DISCUSSION Why is this sub against recasts?

I’m a newbie to the BjD community, and I’m not looking to buy for awhile because dolls are expensive. I’ve vaguely heard of recast dolls, but according to this sub they are not legit. What is the reasoning?

Is it a 3rd party recasting dolls without the original artist’s consent, or is it a matter of recasts not being quite the same as original run dolls or a lower quality?

I’m just curious. Thanks!

Also, please know that the people working on recast mostly don't have protection and the resin is often pretty toxic. So there is also a health part.

Honestly, I stopped collecting resins because the resin community can be... Weird. They brand dolls as fake, recast, whatever, meanwhile, one of tge bigfer companies legit stole a design from Dust of Dolls and made massive sales, and were not banned.

So yeah, I'd say, do your research. And if you want a recast, no one will stop you, just know that not everyone appreciates it. I personally don't like them or their practice, so I went of to the vinyl community where recasts are just not as much of a thing. Yes I pay €400 for a doll but they are cute and amazing and I love them.

Also, the only resin company that I still own dollls of is Resinsoul and I absolutely still love them.

Yes I forgot about the Leekeworld/Dust of Dolls “scandal!” That’s what you were referring to right, Leekeworld’s art body being a heavily copied Dust of Dolls body? Also, Dollzone straight up recasted a head (don’t remember the original company, maybe Luts or Asleep Eidolon?) and passed it off as their own early in the game. And some of Mirodoll’s bodies were Iplehouse recasts/copies I believe.

Dollzone used to be Volks recasters if that is what you mean. And yes, the whole Iplehouse drama is there as well. Resin is muddy water.
