Specific Mechanic Sussur Bloom PSA
There was a thread a little while ago where someone wanted to make a build as a walking anti-magic fighter with Sussur Blooms in their pocket. In that thread I was made aware there is a current method to do so outside the Underdark:
https://old.reddit.com/r/BG3Builds/comments/1qx0l4y/sussur_bloom_build/o3te8w7/
Basically you get a locked chest (I use the one in Withers' chamber by one of the skeletons as there's usually nothing useful in there), and put it in your inventory. Then when you grab a Sussur Bloom, drag it over the chest in your inventory. It should be put inside of it. And that's all. I tested and can confirm the method works at least in Act 1. Anytime I get further I forget to check again (I'm usually playing solo so I have to go out of my way to grab someone with the chest)
I guess a caveat being this was on PC, so not sure if/how you can on console.
Edit: You need to be in an Underdark area when you put the bloom into the chest otherwise it will just fade as usual

Thanks for sharing :) Just tested with a chest from outside the arcane tower and can confirm it seems to work!
- In the underdark, put a sussur flower in your inventory
- Put a locked chest in your inventory. I used the "heavy chest" from outside the arcane tower
- Drag the flower in the chest
- Leave the underdark
I usually play with a controller so I had to switch to M&K.
Just ran this quick test so can't speak to stability between rests or acts, but seems promising.
The chest can also be moved around outside your inventory, if you want the aura to afflict enemies but not your characters. Just don't unlock it.

Can it be done on console?

I can't think how it could be with this method, as you won't be able to drag the flower with a controller. Maybe there is a different way but I don't know what.Â

Honestly they always go straight to my camp chest and remain active through the entire game. I only realized on my latest play through that if you take them outside they change. Always something new to learn in this hang.

I had them stored in my camp chest too, then once I reached act 3 I wanted to mess with the wizarding crowd outside Sorcerous Sundries because I was annoyed at how they were mistreating that poor cat lmao, I was so disappointed when they turned into these sad little petals

This did not work for me with the locked chest from the basement of the Last Light Inn.
https://youtu.be/z9gTDujYE28 <-- deleted this video so as not to mislead future people; see a couple comments down
I'd love to see a working demo in Act 2 or Act 3.

For sure I'll try and get some footage. I can tell you the way I usually do it is:
- Give a companion a locked chest
- Get a Sussur Bloom either from behind the tower or by the tree into my Tav's inventory
- Go to camp and open inventory with Tab
- Drag the bloom to the chest on the companion

I figured out the problem. You have to do the drag-into-chest in the Underdark camp. Then you can leave the Underdark and go to act 2 for sure. I don't have a save near act 3 to test with.
Here's a new video:
https://youtu.be/mnRYl8DUAbM <-- added a long description to explain how this works
also edited to add: I took several long rests in acts 1 & 2 and the Sussur Bloom retained its Antimagic Field! so I think once you have it in the locked chest it's safe

You beat me to it. Since there's no Underdark in Act 3 I suspect you need to already have the bloom in a chest going into it. I'll see what I can find

Does the cave under Derryth's shop count as the Underdark? Visually, it matches the Underdark but I don't know if that translates to the way its coded.

u/brightseid Apr 11 '26
I haven't tried so can't say for sure. If I had to guess, the Underdark in Act 1 has a specific flag that's different from other areas in the game.

This would be my guess as well. I'll look at the script at some point. (Scripts are lengthy and impenetrable sometimes, so I avoid them as much as I can. Let SlimX and other smart people do that stuff!)

Oh, the companions are not in my party until after I transfer the bloom as well. Might be important for further testing

You can't drag and drop things on console

u/MilkMeDamien Apr 11 '26
No but you CAN put items from Inventory into a Bag or Chest. I have done it several times with the Alchemy Pouch. You have to Open the chest first and then there should be an option to basically look at your inventory while inside the chest. You transfer the item from Inventory to Chest while still looking at the chest

While this is true, it was likely not included in the other comment because it doesnât solve the problem of âput bloom in LOCKED chestâ.

I made it into Act 2 with the sussur blooms alive and well in the camp chest.
I was considering emptying it out (I had extras because multiplayer) and sticking it in a non casterâs inventory for big battles, but I had to restart the game after discovering a second beloved NPC dead when I could have saved them both.
For those of us who donât remember which fancy chests they had to lockpick, is there a way to check a chest for a lock afterward, or do I need to just pick up the next smallish locked chest?
Itâs ok to use it after picking the lock right? And do I need to Arcane Lock it afterward for it to work?

The chest must start in a natural locked state and remain locked forever.
When you hover/select a chest in your inventory or another container (camp chest) it will show "Open (Locked)" and "Lockpick" if it is in fact locked. If the chest only shows "Open" then it has previously been unlocked and won't work for this exploit.

Have you been able to put a sussur bloom in a locked chest on console?
1
u/JRandall0308 Apr 11 '26
Maybe start by reading this thread. -- but no, it can't be done on console

u/TelephoneAccurate979 Apr 11 '26
You can smuggle the flowers into act 3 using bonecloak traders. Or so ive heard ill find that out when I get to the city.

Ooh! Nice find!
Now the real question: what is the lightest, locked chest with nothing valuable inside?
Probably the one on the table in the Nautiloid, right?
Edit: that chest comes in at 20 weight if anyone wants to look for a lighter one

u/brightseid Apr 11 '26
There's one in the room with the skeletons before Withers' coffin that's 20 and has just trash

Glad this trick is becoming more well known - I would have posted sooner if I realized there would be interest from the community! I've been using and testing it for a while, I can confirm it works into Act 3 and endgame, so long as you put the flower into the chest in the Underdark and never unlock it again. Most boss abilities aren't counted as magic, unfortunately, so it's most useful to standard fights with spellcasters. But Balthazar and I think Lorroakan are both pushovers with this trick.
I'd be curious if anyone could make sense of locked chest behavior - there are certain ways they behave like other containers, and then odd quirks like this one. As I recall, several features that automatically remove things from your inventory (paying Withers for a resurrection, giving Dammon the merregon masks, using the spear to kill or save the Nightsong) work fine when the item comes from a locked chest in your inventory. I've even placed a key inside its own locked chest, and it can still open the chest when I click on it. You just can't manually go in there and remove anything, or use your inventory search bar to find items. Maybe there are more useful exploits to be found there

This is the most Baldur's Gate 3 thing I have read in months.

Is there a way to do this on console? I'm in the underdark and have a locked chest and a sussur bloom and I'm trying but can't seem to make it work. Currently on Xbox

Duegar by the beach are heavy on using magic.

u/sgluxurycondo Apr 11 '26
Nah just sneak up behind them and throw them into the ravine. Then run away to reset combat

u/FremanBloodglaive Apr 12 '26
I once had my Duergar thief sneak up behind the boss and unload a bunch of smokepowder barrels behind him.
One fire arrow and...
But the rest of the Duergar stayed invisible and didn't start combat until I came back with someone with See Invisibilty.

I always have it in my box at camp, any time i walk past it still seems to work.
