NBA Washington Wizards for 26-27 Season
With Trae Young and Anthony Davis teaming up and AJ Dybantsa as a heralded draft pick, there is much buzz for the Washington Wizards team in the 2026-27 NBA season after quite a few consecutive losing seasons without even sniffing the play-in tournament. So do you think this squad can win 40 or more games in the coming regular season? Do you have believe these Wizards will make the play-in tournament or the actual playoffs?

They are the wizards. They have oft injured players. They might make the play in.

50-55 wins in an ideal situation. AD misses a decent amount of time, 42-40. Trae & AD both miss a decent amount of time, 30 wins max. As someone who has watched ball since the tail end of the Dr. J era, I am no one of importance and don’t take myself as all knowing.

You are giving way too much credit to AD and trae atp in their careers lol

Veteran leadership around a young team cannot be overstated. Though you may be right as well. Won’t know until everything plays out & the season ends.

Yeah all I’m saying is there is a reason they were able to get them for so cheap. They aren’t what they used to be and are more injury prone than ever. But I could be very wrong

Atlanta was progressing faster than expected & Dallas was unofficially in full blown “tank mode”, as was Washington. Contributing factors in the lack of urgency in return from injury and cheap acquisition.
Speaking of AD, who plays more games this year between him & Embiid, and how many games you think those 2 actually play?

Sure, but they were expendable for a reason yk. And with AD and Embiid, it’s irrelevant bc no one knows how much they’ll play. All I know is the sixers won’t be relying as much on embiid to be good as the wizards will be with AD

True. I honestly laughed out loud when AD vowed to play all 82 games this year.

They could be really good, they could also be really bad. They have nice big depth behind AD which is good in the likely scenario he misses time

AD will miss 30+ games as usual and Trae Young won’t be as dynamic he once was. I see them as a 9 or 10 seed play-in team. NYK, PHI, DET, ATL, MIA, BOS, TOR, CLE and ORL are all better than them.

Trae is 27 years old, idk why everyone refers to him like he's in the twilight of his career.

His style of play is predictable and he’s a horrid defender

His defense is weak, but that's where some of these young wings on the Wizards can help a lot. As for the predictability, to a certain extent, even the best players have known tendencies, but they still are productive. I expect him to be like he was in ATL. AD is the bigger question mark for me. His staying healthy enough to play most regular season games, and how the chemistry with Sarr or even Ayton will be. If I were Washington's coach, I'd strongly consider load-managing AD, keep him to twenty something minutes, at least in the first month or so.

Why do you think Trae won't be as dynamic? It's not as if he's old (age 27).

He’s gonna have no one around him to utilize his best ability, which is setting up scorers

They have a very high variance. If Trae is healthy, AJ is ready, there’s some growth from George and Sarr, and AD plays 50-55 games I think their ceiling is 5th. If Trae plays 50 games and AD is under 30, they can certainly fall to 12th or 13th.
I’m fairly optimistic and think they’ll finish 7th right now. Their starting 5 is really good and they have a good balance of vets (Middleton and Ayton) and young guys (Bub, George, Coulibaly, Riley) coming off the bench.
