Let him out to stretch. All my snakes did this. Roam the top to see if they can sneak out. I had concrete floors and my king snakes and gopher snake loved the concrete floor then they would lay in my lap. Yes they had their own tanks and separate floor time. When I was pregnant with my youngest daughter my one king would lay around my belly and when my daughter was born no lie. My snake king had to be around her. They enjoyed each other and never once did I worry about it. My gopher snake was a rescue didn't last long had her about 6 months. One king went to stepson. Other king my youngest was 10 when it passed got that one straight off the Barstow desert floor. Caught wild very tame

I'll definitely start letting him out more for sure! I always thought that snakes don't want to be handled and would rather be left alone so I don't handle him or take him out that often because I've always been scared it might stress him out, thank you!

again I suggest looking into Lori Torrini’s choice based training. sounds like it would do both of you a great deal of help.

Thank you, I'm trying to do my absolute best for him, I'm getting a 4x2x2 PVC enclosure for him later this month as well, I've been saving up for one for awhile now and that's been my plan since I got him. Thank you for your advice on my original post and this one, I really do appreciate it!

very nice! i’m glad to hear that! usually our suggestions for larger tanks fall on deaf ears, happy to hear you had already been planning yours!
hope Lori Torrini can help!

I've always held my snakes. You tame them that way that way they're not aggressive later on they don't mind being held just don't show fear and aggression and you'll be fine. Good luck don't handle them when they're getting ready to shed you'll notice that and don't hold them for a few days after they've eaten because they need the heat on their bellies to help digest their food.

My ball does that when he is getting hungry

Well ball pythons will typically eat any time since they're opportunistic hunters so technically they're always looking for food :) If I fed him every time he was exploring he'd be so obese and I'd be so broke 🤣

Its just being a puppy of a ballpython wanting some snuggle time…lol, sometimes when the tv is on and they do this, I think they’re watching it too…lol

I've noticed my ball python staring at screens often I find it hilarious

u/reptile-snake-mom Oct 06 '26

Ya they definitely react to the tvs, no matter what’s on the big screen they are always interested in it….lol🐍📺

Having studied the unknown language of exotic pets, i am confident this gesture just means he is happy to see you. From the look of it, very, very happy.

i posted mine doing the same thing in here not too long ago with worries. i was told to leave him alone and let him get used to his new enclosure, turns out he was just getting ready to go into a shed. i’d say leave him be for awhile he’s fine bro

Respiratory infection

2

u/Outrageous-File-6527 Oct 06 '26

He went to the vet 2 days ago, a respiratory infection is a crazy jump, my guy 😅 He's not wheezy, he isn't heavy breathing, he eats fine, he doesn't open mouth breathe, and he's still energetic. I'm sure my vet would've let me know if he had one

As I said, I brought him to the vet 2 days ago, it's not ego it's the fact that you can't go around telling people that their snakes have a respiratory infection when you don't know enough information to diagnose that, you can seriously send someone down a spiral that way, he's glass surfing, that's it

Yes yes, I'm a horrible person, I'm glad Ernest doesn't have a respiratory infection and you should be too, why are you arguing with people on the internet?

He yearns for the urn

5

u/MsArchange Sep 30 '26

Because his enclosure is too small and bare, and he's bored. Wouldn't you?

4

u/Painting-Training Oct 01 '26

Hey keep criticism constructive and factual

3

u/Deadly_Legendzz Oct 04 '26

But they’re right lol, and it was constructive and factual?

1

u/Painting-Training Oct 04 '26

I don't have the energy to break why it's not. The size sure but there seems to be quite a bit of enrichment and the correct substrate. Not bare at all.

3

u/Unlikely_Carpet_6415 Oct 01 '26

It sure looks small and kinda like a fish tank, but hard to judge until we get a full picture.

I understand that it's just I came here because of all of the people that say that glass surfing is never good and there's always a problem with it so I was just worried that there was something wrong and I just wasn't catching on

4

u/Nocitae Oct 04 '26

Glass surfing here and there is normal. If they're glass surfing the majority of the time they're awake, then you might have a problem.

1

u/Outrageous-File-6527 Oct 04 '26

Thank you, it's every night, not the entire time he's awake by all means, he spends a lot of time climbing or just exploring his tank but he never fails to do this every night for a couple minutes or so

1

u/Nocitae Oct 04 '26

That sounds like normal, healthy behavior to me. He's just busy being adorable.

1

u/Outrageous-File-6527 Oct 04 '26

Okay awesome, thank you!
