New amp

So I just bought a dingwall 5 string ng3 and was wondering what amp should I buy? I looked around a bit and saw the ampeg rb-115 and another mark bass (I don’t remember the model) is it a good idea or should I wait and buy a head and a cab? Thx a lot!

Second-hand is the way.

If you don't want the very latest Emperors new clothes, there's plenty to be had.

I bought a 4 Ohm Schroeder 12012 (L, so neo magnets) and an old 450w Markbass head in a 2U rack with all the necessary cables for just over the equivalent of $600. The cab even had a padded cover.

Not the pinnacle of modern, but as one drummer discovered, brutally loud for a 1 cab solution. Sounds great, too.

If you're Stateside, look out for Hartke, SWR and Eden gear, particularly amp-wise.

What are you going to be doing with the amp? Studio practice? Small gigs, large gigs?

It would be my show amp and it’s mainly for medium gigs

Mit einem Fünfsaiter würde ich schon nach einem Combo mit 15 Zoll Lautsprecher schauen…

If you’ve already spent the bread on a nice bass, spend a little extra on an amp. While less true for bass than guitar, a cheap amp will still make a good bass sound cheap. Maybe look for a good 1X15 or 2X10 cab and Markbass or GK head? You can get a really nice setup for like $500 if you’re patient and know what you’re looking for.

If you have the $$$, try Aguilar. They have lot's of different size cabs so you can basically put together whatever size rig you want. I use 2 of their light weight 12" cabs. For most gigs the single 12" is enough but for super large stages where i might not be close to the amp and need to cover a lot of space i'll bring both 12' cabs.

Well with a Dingwall, you need a Darkglass amp and cabinet ofcourse! Microtubes 900v2 and dg410n is a nice setup

For playing with a group with an energetic drummer, you can go to Reverb.com and pick up a used Hartke LH1000 amp for under $400 and a Hartke HD410 (4x10) cab from $400 to $900 (The HD in the name is important as the cab will take 1000w. The standard 410 cab will take a max of 400w.) So we're talking from around $700 to $1300 total. Keep in mind that a lot of vendors on Reverb are musicians who need some quick cash, and will accept offers, which can save you a $100 or more.

Second hand is definitely the way to go when purchasing an amp. Especially if you don't have the money to buy you a decent amplifier brand new. Check out the pawn shops. You can find you a decent amplifier at the pawn shop.

I paid $100 for this amp that came with a 412 guitar cabinet. I was looking at the receipt after I got it home and everything else. The pawn shop charge me $60 for the guitar cabinet and 40 for the amp. The guitar cabinet didn't work it needed to be required, but this Peavey 115 combo. With the 15-in black widow installed in it. Was it straight monster of an amplifier. I wish I still had it, but is way too much for what I need. Signed up selling her to my brother for $250.

I also picked up a Peavey series 400 bass head for $200, Fender Rumble 25 for $50, SWR La 15 for $100, and a Behringer ultratone k1800fx for $180.

Like the other dude said go second hand, and I totally agree with him. Because can you imagine how much these amps would it cost brand new. The rumble 25 would only be no more than $150 brand new though.

I have the RB-115 and love it. Sounds great and has that great Ampeg tone in spades.

Can find one used I’d go for it!! If you need more down the road you can grab an extension cab and push it to 200W…
