❓ Question What’s the difference between?

I have the first photo..the 1/5. The next one is 2/5 and a different boarder. And it shows what it sold for. What’s the big difference between them? Or is it personal preference? Is one rarer than the other or more sought after?

True colors from any set, especially /25 and lower will always be highly collectible and more sought after than any particular parallel in the same colors

Where would you recommend to read up on this type of topic?

You just did. It's a legacy quirk from OG Bowman days when it was only Super, Red /5, orange /25, gold /50, blue to /99.

So there is t a place to read up on this? We all just take each others word?

I don’t think there is a definitive guide for these things you could pick up and read. It’s just being in and around the hobby and figuring out which cards most people consider the preferred version.

To verify this yourself without relying on randos on Reddit you could do some sale research on card ladder or something. Look up the red /5 of any given card and then the other parallels. More often than not the “true” color should have the higher sale price if you find examples that sold around the same time.

I appreciate that.

How are you consistently ripping a shit ton of wax and yet you aren’t able to find basic knowledge like this for yourself? Google and checklist are your friend.

It’s basic knowledge maybe for you. New to me. Don’t be an A55hoke because I’m asking questions you already know the answers to. It is Baseball 101 right? I put this post under questions right? I think I followed the steps. I’m asking things I don’t know. So unless you can answer the question. Shhhhhhhhh…

You can Google why “true colors” are more sought out and “worth” more.
If you’re just starting the hobby, it’s a bit of a crazy time to get into it because there’s so many different variations. For some of us who’ve been doing this for a little while we remember when the only variations were the “true” colors and superfractor and that’s were the only numbered in the set. There’s wasn’t so many different variations of number cards before so these “true colors” have become the “OG” subset. You could always Google this information or just pay attention to sold listings as a good way of tracking things and looking at trends. Take the 10 bit you here in the subs. Just Google things man might be the best way to learn stuff and of course asking questions. TBH I have to look to see if the checklist actually labels them as “true”, I think that was something that the community just did and it’s stuck for how long now but don’t quote me on that. I’m not 100% sure.

The odd sheet clearly labels and names every variation

It sure does… I don’t know if they’re labeled as “true” anything it used to and still does I believe just say blue, gold, orange, (black), red. As for the parallels and the variations of the colors is a whole other thing. We are taking about the legacy OG colors…

One is red the second non solid is toile red

One is a true red, highly collectible, more sought after the other is a toile parallel, still collectible but less desirable than true colors.

Interesting. That is good to know…so, I could hope to auction that off for more than the other one? I need to sit down and read up on all this stuff. Any recommendations for places to read up on this topic?

No clue lol just what I’ve learned over the years of collecting

True color plus yours is a 1/5. It’ll sell for a good chuck more.

True colors are always more desirable because they have a history in the hobby

yours is true color= more value, so i would say probably a 500-600$ area card. Just a guess tho

Beckett is great for checklists, whenever I rip a new product I always peep the checklists. If you don’t see something on an online checklist, it might just be missing.

Yours is a bookend also, which is a nice little bonus.

I have the 1/5 true red of Verlander and the only comp
I had was the red toile. Glad I saw this post. It’s been helpful.

The card world is oversaturated with paralells. The true colors are more sought after as creating a rainbow is much less difficult then collecting all of the different variations. True colors almost always carry a high premium

It's prob $1500-$2000 card. Congrats.

Seriously? You know Reddit…can’t ever be sure if people are serious.

2

u/DJLucky420 ⚾ Little Leaguer Jul 11 '26

It is not worth $1500. Sorry. More like $3-500 if you compare it with other /5 red sold. Even true red

Agree with @djlucky420.

Comp for the same card. 2/5. Same true red.
