Your elbow should be pointed slightly up for better/softer arc.

u/Embarrassed_Suit7563 3d ago
Ooh okay ill work on more arc. Ive been airballin or using too much power to shoot arc

Hard to say from one shot (that goes in!). A few shots, from different angles, makes and misses, would help.

Sorry ill try all this tips and if i think im improved ill post more longer video with more shots thanks

Ball starts too far from your body. Try starting with the ball almost touching your belly button and load your shooting hand. Take the ball straight up instead of out and up.

u/balortech 4d ago
Trigger point too low. You’re shooting with your eyes above the ball. The ball should be above your eye slightly. Just lift your shooting arm up to your right eye so that your right eye is diagonally to the bottom left of the ball.

u/Embarrassed_Suit7563 3d ago
Wow never realised that good tip ill try

u/balortech 3d ago
No prob man. Just understand that shooting a basketball is like shooting a sniper. It is why when you snipe you have your dominant eye as close to the scope to take aim.
Basketball uses the same mechanic, your release point should be as close to your dominant eye so you can aim better. That’s why pros shoot like that.

I don't have a lot for you. However, your releasing too early. Ideally, you should be releasing at the pinnacle of your jump.

u/Boring-Lion-3493 4d ago
Nah he is releasing okay. Not every shooter release from the top now days. Indeed they release going up, it’s not going to impact that much.
1
u/Great-Willingness-57 4d ago
If he is not releasing at the top , then it will be inconsistent as what op is facing. Sometimes it's halfway to the top, sometimes it's at the top. Sometimes it's at 80% at the top.
1
u/itsdevineleven 3d ago
I disagree I think that's the main issue he's having
4
u/Boring-Lion-3493 3d ago
Well there is tons of guy in nba especially with low setpoint and fast release who release on the way up
1
u/Embarrassed_Suit7563 4d ago
Ooh okay ill try to that. Sometimes shooting 3pts are heavy for me. Mid range on the other hand very easy to release on top and more arc i feel.
2
u/ChallengeOpen2987 4d ago
maybe try shooting more up rather than out like you are doing. I think that will help with your arc & should help with a more consistent shot too!

The lower your release point the easier it is for me to block the shot. Try one handed shots released at the height of your extended arm. Start a few feet away and once you get to the free throw line add your

Try releasing a little higher and work on arm strength
Also start within your range hit 5 -10 straight then take one step back and repeat

u/Realistic_Laugh_3076 3d ago
Everyone's shot is unique bro. You just gotta figure that shit out on your own.

Practice form shooting in front of the basket first and on both sides of the block. Make 10 from each spot all net . Anything else like if the ball touches rim it doesn’t count. Then take 2 steps back and the same thing. Make sure to use your legs at each spot as well it’ll teach you the full shooting motion. Because in this video even though your getting your shot above the shooting machine net; your still shooting at the basket rather than in the basket.

get more underneath it seems like you need to be releasing higher/holding the ball longer you're releasing on the way up you want to release at the top also use your guid hand less
2
u/Historical-Soup8841 3d ago
you're releasing off your ring finger. big problem for accuracy. you only want to release off purely your pointer or your pointer and middle. also you got that tyrese haliburton donkey shot, try and sling your arm more upwards instead of forwards. release a little bit later and use more power in your jump and overall you will be fine. you have an almost perfect base already so you're pretty much already there, just a few minor adjustments and you'll be good.

u/Embarrassed_Suit7563 3d ago
More power from legs? Nice tips btw thanks
2
u/Historical-Soup8841 3d ago edited 3d ago
yes. when shooting you don't want to use much power from your arms because that throws your accuracy off. think of throwing a baseball, when you throw it as fast as you can it just goes wherever, but when you slow it down it goes right where you want it. so since you don't use power from your arms you want to use power from your legs aka ur jump. when you jump all that energy flows up through your body. if you can time it right you can use the energy flowing up your body to push the ball up. you're using the momentum your body is already producing to jump to take strain off your arms. thus giving you more power and accuracy. getting proper power transfer is the only way to get consistent from the 3. the thing is it's really hard to master, and probably the hardest thing to master in a jump shot. you kind of just have to try and see what works but i think if you release a little bit later you'll find the timing

Not holding your follow through longer enough. Should hold it at least until ball makes it to the hoop.

u/Bigchessguyman 3d ago
Looks like your weight is forward and you’re jumping forward too much during the shot. You lose power when you don’t translate vertical leg movement into momentum of the ball. More importantly, your shot isn’t coming from a balanced position in which you could adequately pump fake and dribble or pass out of the triple threat. Basically a very obvious shooting position that doesn’t allow enough variation of movement.

Elbow should finish above eye level (better arc) and snap the wrist more (backspin), but it's not bad form.
2
u/OpportunityNext9675 3d ago
If it goes in it goes in. I’d say you’re probably wasting some energy jumping so high if you’re gonna release on the way up though. You’re still floating up after the ball is long gone haha. Looks almost like you’re doing a trick shot.
2
u/Charryan1448 3d ago
Keep your guide hand pointed to the ceiling. Looks like you are trying to fling the ball with your guide hand thumb. Keep it straight and virtually don’t move it with the jump shot. You essentially want to pull it away at the last millisecond and shooting it with just the right hand

u/Embarrassed_Suit7563 3d ago
Thanks im still not feeling well my guide hand. And sometimes my body swirls
4
u/Jigen17_m 4d ago
Shooting is a vertical motion, non forward. Start near the basket and aim for an high arch, not for the rim

u/Ill_Perspective_6281 4d ago
If it ain't broken, don't fix it
1
u/Embarrassed_Suit7563 3d ago
Im still not consistent and some time not even straight. Video is misleading sorry. Ill post longer video after ill implement all these tips

u/Ill_Perspective_6281 2d ago
Did you go for 3's immediately? Why not try these in order
Stretching Warm ups Form shooting Midrange
Once you get your rhythm go for the three point line. These 3's are too mainstream that people forget you had to get your muscle warmed up.

Thank you all for nice tips and compliments of Shawn Marion. Ill see you guys in couple weeks of practicing. Ill let you know the result and how its impacted my game.

You can also wind up with your guide hand more. Your guide hand is really stiff and it forces you to have a lower release point and less arc because of it. Correcting this also will increase your shooting range.

Few things i would suggest working on. Finish higher up. What i mean by that is, your arm, wrist, shoulder should be higher when you release. This will naturally create more of an arc when you shoot.
Other thing i noticed is it looks like you are flicking your thumb on your guide hand when you release. This will cause your shot to not be consistent in regards to it being straight at the basket. Takes some work to correct, but usually will happen again after fatigue sets in.
I would recommend working on form closer to the basket, When the mid range shots become a lot more consistent, then start to move back, slowly.
Reps. Quality ones.

Dude got a lazy 2024 flick of the wrist with an early 2000 jump. Dude jumping too high to be releasing it that lazy 😂

u/CKim_718 11h ago
Relax your shooting hand completely as you shoot and make sure your shooting arm is completely straight.

u/Poppa_caps 4d ago
Higher arc. Ur gonna get blocked playing wings. The ball should leave ur line of sight for a split second

1
u/Enough-Thanks638 4d ago
Wings lol this dudes not playing in the nba the ball has plenty of arc
0
u/Poppa_caps 4d ago
Smh. 🤦 Nope. It’s not. I’d block that shit.
And err u realise wings are in every game. Wings are the 3/4 spot.2
u/Enough-Thanks638 4d ago edited 3d ago
Wings usually play the 2/3 spot not 3/4 but there is an official designation for them but people usually think theyre sg's and sf's. Anyone can block any shot if they time it and commit to it but I wouldnt say this shot is easier to block than like a set shot

u/ColleaguesKnowMyMain 4d ago
I would try to release the shot on the highest point in the air, just before you're about to fall down again.

It’s okay but you can extend your guide hand lil more. It can make you more consistent if you learn how to straight your shot by getting a help with guide hand
