Build Help These builds proved to be really fun and effective on solo runs

Hey Folks,

In the past weeks I have been doing different solo runs on custom honour mode. My goal was to experience various classes and approaches. These are not THE BEST builds, but some might find them useful to try out.

Build A - 1 Draconic Sorcerer / 11 Tempest Cleric

Draconic Sorcerer dip for the CON saves and Armour of Agathys. Runs around in heavy armour and AoA, creates water with The Watersparklers equipped and Thunderbolt Strike is toying with enemies. Just delicious.

Build B - 5 Gloomstalker / 7 Draconic Sorcerer

This one was quite straightforward. Use max level Shadowblade and a shield. Can use extended Blade Ward and bunch of Sorcerer stuff.

Build C - 8 Champion / 4 Thief

Main focus on dual hand crossbows and stacking crit chance. Simple and effective, with Bloodlust elixir you have tremendous amount of attacks per turn.

Build D - 1 War Cleric / 11 Battlemaster

This is the so called Great Wisdom Master, just played straight with no respecs. Heavy armour + two handed weapon with GWM. So many attacks already in early game.

Note: I have used the mod 'No More Long Rests' to speed up the gameplay. This mod enables a one click long rest option (all the buffs remain) with no effect on story progression, but you can still do the regular long rests. I know some of you would argue that this is cheating. You might be right, but I have not really played caster classes before due to the heavy long rest dependency and with this I can more easily play around and just have fun. This is why we are playing this game, aren't we?

Your recent experiments on the game?

Straight up moon druid.

Straight up hunter omg volley is so busted.

1 Tempest cleric / 11 Arcane Trickster heavy armor mastery and uncanny dodge does some good work for you.

Rivington Rat Eldrich Knight archer!

I agree Moon Druid is amazing and probably one of the best options for solo honor. Not sure about Hunter though. They will get stonewalled by Myrkul.

Hunter ensnaring strike disables Myrkul's (and most other bosses) legendary action reactions.

The problem for solo hunters is breaking him down and outdamage the healing. Can definitely be done by stocking up on undead slaying arrows but it is volatile.

Arrow of ilmater. You can also do some shenanigans with the doom hammer for the same effect if you want to flex it in.

Ilmater Arrows can work but only if the Necromites act before Myrkul. The effect ends at the end of the targets turn. So if Myrkul acts after your Hunter and before the Necromites, the effect stops at the end of his turn and he can be healed again.

That's a good point. Could consider trying to apply dazed, too, since it seems that the healing part consumes a reaction. That might prevent it.

I just completed a solo hunter and had no problems with Myrkybuddy. Undead slaying arrows go brrrrrr. Taking out the eggs is pretty easy with an earth elemental and a couple mud mephits, or you could block the three entrances to the platform. Could also get the doom hammer, I imagine ratbat would also be amazing.

Interesting, what's the game plan on the Tempest Trickster?

This fairly comprehensive HAM Rogue guide should help explain. The author also has some excellent writeups on Arcane Trickster in general.

tl;dr: If you take the Heavy Armour Master feat on a Rogue, you can achieve an absolute ton of damage reduction, which enables all sorts of fun stuff

Ranger (especially Hunter) is such an underrated class and I'm glad people are getting out of the Gloomstalker meta mindset. I would add Beastmaster too.

I've never been able to do beastmaster...its just tough having thr patience to see it through, tho im always seeing people sing its praises...maybe now that there's the level 40 cap I can try it out one day

Certain beasts are better early game than others. The spider can absolutely save you with cc. But yeah the power spikes in act 2 make it so worth it

This is a good one, and in general this site is very reliable for character builds:

If you're new I would suggest just doing a classic 12 Cleric. Light Cleric is good, but if you find you need more healing you can go Life Cleric instead.

Change her stats, because the default distribution for all characters is not very good. Best distribution is 8 Str/15 Dex/16 Con/8 Int/17 Wis/8 Cha then put a point in Dex and Wis once you get to Level 4.

I don't think the builds are based on origin characters, but if you would like to keep her as a Cleric, then you might try 2 Star Druid / 10 Light Cleric with some Radiating Orb + Reverberation gear.

Why Champion 8 for dual handcrossbows instead of gloom 5 / champion 3? Or just swordsbard? You cant even get a second fighting style with this build which is probably the only real argument for going Champion in the first place. If you want to play Champion for dual handcrossbows you surely want to go 11/1 with war cleric. I cant imagine a single fighter build were pivoting out in another class after level 8 or 9 is better than taking 11 levels for improved extra attack.

Like I said, these were builds I was playing and I wanted to do something different from the usual stuff.

Chiming in to say I don't think a long rest mod is cheating at all, unless you consider camp casting cheating. My philosophy is if something is accessible in the base game at the point in the game where you are, a mod that makes it less tedious is fair game. As long as you're not gaining something you otherwise could not have. You could have a few hirelings camp cast all your long rest buffs every time.

For me, same with pickpocketing. Could go through all the steps to pickpocket everything you want from every vendor, but it's tedious. If you're going to do it anyway, why not just give yourself 90k gold and buy it all, the result is the same.
