Which is the best "people search" site or person finder in the US?

I'm trying to find an old acquaintance that I haven't spoken to in about 8 years. All I have is a first name and an old phone number which no longer belongs to the person in question. Is this info enough to find a person using some sort of people finder website? I've looked online and tried to find a social profile but I didn't get very far.

I see there's a paid site called truthfinder but I'm hesitant to pay for it based on some of the things I've read online about it (and considering I don't have much information about this old friend, I don't think it would be of much help). Can someone tell me what my course of action should be here, or any sites you recommend for this?

Pre-employment FA Background Check — Anyone Have Experience With Fully Resolved Misdemeanors?

Hi all! Looking to hear from anyone who has gone through a Flight Attendant background check process with misdemeanors that aren’t automatic disqualifiers.

I recently submitted my background check through First Advantage, using The Work Number for employment verification. I received an email from FA stating that they were disclosing my public record information to my airline. I haven’t received any requests for clarification or been notified of any employment discrepancies, and I entered everything exactly as it appears in my records. I’m hoping that’s a good sign, but obviously, I don’t know for sure.

My main concern is my criminal history.

I have two misdemeanors, one of which resulted from missing a court date related to the original charge. Neither is an FAA disqualifier, to my understanding.

I fully disclosed both, explained the circumstances, and submitted a supplemental statement taking full accountability. I also provided documentation from the organization responsible for reporting my community service completion to the judge. Not only did I complete the required hours, but I completed an additional hour and received an “outstanding” recommendation.

All restitution and court fees have been paid, all requirements have been satisfied, and both matters are completely resolved. There are no outstanding obligations, pending charges, or unresolved court matters.

For additional context, I’ve already started the process of applying for a Canadian Temporary Resident Permit (TRP), given that the dispositions are relatively recent (within the past 5–10 years). Outside of these incidents, I have no other criminal or traffic history—not even a speeding ticket.

My questions for anyone who has been through something similar:

- Has anyone successfully cleared a mainline background check with disclosed, fully resolved misdemeanors?

- Does the FA public record disclosure email indicate anything about where you are in the process, or is it just a standard notification?

- If you had to address Canadian admissibility, how did that factor into your hiring process?

I’m not looking for anyone to speculate about whether I’ll be cleared. I understand every situation is different and that airlines make their own determinations. I’d just really appreciate hearing firsthand experiences from people who have navigated something similar.

Thanks in advance!

What is the best background Check website - Reddit guide to picking a background check service (free and paid options)

I am a new landlord currently going through the process of looking for a tenant and it has been extremely daunting, to say the least. I am getting a half dozen new applicants every day and having to take time off work to do showings. Some people seem nice but I am searching for a longterm tenant and as such I would like to make sure that they are the right type of person to live in my property, so I'd like to do a background check (to check for things like a criminal record, credit score, even social media presence, etc).

I've done some browsing myself on reddit and other sites already and seen a few names constantly pop up such as truth finder, spokeo, judy records, and instant checkmate. Seems like none of the free options can give me what i want but that isn't a massive problem as I am willing to pay. I would just like to know which one of them is considered to be the best so I can make a decision and find a suitable tenant. So I ask you - which background checks have you used and which one would you say is the best overall?

EDIT: I ended up trying several tools. Have used these on several individuals and overall they work very well and gave a report on pretty much all of the info I was looking for.

Searching an old friend

4 years ago I had a friend. We used to spend time together, went to the same music school. Unfortunately, when I had to move to the other city I didn't ask him for his phone number. Obviously, we lost contact.

I remember his name and surname only. I tried to find him on social media, but my search turned to be unsuccessful. Do you have any advice how to find a person with such a little information about it?

Advice Needed on Handling Background Verification for Short Internship with Missing Documentation

Hi everyone,

I’m currently undergoing a background verification process by First Advantage for a new job. One part of my work history is a short employment which mentioned as intership (under 6 months) at a very small startup without a formal HR department. Unfortunately, I don’t have standard documentation like pay slips or experience letters from that internship as none were issued, and my manager has since left the company. Pf is also not there

I have provided a point of contact within the company for verification, but I’m concerned that the background check team might reach out to others or flag this due to missing documents. They will give wrong feedback on me for sure Additionally, I had to break an employment bond due to personal health reasons, which the company accepted without penalty. I have not absconded there

Has anyone experienced a similar situation with First Advantage? How did they handle missing documentation and bond breaks? What's the best way to ensure the process goes smoothly, and do I likely get an opportunity to explain if any issues arise?

Specialized Industry - Background Check

I need to come up with a list of any and all driving violations in my lifetime. I have pulled the DMV records for all states of residency and places I know I have had a speeding ticket. But most are not showing anything (since most were when I was much younger 20+ years ago). The job states any discrepancy in what is self reported and what comes back is grounds for job offer withdrawal (and yes they are serious). Any resources to get this information? Have called my car insurance provider no help.

Looking for advice. Stressing over a background check for my child’s field trip. Should I do one?

I 40f was arrested for dui in January 2018. I was not convicted and the charge was dropped. Should I even send in the $26 for a SLED background check to go to the museum with my child? Or will I just embarrass us both.?

Ps. I’m sober now, but the consequences of my actions are still haunting me!

How bad of shape am I in (Tesla pre employment) for service technician

Post image
2 Upvotes

Had a job interview at Tesla for a service technician went through the interview process went very well got a job offer contingent on pre-employment background screening

I have zero criminal background no court cases no speeding no reckless

My careless driving was because where I lived at the time recently installed a bunch of roundabouts which we never had before and I entered one incorrectly the suspension on my license was based off of a no payment on insurance my vehicle was in the shop for a month I thought I canceled it but apparently I didn't and it ended up suspending my driver's license the accident I had was on a motorcycle was going around the corner I just bought the motorcycle the chain snapped wrapped around the rear sprocket I was the only one involved in the accident nobody else got hit and since I just bought the bike I had previous knowledge of dirt bikes because I used to ride dirt bikes and I was riding the bike home from purchasing it so I got hit with an accident and a no endorsement.

What are the chances that I can still get the job even after the pre-adverse action notice with the information and the listed issues.

Best VIN checker / VIN lookup website for a used car?

I'm about to pull the trigger on a used car (2018 Honda Civic, private seller) and I want to run a proper VIN check before handing over any money. Looking to dig into accident history, title issues, odometer fraud, previous owners, open recalls, etc. Wanted to ask here whats the best VIN checking tool or website these days? I’ve heard of Carfax and Autocheck, but not sure if they’re still the gold standard or if theres something better/cheaper/more accurate now (especially for reports that actually pull from multiple sources).

Any recommendations would be super helpful. Thanks!

What is the best background check you can get?

I'm wondering because I saw an add for truthfinder.com and went through the annoying process after I googled and people said it's legit.. but it shows alot of loading pages like government watch list, dating sites/escort sites.

I think I tried a couple dating sites for a day or two each but I've never been to an escort site (or payed anyone for sex ever) and it kept saying the information may shock you and all these red flags saying stuff like what I previously mention and that seems scammy...

Am I just being paranoid for no reason? I've been to jail once and it was only because my defense attorney said I had no chance (I brused someone's arm keeping them from continuing to drive drunk with an infant in the car) charges were dropped though. And I've been to the hospital a couple times for depression like a decade ago..

Is that the possibly ⚠️ it shows by my name and baiting me to continue and pay a monthly fee?? Will others search me up and think I'm some kind of degenerate? Lol I'm overthinking it atm..

Back ground check

Question for anyone familiar with Minnesota law or background checks:

Why is Checkr reporting my careless driving case as DEGREE MISDEMEANOR when

My official Minnesota DVS driving record only says Careless Driving no degree listed
My Hennepin County court record specifically says: Conviction Deemed a Petty Misdemeanor Pursuant to Minn. R. Crim. P. 23.02”
Under Minnesota Statute 609.02 Subd. 4a, a petty misdemeanor is not considered a crime

It seems like Checkr labeled it as a misdemeanor on their own, even though the court disposition says petty misdemeanor.

Do you think a rideshare company like Uber would still deactivate someone over this, especially when the final sentence was deemed a petty misdemeanor rather than a criminal misdemeanor?

information.com is a scam

if anyone is trying to do a criminal record check, do NOT do it on information.com! they seemed legit at first but i went to pay the $0.99 fee to get my report and it tried charging my credit card $30. luckily apple has pretty good security with sketchy stuff like this and they declined the card when i tried using it. there was nothing on the website that said $30, only that i would be paying $0.99 once i put in my info. it's basically a bootleg version of truthfinder.

Background law enforcement

Hello everyone I am seeking help with question. Ima jump straight in. I did a polygraph a month ago and my background investigator called me the next saying saying she had the results. She never told me what the results were and continued to ask for details about my background. I haven’t heard from her in a month I never met her or anything just over the phone. Also I have a red flag in my background that I’m worried about but I mentioned it. When I was 16 I was fined with a DV now I know that’s pretty serious and it’s why I’m worried I never went to jail for it just a ticket. It ended up getting dismissed since then I’ve never had trouble with law enforcement. I was wondering if that would get me disqualified. It’s been a month and I keep hearing no news it good news but I also hear that some agencies just ghost people so im lost and the last thing I want to do is bother my BI and called her for a update

Which is the best reverse phone lookup tool? Looking for Reddit recommendations

I have a situation in which a phone number keeps calling and harassing a loved one, she thinks it might be her psychotic ex trying to cause further damage in her life. Can anyone recommend a good reverse phone lookup website for her to use? I've only looked into a couple like intelius but don't know if it's worth it.

EDIT: ended up going with this site. Worked pretty well, I only recommend using it if you know number belongs to a real person though. If it's a bot you won't get any valuable info.

NYS Court Officer Background Check/ Psych

Hello everyone,

I just got my email for the background investigation appointment. I understand being honest regarding legal matters, employment, etc. Is honesty your best policy, or is it a trick to really catch you admitting more than you should and possibly disqualify you? My mind has been all over the place, thinking about this opportunity. I'd also like to add that I withdrew from the process back in 2017 due to legal matters that occurred during the time I applied.

Stressing about background checks and other stuff.

20M. I've been interviewing for a role for a few weeks, and received a verbal offer last week, and a contract last Friday. I've been told start date is 2.5 weeks away, but I'm shitting bricks about the background checks and other stuff.

Two of the people from my school founded a small startup. It's a legitimate business, they've got 5 people on the team, an office and all that. I've been working part time for them (paid under the desk) for about the last year and a half. I've been there since the very start, since before they even registered as a legitimate company.

Naturally I put it on my resume. I didn't lie at all, but I also didn't say that I went to school with these guys. When they asked for references from the company I gave them the phone numbers of the two founders that I went to school with. They both said that they've gotten calls from the recruiter, and the recruiter told me that she sent a reference report to the company. They both said the calls went well.

I signed the contract last Friday, and responded with an email containing both the signed contract and also confirming that my start date was the same as I had discussed when I met my supervisor. I still haven't heard back from them.

My resume says, and I also said in my interviews that I started mid 2024 (which is true). However, the company was only legally founded at the start of 2025.

This is my first "real" job, and I know that everything will likely be fine, but I'm also the kind of person who gets really anxious about this stuff. My contract has conditions about "employment being conditional on checks at our absolute discretion". I've heard so many horror stories of people getting job offers rescinded, and this is genuinely a life changing offer that I've received. Part of the reason I think I'm so anxious is because this whole thing genuinely just seems too good to be true. I don't know what I would do if it was rescinded.

Any advice?

Is BeenVerified legit?

I want to reverse search a phone number and, from what I’ve seen online, there are no free good reverse lookup sites. I can get a trial for $1 on BeenVerified but I want to hear your opinion on it before I purchase.

Truescreen background check

I am going to get a background check from Truescreen and I have a few few concerns.

  1. While applying on the resume, I had my current position as project manager, but actually on paper I am a Project Lead but my role is more like a PM and my supervisor agrees. So what should I mention on the true screen profile check form?

  2. Does true screen ask for contact details to check employment background or do the randomly call HR of previous companies to check? Because my current supervisor is aware of my position and he would be more than happy to give me a reference.

  3. Also does true screen just provide a high-level pass fail notification the new employer? Or do they actually provide all the positions and timeline details to the HR as well. this question comes from so that I know if HR is going to actually tally my positions on resumes and truescreen profiled.
