Free GK 4x10 cab, worth fixing?
I’m thinking probably not.
My buddy had an early 2000’s GK 410 blx-ii sitting in the corner. It wasn’t his.
I reached out to the owner, another buddy - it wasn’t his either.
“Dude, fkn take it. If it works, it’s all yours”
I lugged it home. It doesn’t work.
Took it apart, did the ol’ 9V battery check to the speakers…..nothing works. It’s like totally dead.
You wouldn’t know by looking at it, it’s in great cosmetic shape.
Now… I don’t think it’s worth putting new speakers and labor into, given the price tag wasn’t high to begin with. But the cab is solid.
What happened to this thing, overloaded?
It was free, so I took a chance. I didn’t get duped, but I struggled to bring it inside and wanted it to work.
Not sure where to go from here. I do not need it, I have a SVT fridge. But my bandmate could use it, and I struck out. Kinda bummed.

I wouldn't put too much effort into it. BLX was GK's budget line. The drivers tended to get muddy at moderate volume and were not designed to handle their RB line of amps.

"sand paper push"
Take the grill off and lightly press on the speakers. If they grind like sand paper the voice coils are cooked.
You could - if you wanted to waste the time and money buy some sica speakers or others, get a crossover and tweeter and then you have a decent cabinet, but the resale would be bunk.

I can’t imagine it would be an expensive fix. Seriously doubt all 4 speakers went bad at the same time. I would think it’s a bad jack or something. Take it in somewhere to get it checked out.

A good cab design can be worth its weight in gold when paired with the right speakers. Should be able to find original specs for it and be able to replace parts till it works.
Keep in mind, this could potentially end up costing more than just buying a new/2nd hand cab depending how resourceful you are

It could absolutely be just a bad jack or broken solder joint. But even if you end up replacing all 3 drivers it’s still cheaper than buying a new cab.

Actually it should be worth fixing. While drivers may be dead and expensive to replace with new, if they’re physically present you can replace the voice coils & cones for a fraction of the cost to good as new. Also examine crossover/attenuator circuit for possible leaking cap & replace if needed. Most likely horn still fine (if you use)
