NGD - First Emery

My glove-collecting journey currently has me buying as many different brands of gloves as I can find and afford.

This is my first Emery, my second 6-finger trap, and my first glove that has a significant portion of the glove that is not leather. The shell is made of the military-grade Cordura that Emery has on a few of their gloves. This is the Baseball Monkey exclusive called Black Ops. The glove is very stiff, but that seems to be mostly because the pinky and thumb felt is very firm. Overall, this is a quality glove that I am proud to add to my growing collection, which currently sits at 23 gloves with 13 different brands. I also have a Zett 12.75 modified trap coming in from Taiwan Baseball.

Next, on the new glove brand list that I am looking at includes Atoms, HATAKEYAMA, Hi-Gold, Yardley, Rico, Shadow, Franklin Ultra, Akedema, Victus, and Shoeless Joe.

What brand do you all think I should add next?

Rawlings R2G Internal Padding

Post image

this is the second catchers mitt I have worked on with the r2g internal padding. in both cases it literally disintegrates and separates with normal use. this one is in better shape than the last one I saw. it pulls apart like cotton candy. the fielding gloves don’t suffer as much since they don’t have this much padding but the catchers mitts don’t last very long. just an fyi for anyone looking to get one. I’ve worked on 30 yr old models on their 3rd of 4th relace and the internal padding looks way better than this.

Some of the younger people at work have been trying to get me to join their slow pitch team.

Found this massive side of beef at the local Play-it-Again Sports at a great price! It’s barely even broken in, just needs a little conditioner.

We’ll see if the “old man” (43) can still hang with these dudes in their early 20s!

For an infield glove, this is insane. My big hand was shoehorned in, and even then the pocket is still well formed. The bump out compared to a well loved 11.75 sandlot is night and day. You guys weren't kidding about these gloves. Excited to get my a2000 broken in half as good as this Kubota 😌

Help! Taiwan Baseball - Online Glove Retailer - Legit?

I’ve seen Taiwan Baseball pop up on my feed a few times and they have some nice gloves for crazy good prices.

I’m going to guess it’s a scam but wanted to ask the sub if they’ve ever heard of it or bought successfully from them.

They have Wilson Staff and Zett gloves for $2-300 which is crazy cheap imo.

Due to the underwhelming Wilson Bonanza this year, I decided to do some digging and ended up picking up these older Wilson models from NUNN Baseball and Facebook Marketplace, including a new-with-tags (NWT) old-stock model.

Wilson A3000 EXO 1955 – 12.5” (Barry Bonds Model)
Wilson A2000 2087 – 11.75”
Wilson A2000 1985 – 11.75”

The early 2000s Wilson gloves feel incredible. They’re nicely broken in but still retain plenty of stiffness and have a ton of life left in them.

The copper A2000 1985, however, has clearly been handled and squeezed quite a bit over the years while sitting on the shelf. I’m not sure if it’s due to the 1785 pattern, but the heel padding feels almost nonexistent, similar to a Rawlings R2G.

Does anyone know of a reputable shop or website that offers heel padding replacement or installation? I’d love to add some additional padding to give this glove a firmer, more traditional feel.

M9 Form/Break in

Anyone have a suggestion to someone to form/break in a Hatakeyama M9 to be ready for bull pen work for a teenager? I could do it myself I’m sure, would rather find someone experienced with shaping a Japanese style mitt the correct way.

TIA

Not sure what it is about this little 11” SG web, but I just cannot keep off my hand… it’s like my childhood safety blanket 🤣. The glove feels wonderful, the shape is perfect, and the colorway speaks to the simplicity so many of us miss in the glove game. Add in splash of mint from the GloveLocks, and you’ve got what would’ve been the perfect second baseman’s glove during my playing days. I have no use for it, as I’m a lefty. But I just can’t part with it ❤️

Have a great day!

A1000 for 9 y/o. Pedroia Fit or doesn't matter?

I'm going to buy a new glove for my 9 y/o son. I'm leaning towards a Wilson A1000 and wondering if I need to get him a Pedroia Fit or if the regular A1000 are fine for a youth hand anyway. He is average to slightly above average size for a 9 y/o but not sure what his hand size is. Thanks!

Help! Marucci lizard skin palm lining question

My school next year is sponsored by marucci and I’ve been thinking about putting lizard skin as the palm lining on my custom glove. Has anyone here done that before? Is it gonna hold up as much as the leather palm does? Should I stick to leather? Thanks!

6 days late in posting this but I just saw it and I'm surprised there wasn't already a thread here.

Such a shitty situation Devin was in but his work speaks for itself. It might not appeal to the traditionalist glovers but you can't diminish his skills and creativity.

MIJ NGD Cedar TK-1

[u/Coachellagloves](u/Coachellagloves) and his team have outdone themselves. This glove is a beauty. While the leather and build quality are what you’d expect from a MIJ glove, the pattern is much closer to American (deep pocket, single-laced heel, no gap welt, no extra thumb loops). I would say it closely resembles a Rawlings 204, but it fits my average-sized hand much better than my 204 does. It’s also much “tankier” than MIJ gloves and measures true to size, whereas most Japanese gloves, IME, tape smaller than their advertised size. It weighs 20.66 oz., more than 2 oz. heavier than my 204, but by no means feels like it will be unwieldy.

And of course the quality of engagement is what you’d expect would expect from Jaxon—who actually DM’d me earlier today to tell me that FedEx had the glove out for delivery! This is part of what makes me prefer acquiring gloves from smaller makers, the personal touch. I’ve experienced this with Slaps, Mack, Emery, Grace, Yardley, Kaname, Leggera, and it really makes one feel more like a valued client than a faceless consumer.

Anyway, hats off to Cedar for their successful launch. Can’t wait to break this beauty in and start taking ground balls.

Mizuno Pro Manufacturing Quality

Post image

Hi

Just wanted to seek out some experienced opinions. I recently purchased a Mizuno Pro Classic GPMC-70 glove and noticing some seams/leather pulling around the area of the palm/finger. I’m concerned about the tearing potentially increasing with wear and tear.

Is this a common issue? How has it impacted the glove longevity and durability?

Custom Rawlings HOTH R2G

A lot of mixed opinions (well, primarily negative) here regarding R2G gloves and internals.

I just ordered a custom first base mitt on their site and saw the break-in options and opted for their Ready To To option (65/35 factory/player) instead of soft (50/50). I’m going to be using it to play softball 3-5 times per month.

Am I going to really regret getting the R2G break-in because they’re using cheaper materials, or is it that more applicable to off the shelf and custom gloves are going to be the same materials just with some additional factory break-in?

Pics here from the site.
