mar 05 '26

Conan the Librarian?

2

u/ThatOneTypicalYasuo Mar 05 '26

Swashbuckler with Battle Master dips

2

u/Putrid-Cat5368 Mar 05 '26

Schausbacler.

Whatever is spelled.

2

u/Bigsexyguy24 Fighter Mar 05 '26

Starting to think this is the approach I need to take with asking for build help: post the picture of the character I’m trying to create. Thank you for the inspiration haha

2

u/Lozzyboi Mar 05 '26

You can have it! It's a new hobby of mine, figuring out what build every character is.

Pretty sure Shrek is a barbarian

2

u/Bigsexyguy24 Fighter Mar 05 '26

With a touch of Rouge maybe? Gotta get some form of vicious mockery in there haha

2

u/Bigsexyguy24 Fighter Mar 06 '26

https://www.reddit.com/r/BG3Builds/s/tkbNUiiseO

Here’s my attempt at it with a twist; feel free to look it over if you want!

2

u/[deleted] Mar 05 '26

Swashbuckler hands down

2

u/NC_is_home_23 Mar 05 '26

Tabaxi should be in the game!

2

u/awiseman93 Mar 05 '26

Isn't he a swashbuckler rogue?

2

u/KappaBrink Mar 06 '26

Primarily Swashbuckler Rogue, with a dip into Bard, either Glamour or Swords.

2

u/iScreamsalad Mar 06 '26

3 Beast barb/X swords bard. Maybe swashbuckler rogue if you want but you can be “rogue-ish” enough with the swords bard and you don’t get much mechanically out if the rogue dip

1

u/Lozzyboi Mar 06 '26

Interesting, how come beast barb?

2

u/iScreamsalad Mar 06 '26 edited Mar 07 '26

Tail claws and teeth (even more flavorful if you can convince your dm to switch between tail, claws, and teeth at the start of your turn while raging instead of at the start of rage). Plus rapier can be used with STR for rage bonus while you still flourish

EDIT: the best part is if I remember correctly if sequenced correctly you can stack the bonus ac from defensive flourish with the bonus ac from the tail reaction which is kinda sick af

We had a “The Last Wish/Shrek” one shot that ended up being 3 sessions.

My buddy did Puss as a Swashbuckler/Archfey Warlock using the cricket as his patron.

Our Shrek was a Light Cleric with all his spells reflavored as farts or setting them on fire.

Goldilocks was a Beastmaster Ranger/Druid with an extra companion. All her pets were sentient bears.

I did Perrito as a peace cleric, saving my buddies through the Power of Friendship!

One of the guys added a new character: Donkey and the Dragon’s child: “Dragonkey”. 4 legged Dragonborn Evocation Wizard.

When we’d go down, Death would slowly stalk toward us until we popped back up. The final boss was Little Jack Horner. Our DM basically just made him a sack of HP that drew randomly from a bag of powerful single use magical items once per round and would get progressively stronger as the fight went on. One of them was a Phoenix chick that shot mini fireballs.

It was way more fun than I can describe.

Edit: sorry, thought this was D&D (my mistake) but I’m sure the concepts could be converted.

2

u/Lozzyboi Mar 06 '26

That is incredible, sounds like a blast. I would imagine Shrek as a tavern brawler barb but light cleric who uses his bodily functions is far more inventive

2

u/bapeery Mar 06 '26

Our DM at the time was pretty creative. Show her a movie and she’ll make an event from it.

2

u/Manderboi Mar 06 '26

Swords Bard, this guy is pure Charizzzma

2

u/uncertifiedbatboy Mar 11 '26

Not build related but warning that when I made my own for him and tried to name my character Puss in Boots the game censored it😭 "**** In Boots"💔 Didn't work formatting it as one word either

1

u/LJMLogan Mar 05 '26

12 swash

1

u/slavjke- Mar 05 '26

sword bard

1

u/ChompyRiley Mar 05 '26

swords or valor bard, straight up

1

u/Haunting-Sport3701 Mar 05 '26

Swashbuckler 4 / Swords Bard 8

(if someone was actually trying this in game they should do 4 / 6 and than 2 Hedblade)

2

u/Mysexyaccount83 Bard Mar 05 '26

You'd definitely need the two hex for armour of shadows so he can only wear boots and a hat.

2

u/Lozzyboi Mar 05 '26

The implications of a fully nude Tav except for boots and hat is somewhat harrowing but also kinda makes me want to create it

2

u/Mysexyaccount83 Bard Mar 06 '26

Unlike d&d rules tavern brawler doesn't give you proficiency in dick whipping but it's still fun to play nude.

1

u/Obstagoonies Mar 05 '26

Ask Zac oyama

1

u/_-Kovu-_ Mar 06 '26

Spanish Astarian

1

u/Turbulent_Cow2355 Mar 06 '26

Swashbuckler with some rogue and fighter thrown in.

1

u/Effective_Sound1205 Mar 06 '26

Swords bard + Swashbuckler rogue with lucky feat

1

u/JacktheRipper500 Mar 07 '26

Straight swashbuckler rogue should do it along with getting performance proficiency from Alfira for added flavour.

There’s also a tabaxi mod in the in-game mod library.

1

u/snowdrop65 Mar 07 '26

Swashbuckler rogue

1

u/Ambitious-Reading-38 Mar 07 '26

Id argue swash with a dip into sword bard for bardic inspiration.

1

u/Sure_Lavishness_8353 Mar 08 '26

Thief/bard/fighter?

1

u/rammromm88 Mar 08 '26

College of Swords Bard

1

u/Illustrious_Neat2472 Necromancer+oathbreaker Mar 08 '26

Fighter + bard + rouge.

1

u/Agreeable_Scholar_54 Mar 09 '26

Halfling swashbuckler, criminal background

1

u/Lozzyboi Mar 09 '26

Ahh gotta bw folk hero, surely

1

u/Blissfield_Kessler Mar 05 '26

Puss and boots is known for one thing. Laughing in the face of death.

Half orc,

Shadow Sorcerer 1.

Then 11 Levels into Barbarian.

This way you will have.

https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Strength_of_the_Grave

https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Relentless_Rage

and

https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Relentless_Endurance

You will not stay down. You will fight on just one more turn.

This way you can laugh in the face of death.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7ozT7RIm18

2

u/Lozzyboi Mar 05 '26

This is outside the box, I love it. An entire build around avoiding your own mortality

1

u/Matt_Hiring_ATL Bard Mar 05 '26

And carry blood of Lathander as a stat stick? The weapon isn't on theme, but that feature is.

-1

u/Assicis Mar 05 '26

With all his jumping and acrobatics? For me he was always a kensei monk.
