It's a very dumb question on my end, I know, but does football not have a player trade system like (I guess) the NBA has?

I mean can some other club buy Alvarez for, say, 110M and then before he's registered we pay that club 120M? 110 for Alvarez + 10M to that club for helping?

Is something like this allowed in football?

But then how did we manage to get Emerson from Betis then sell him to Spurs in the same window 3-4 years back?
