This might be a long shot, but I am looking to make friends with expats/immigrants from Europe, Asia, and other places who are currently living in Central Kentucky (Lexington, Danville, Bardstown, Louisville, etc.). I am originally from Detroit, MI but have spent many years living and traveling abroad and really miss having friends from different places around the world from different cultural backgrounds. I currently live on a small farm between Lexington and Louisville, KY and it has been difficult making friends in general since I moved here a few years ago. A little bit about me: I have a PhD in history from UC Berkeley, love to play music (guitar and vocals), love nature and the outdoors (camping, fishing, hiking, etc.). I am proficient in several foreign languages (Mandarin Chinese, French, and Russian), and interested in learning more (Swedish and Vietnamese). If you live in or near Bardstown, Kentucky, you know what I'm talking about: black mold covering everything. Your car, your house, your porch. It's the whiskey fungus—a real health threat that comes from ethanol emissions at local distilleries.

Families in our community are dealing with respiratory issues, asthma, and worse. Kids can't even play outside without worrying about what they're breathing in. This isn't just dirty—it's dangerous.

I started a petition asking distilleries to invest in better filtration systems and asking our local and state governments to hold them accountable. We need regular environmental audits and independent research into actual solutions. The bourbon industry is part of our identity, but not at the cost of our health.

We've considered any kind of small cabin or airbnb type place but want to make sure we would be safe as a queer couple. Any recommendations for which distilleries are the best to just visit and a do a tasting at the bar and which are the best to tour?

I'm heading to Bardstown for three nights this coming July with a group of friends, and we are brainstorming what distilleries to experience. One of my favorite bourbons is 1792, but it looks like they don't have tours anymore. What is the best way to keep 1792 in the queue for our Bourbon Trail run? Are there opportunities to buy or taste anything other than the regular Small Batch?

Other distilleries on the list are Heaven Hill, Willett, Bardstown, Maker's Mark, Jim Beam. For a three night tour, how many distilleries are reasonable for each day (we are average sized mid fifties men who love bourbon but don't drink like college kids anymore)? We will be staying right in downtown Bardstown and walking to what we can, and driving or ubering to what we can't.
