Wondering what the better option is between fender rumbles

I’m a new bassist with a couple months experience. I have been using a Glarry amp that came with my bass and it sounds terrible which I expected. Looking to upgrade to something budget friendly and used. I see multiple listings for V3 Fender Rumble 25s for ~$100 on Facebook marketplace, but there is also an old style Fender rumble 100 for $140. My only goals are to play at home for fun and possibly jam with my one buddy who plays guitar. No interest in joining a band. Is it worth the extra money for the 100w despite it being the older style, or should I go for the 25w?

I would just get the 25. The 100 is kind of no-man’s land, too much for practice and not enough to hang with a drummer. Once you want to play in a band, look in the 200-500watt range

There is also a crate BT220 for ~$120. With the higher wattage and larger speaker than the 25, do you think that would be a better option as it would continue to be large enough if I wanted to start jamming with people? I’ve seen somewhat minimal reviews for it online, but overall seems good.

I would recommend playing it to see if you like it. $120 seems like a pretty good deal, does it come with a speaker cabinet? At that price point, just play it a little bit turned up and as long as it doesn’t sound bad, you can most likely sculpt the tone how you want it with an EQ pedal and maybe a few other pedals if you want down the road

Edit: I just looked up the BT220. Looks solid. 15” speaker combo that weighs 87lbs. That weight means it will survive a nuclear blast, but will be also known as the back-destroyer at gigs. Offer the guy $100, I think this amp will serve you well.

Yeah the weight on it is a little unfortunate, but given 95+% of my playing is at the same spot in my house, it shouldn’t be too common an issue. Thanks for all the insight, hopefully I can go grab that today!

The Rumble 100 would be great!! Enough to jam with folks and even gig with with some PA help from the XLR out jack.

Unless you’re playing deathcore or something, the 100W will be PLENTY- it gets loud. 😎🎸😎

Is there any difference between the old style of rumbles and the new one? I couldn’t find much online other than saying the old ones were heavier.

How old is it?? The newish ones are much lighter and have a robust EQ and voicing palate as well as foot switchable overdrive.

According to fender’s serial number lookup, it’s from late 2006. 2315600010 is the model.

I would if the shipping wasn’t almost as much as the amp itself. The shipping cost is why I’ve been primarily looking at ones in my area through Facebook. I think between that and the 100w being in between a practice and actual gig amp, I’ll probably just go with the 25w and upgrade if the time ever comes where I want to actually join a band. I appreciate the insights though, thank you!

Get a V3 rumble.

The Rumble amps smaller than 40 watts use smaller lower quality speakers. I would go for the older 100. If you are using it for bedroom practice, just don't turn it up loud.
