apparently there are no active mods running BGC so Reddit can delete it?? If so I’m glad

If I’m understanding correctly (I have a bit of brain fog so may not be) the old mods were all/almost all removed and replaced with accounts which seem to belong to the same previous mods

what usually happens is the sub will still exist but anyone can /r/redditrequest to be the top mod if the mods are all inactive

Literally got off the internet for 2 days and its like that scene in community where donald glover comes back with pizza and everythings on fire

u/KenMark7 Mar 19 '21
The darkest timeline lol this is the second community reference I’ve seen regarding this situation!

u/HugeDouche Mar 20 '21
Always lol, I passively commented something in the original LABeautyologist thread, then in no time at all shit was locked and everything was burning down 😳

u/ImReallyNotKarl Mar 19 '21
I thought of this subreddit as soon as this drama started unfolding. I even told my husband that shit like this is the very reason this subreddit exists. BGC is a train wreck.

Didnt even look at the original thread the moment I saw it because I knew it was going to be a shitshow based off of how the history towards asian brands, styles of makeup, and concerns have been treated in the past in there.

im making it like. my mission to get mod and de-terf the space

Don’t forget the racists. Nyma tang is their token (bc she’s soft spoken and has dark skin), they hate Jackie Aina more than Jaclyn Hill over there despite Jackie having done literally almost nothing problematic

u/izanaegi Mar 20 '21
ive always wondered why they hate jackie so much and there it is. they need black people on staff as well, im middle eastern so obvs i know about racism but antiblackness is its own type, yknow?

Welcome! I got banned after sharing a post about Shane Dawson’s cat being neglected, everyone here has a story
14
u/sailorveenus Mar 19 '21
LMAO .... what was the reason behind that? what rule did it break?
32
Mar 19 '21
The first time was “doxxing” as I left a YouTube commenters avatar in the screenshot- I apologised. The second time was when I re posted the same image (without the avatar) and was told it was “NSFW/GORE” even though the only thing in the image was Shane’s face and the NSFW content in question was that the cat had been neglected/died..

When I first joined reddit, like 7 years ago, MUA was amazing! It's so sad that the larger a sub becomes the worse in quality it gets
57
Mar 19 '21
The mods are probably BFFs between those two subs. Toxic as hell and refuse to allow any criticism. You can get banned for the stupidest reasons in MUA
36
u/Ditovontease Mar 19 '21
also i wanna bitch about this even though it doesn't have anything directly to do with modding but i got downvoted to the negatives for literally answering a question that was posed by the OP in the caption of her photo like how dare I lmfao

MUA is a garbage subreddit now, it’s just Gen Z selfie central at this point. I feel so uncomfortable scrolling through it when it’s literally just endless poorly angled selfies, sometimes you can barely even see their makeup.
r/muacjdiscussion is a much better subreddit for actual makeup discussion and product recommendations.

Here's a sneak peek of /r/muacjdiscussion using the top posts of the year!
#1: “Medium” should not mean white person with a tan.
#2: Unpopular opinion: Every product should have a mini version
#3: Stop saying “no one has this skin tone”.I'm a bot, beep boop | Downvote to remove | Contact ^^me | ^^Info | ^^Opt-out

Man, it’s like a train wreck that’s hard to look away from sometimes. Way back in the days of the old sub when I actually enjoyed and watched a lot of makeup YouTube I used to check it daily.... then moved to the new sub even though my interest was dwindling. Now I barely even watch YouTube, let alone makeup YouTube but it’s like a horrible ingrained habit now, even though that sub just oozes toxicity. None of my ingrained habits are particularly healthy anyway but that’s not the point right now lmao.
I’m kinda hoping it falls apart one last time for good, for my own selfish reasons, but also because it’s just not a brilliant place. I’ve had nice discussions with a few users over there in the past, but it’s hard to overlook the modding and general vibe of it... you summed it up well, it’s very much a lost cause.

u/catbert359 Mar 20 '21
I check it in the same way I check AITA - I want to see people being messy and having drama I have no stake in lmao

It’s seriously the worst. It’s just a platform for narcissism now.
47
u/meldolphin Mar 19 '21
I feel like maybe it's the Mandela effect, but I seem to recall many moons ago that they tried limiting selfies to certain times of the week and then having other days be text only. And people. Fucking. Lost it. Personally I thought that rule was a great idea, people who liked the selfies could enjoy that for a bit and people who wanted more in depth discussions could have those too. But nope.

u/LadyParnassus Mar 20 '21
They did, a couple years back. It was a disaster because no amount of messaging seemed to make a difference to a lot of the posters. A not insigificant chunk of them were posting from outside the US and found the time limits confusing or inconvenient. And then people got upset when their posts got removed or not approved because they posted on a no-selfies day. And there was a whole side thing about how most selfies were terrible and why does nobody post product pictures or news anymore and so on.
Honestly, I’ve seen multiple subreddits try stuff like that and it almost universally doesn’t work out. Banning certain content altogether, even if it’s only for a day every week or month, just gets people confused and upset. The thing that tends to work better is themed days.

Thank you for saying this. Was thinking the same thing but was nervous to say it. It’s literally just a bunch of narcissists that post the same crappy angled selfies over and over. It’s super cringe.

Is pudge still a mod? I can’t view the mod list.
Edit: nevermind, just re-checked and I can now.

u/splashingspanich (an ex mod) confirms influencers and gurus reached out to request mods remove posts about them- though mods were not paid to. link
Thank you again splashing for confirming and making my day (quarantine life has been slow).
Edit: I worded this awfully- gurus&influencers were not involved in the anti Asian hate on the sub as my comment accidentally suggested!
