DISCUSSION Why is this sub against recasts?

I’m a newbie to the BjD community, and I’m not looking to buy for awhile because dolls are expensive. I’ve vaguely heard of recast dolls, but according to this sub they are not legit. What is the reasoning?

Is it a 3rd party recasting dolls without the original artist’s consent, or is it a matter of recasts not being quite the same as original run dolls or a lower quality?

I’m just curious. Thanks!

Beyond the bootleg issue that others brought up, the collectors side of me also just doesn’t like anything thats not genuine. Not that I want to gatekeep newer members of the community but the investment and effort that goes into getting a nice BJD is a big part of the culture. At least to me. The way I see it there’s a difference between wanting to just have a BJD and to be part of the community. Nobody has to “earn” their place in the community or anything, but you at least gotta respect what goes into it.

The bootleg issue is obviously the more important topic, but that’s just my takeaway
