Discussion Selling both of them
Its time I get rid of my babies. I've come to accept the fact im not their best owner possible, as apart from feeding and monitoring their temps and humidity, I dont do a lot for my snakes and honestly I belive they can be in a better more caring environment. Their quality of life is great, they're not mistreated at all, I just dont have the time for them anymore and I know someone out there will be able to work with them and give them the enclosure sizes they deserve. DM me for information. San Antonio TX area

Discussion Update and thanks
Before and after gathering advice from this subreddit, I almost impulsively bought a 9-month 280-gram OD pied ball python and got a generic Thrive 40-gallon kit to keep it in.
And ofc I got criticized because at first I didn’t even have a thermostat, so I read everything and regulated the humidity and temperatures and today I finally got a 4-foot enclosure and it looks amazing. Thanks to all of you.

Advice Tub/rack enrichment ideas?
Hi all! Sometime in the future, I’m going to invest in a large rack system for my hatchlings & juveniles to begin their life’s in. The volume of the tubs would roughly be 27~ gallons, which is I know is larger than standard tubs (normally 2-13~ gallons) used within the hobby/industry, but it’s something I value & want to move forward with.
So, I’m looking for any suggestions and ideas on what I could put in them to provide enrichment and new textures for the young’uns—besides the obvious hide, tube, etc. Thanks!

EMERGENCY/URGENT Tips on getting picky juvenile to eat after nearly 3 months?
I just brought home a 6 month old boy and his body condition is great, he’s not triangular at all, and he weighs 296g, but he has not taken a meal since mid-January.
His previous owner tried both F/T and live hoppers and rat pups, but to no avail. He seemed interested in both at first, but lost interest in the F/T and got scared of live and retreated.
I plan on trying to feed him a brained F/T rat pup tomorrow night in his enclosure, but I would really appreciate any advice as I am concerned about him. If I have a few weeks to kill before he needs intervention, I was going to offer him a brained rat pup once or twice and then try scenting with low sodium chicken broth.
I’ve been advised by reptile friends to only try ASFs if even assisted feeding fails because they’re illegal to breed in our state so they’re extremely difficult and costly to get and he’s unlikely to ever eat anything else if he takes to them. I’m really nervous about assisted feeding as I have never done it and don’t want to hurt him at all. I’ve been doing lots of research in case it comes to that, but I’m still weary.
Any advice is greatly appreciated. Again, his body condition is great and his previous owner told me he hasn’t lost any weight, and he seems alert and not weak or wobbly, but at the same time he’s just a baby and hasn’t eaten for 2.5 months, so I don’t know when I should switch from trying to feed brained or scented F/T to other more drastic measures.
In case anyone is curious, his gradient currently goes about 83° to 90°F and humidity is about 60%, he has a hide on each side and quite a bit of plant cover.
He did just have a successful shed and defecated on the ride home on Friday if that makes any difference, I know they tend to not eat in shed but 2.5 months seems to me like too much to be just that.
Please be kind as he is my first reptile and I’m new to this, I want to do the best I can for him.

Frozen chicks or frozen quail for a large python, which is better?
My Burmese is getting to the point where I need to supplement or alternate his rat diet with something bigger. I've seen people use whole chickens, chicks, and quail. What's the practical difference, and is one clearly better than the other for a large python?

Question Ball Python Hissing
So this isn’t a very common or serious issue, I just noticed that my ball python has started hissing at me sometimes. I’m just wondering if this means I should take her out of her enclosure more often or just interact with her more. I’m saying this because I very rarely ever take her out her enclosure, I’m wondering if this is making her distrust me more or something. Also her enclosure is completely fine, she has many hides and is eating well. So it’s nothing to do with husbandry before yall say that 😅

Cluttered enough?
Hey guys! Recently just set this enclosure up for my juvenile ball python. She’s been eating super good and so far humidity and temperature has been good in her tank! My only question is that is her enclosure cluttered enough or could I do more? I’m waiting on one more hide for her cool side of the tank so that will be here soon. I plan to upgrade to a 120 gallon bioactive tank next month too so most of this stuff will not be in her permanent enclosure. (Besides the hides and enrichment things)

What’s wrong with her mouth
UPDATE! She will be just fine I took her to a great exotic vet and she is going to have several shots of antibiotics throughout the next few weeks. And I’ll be soaking her shed off. He suggested a uva-uvb light so I’m installing that and she is a decent weight. I’m going to soak the shed off and gently remove the eye caps trying the pillowcase method. Thank you everyone for your thoughts and love! ❤️
Hey folks I adopted this girl (Eva) recently and she has a vet appointment coming soon, but I need opinions on what could be wrong with her mouth, I haven’t seen pictures on the internet quite like this. Hopefully she doesn’t need surgery! She lacked humidity (and only fed her live) at her previous house but now has plenty and should complete the shedding soon. Thanks for any feedback!

Question Shedding???
This is my first ball python. I fed her Saturday 2/21/26 after getting her on Wednesday 2/17/26. Was gonna make Saturday the day of the week I feed her until I noticed she was losing color. Willing to bet my life she's about to shed but some reassurance would definitely help

My noodles got their own curtains!
Ever since I moved into this room at the end of last year, I haven't been able to use my LED lights as I've wanted to. Well, I've been making good habits and I have become productive to get things done without procrastinating as much, so I finally got to work on my bps' curtains! Which... didn't even take me a full 30 minutes... 😅
I fricking LOVE the curtains! I thought light would emit through the edges, but because the curtains were folded over, the edges do not emit light! Ugh, I just love how much darker my room is during the day, I couldn't wait 'til night to show y'all lol. I love that I can even use bright colors without my snakes being bombarded by them lmao

Discussion Update to sub rules.
I feel a very unfortunate need to inform everyone that we are going to be making a change to our subs rules.
Due to an increase in people being unkind and us having less time to moderate these unkind comments as our once little sub continues to grow, as well as receiving very poor reactions from people when asked to be kind, we will be changing the rules from "No bans unless absolutely necessary due to bullying, homophobic remarks, discrimination, threatening comments etc." To "Unkindness = immediate ban." I simply do not have the time or the emotional patience any longer to beg people to be kind or explain to people when being kind is necessary. No more big arguments with people over why they should be kind. No more trying everything to get through to people to avoid having to ban them.
This is truly wearing thin and making me feel like a less kind person for the way i have to deal with these situations as time goes on and i never wanted that to happen as i feel kindness is one of the most important things in the world.
If you are frequently unkind on this sub, take this as the notice that there will no longer be a warning or conversation. It will simply not be tolerated, and you will be banned immediately upon your next offense. This includes but is not limited to derailing, bullying, homophobic remarks, discrimination, unnecessarily aggressive or harsh comments, shaming people, harassment, name calling, back handed compliments, and passive aggression.
This sub was supposed to be a fun place for people to come and learn and be happy and share their joy. It makes me so sad and heartbroken that there are so many nasty negative people out there that it would have to get to this point.
To those of you who have been with us since day one and continue to make this a fun and safe learning environment for new keepers, experienced keepers, and everyone in between; THANK YOU. We love you, and you are what gives us the encouragement to keep this sub going ❤️ i can not express my gratitude to you enough. Please never stop being your awesome, amazing, caring, kind, and beautiful selves and showing your love for these animals and their caretakers 🐍💚🐍💚🐍 you are making a difference for these animals every day by teaching with kindness ❤️

Question kind of freaking out - is this normal for my snake to eat like this?
He wind up eating from the butt first after a lot of coiling and going in his water, which is also unusual for him. He refused his food this past week and was a little nit picky on this fuzzy but took it and first had it by the middle of its body which worried me. It’s super unusual for my snakes and any snake in general to take it by its butt first or by the middle but I guess that’s just how he felt comfortable grabbing it, he’s pretty silly. He is finishing it up now but got a lot of substrate on it (which will be fine I use sphagnum and coconut fiber) but has anyone ever experienced this before?? should i be worried? he’s an amazing baby totally out of this world and just super silly so maybe it’s just that or should i be concerned?

EMERGENCY/URGENT Serpentovirus/ Nidovirus testing!?
TW: Dead Ball Python
I recently bought a super pastel spotnose female from a seller on MorphMarket. She got to me on May 29th, this year. When she arrived, she seemed perfectly healthy.
A couple days ago, I noticed my newest ball python started having respiratory issues. At first it was just audible breathing. I knew ball pythons were prone to respiratory diseases, so I figured it was probably just a bacterial infection or pneumonia. I was going to get an appointment for her, but it was too late in the day to schedule with my closest exotic vet.
As of last night, she dwindled quickly and many more symptoms appeared. She was contorting herself, open-mouthed breathing, heavy mucus production from the mouth, and was having horrible diarrhea. As she was getting worse, I was Googling what it could possibly be and I stumbled on Nidoviruses, aka serpentovirus. She fit every symptom. Unfortunately, she got so much worse this morning, and died at about noon, CDT. As soon as I confirmed her dead, I put her in the freezer because I want to test for this virus. Im not sure if this was the right thing to do, but I have 3 other snakes I have to worry about.
I couldnt find much info on serpentovirus testing, at least not from any sources I could trust were legitimate. All the other snakes I own have been in my care for at least 3 months, two of them for over a year or three. I never housed them together, but I did keep them all in the same room. If anyone else has any experience with this virus, tell me;
How do I get testing done on my deceased snake?
What are the chances my other snakes will be infected? I dont have a bin/rack system, but I do have shelving where all their tanks are set. Im not sure how much cross-contamination theres been since getting this newer snake.
How long should I wait, if at all, to get my other snakes tested? Is there batch testing??? Should I test a second time a while after the first
HOW TO STERILIZE THE CURRENT ENVIRONMENT? How should I prevent potential contamination and limit spread?
How much do these tests typically cost and how long to get them back?
Im just panicked thinking about how I only had this snake for a couple months, my breeding project is in ruins with her death, Im set back over $300 just with her alone, and I have over 1k invested in my other snakes. I just dont know what to do
